Chapter 54: Who’s the Escort Today?

Once again, I planned to head out of the royal castle today. Since Stevie has a big event with Cass and Lily tonight, she probably won’t be coming as my escort. I’m sure Cass-sensei and Lily are going to give her a thorough "education" about men and women.

Still, she’s not some sheltered young lady. She’s a normal girl living with her brother — she must have picked up plenty of things by now. I doubt she knows nothing.

Anyway, I was wondering who would be my escort today. I really didn’t want it to be a man, so I waited... and who showed up? Marin-sensei!

"Good morning, Master Robby! I’ll be accompanying you today. Please take care of me!"

It had been a while since I last saw Marin-sensei, but she looked exactly the same. It’s still strange to me that someone as soft and fluffy as her is part of the knight order.

"Marin-sensei... you look different somehow!"

"Do I? I don’t think I’ve changed. It’s probably because I’m wearing civilian clothes today. What do you think? Does it suit me?"

Marin-sensei pinched the hem of her skirt and gave a little curtsy. She was wearing a white blouse paired with a light yellow knee-length skirt. It was a huge contrast to her usual knight uniform, giving her a much softer and gentler impression.

"The skirt looks great on you! You look really cute!"

I praised her sincerely. Marin-sensei blushed slightly and said,

"Really? My husband told me this outfit suits me, so I wore it today."

...Husband?

Oooohhhhhh—!! Marin-sensei is already married!? That was fast! What about the wedding!?

"S-Sensei... you’re married? Since when?"

I stumbled over my words a bit.

"Yes! We had a small ceremony at the church with just both of our families, ufufu! Right now the Monster Suppression Unit is away on campaign, and my husband is handling financial support from the rear. He’s incredibly busy and comes home very late every day. We knew this would happen, so we decided to hold the wedding first and get it done quickly."

"I-I see... Congratulations. But that sounds tough if he’s always coming home late."

Even though she said they knew it beforehand, I was still a little shaken. I continued asking,

"So... where do you live with your husband?"

"I’m still working as a knight, so we live in the married quarters inside the castle. It’s near Michelle-san’s room — you know, the maid from the inner palace."

Near that super open-minded Michelle’s room!? I definitely need to check that out sometime! I’m worried whether they’re doing it properly!

When her husband comes home late, does she get so lonely that she comforts herself...? No, no, they’re newlyweds, so that probably hasn’t started yet. Still... I kind of want to know. They wouldn’t be doing advanced stuff like leaving the window open while doing it, right?

And if I ever learn the ’X-ray Vision’ skill, maybe I could see through the curtains... No, no. I shouldn’t be thinking about acquiring such a shameless skill. I don’t want to imagine seeing her husband’s thing clearly either...

"Master Robby? Is something wrong?"

Oops. I had slipped into my fantasy world again. Marin-sensei brought me back.

"Normally I walk around the noble district, then head to the commoner district, eat some snacks, and then wander over to the cathedral. But since you’re with me today, Marin-sensei, I’d love it if you could give me some sword training!"

I asked with completely pure intentions (well, mostly). Marin-sensei made a slightly troubled face.

"Hmm... That might be difficult today. I’m wearing a skirt, so I can’t do any intense movements."

That was the expected answer. But that’s exactly why I wanted to see it! Well, I’ll think about that later. Besides, Marin-sensei isn’t here primarily to train me anyway.

At that moment, Marin-sensei spoke up.

"Master Robby, you’ve grown quite a bit since I last saw you, haven’t you?"

Marin-sensei said something nice! Though I don’t think it’s been more than ten days.

"Have I? I don’t think I’ve grown much taller..."

"Well, your height might not have changed much, but you seem more mature somehow. Your aura feels different. I wonder what happened while we were apart, ufufu."

I walked through the noble district with Marin-sensei. Every time we passed in front of the Anderson Duke’s residence, I felt tense even during the day. It always felt like something was watching from inside the mansion.

"Master Robby? Is something the matter?"

When Marin-sensei asked, I replied,

"Yeah... whenever I walk past this house, I get strangely nervous. Is it just my imagination? It feels like I’m being watched from inside."

Marin-sensei frowned slightly.

"So you can sense it too? There’s definitely a probing presence coming from inside the mansion."

"I knew it. The back of my neck feels prickly."

"That’s something the knight order talks about often too. They’re probably monitoring the outside from within."

"Do they really need to monitor that strictly?"

"Who knows? Someone as lowly as me wouldn’t understand what important nobles are thinking. I try not to think about it."

"I see."

After that, we passed by Countess Rosette’s residence and entered the commoner district. We went into the pudding shop (I still call it that in my head, even though it’s probably officially a sweets shop or fruit parlor) and ate pudding together. Even without Stevie, I noticed quite a few girls staring at me.

Why do young girls stare at guys so much? I don’t think I’m that interesting.

"Master Robby, you’re getting a lot of attention from the girls, ufufufu."

Marin-sensei laughed.

"Am I? I don’t usually get stared at this much."

"Really? You’re quite the pretty boy, so girls your age can’t help but notice you."

"Is that true?"

"It is. If I didn’t have a husband, just sitting here eating pudding with you would make my heart flutter, ufufu."

"Heh... So if your husband wasn’t around, I’d have a chance?"

"A chance? What do you mean?"

Hmm... I guess that didn’t translate well.

"This pudding is delicious, and so is Master Robby. It’s pleasing to both the eyes and the tongue — I’m so happy!"

Marin-sensei said something strangely poetic. When she leaned forward to look at her pudding plate, her cleavage became visible. I unconsciously lifted my hips a little, trying to get a better view.

As we left the shop, the sound of bells rang out from the direction of the royal castle.

Hearing the sound, Marin-sensei’s expression changed completely.

"Master Robby, I’m very sorry. There’s an emergency summons for the knight order. I must return to the castle immediately. I’m afraid we’ll have to end today’s outing here. Please forgive me!"

An emergency summons for the knights...? What happened? We turned around and hurried back. I followed quickly behind Marin-sensei as she walked briskly toward the castle.
