[R18] King's Domination
Chapter 343: After the Griffin Left
Right after the griffin flew away the people of the procession began to wake. As if the griffin had put a sleep magic on them. And everyone was surprised that Her Majesty was already awake. A servant must not wake later than the master. You always wake early, put yourself in order, then meet the master, so the whole lot felt a sense of sin at waking later than Her Majesty?
For that reason Her Majesty being outside caused problems in various ways, so we had her go into the carriage. Of course I did not go in. I climbed onto the driver’s box. Breakfast was distributed at once. Hard bread, hard dried meat, and wine. I and the three Eisleben, and Her Majesty, had wine. The other attendants had water. We have not left the gorge yet so they will save as much as they can, I hear, and I and the three Eisleben received it as a reward for dropping wyverns. Meaning please fight if wyverns come again! expectation fee included.
For me water I put out myself would be fine, but if I am seen putting out water everyone may beg, so I leave it. But would there be an odd person who wants to drink water that comes jonjororin from a fingertip? And even if the attendants say they drink water, there is no well in a place like this, so they draw river water, boil it, cool it, and drink. So as not to break their stomachs. I see.
Then we departed at once. Along the roadside a huge wolf lay dead.
"A Fenrir?"
I asked the driver, and,
"You know well. You know everything, young and learned, you studied well."
I was admired. The driver seemed not to have known. In gaps at work I had packed in net novels, and when an unknown monster appeared I looked it up on the wiki. That result is blooming here now.
Someone who had been listening to my talk with the driver said proud, "that is a Fenrir," and that traveled front and back through the procession. If the name in this world is different it is embarrassing, so I want them to stop.
"Fenrir is the name in the Marie Kingdom. I learned it from a book in the palace storehouse. So in the Mainz Kingdom they may call it something else."
When I told the driver that, the driver said,
"I see! That is amazing! What was that huge four-leg from last night?"
so I answered,
"Griffin."
Then something with a huge head and a huge mouth looking at us from above the gorge. Bipedal, small hands. Seeing that I said without meaning to,
"Mapusaurus."
I cannot wait to show knowledge.
Even so this world has that kind of thing. I want to see it up close no matter what. But there might be more damage than from wyverns. I do not think even a scrap of wanting to fight it.
The driver seemed satisfied with my answer.
"That is called a Mapusaurus. My, instructive. If that kind comes attacking we would get eaten, so I do not want it to draw near."
He said it bland, but you must not raise that kind of flag!
Half worry, half expectation that some monster or magical beast would attack, and in the end we passed the gorge with nothing happening. When we passed the forest where magical beasts live and a vast grassland opened in front, a cheer rose from the procession. Had "Griffin’s Blessing" been on us? I do not need "Wyvern’s Blessing." It would smell.
After we left the gorge I expected a welcome from the next town, but what waited was the enemy.
People hidden in the grassland on the left of the road that cut the middle of the grassland stood all at once and ran this way. The grass is long, a little under a meter, so from the navel down they are hidden in the grass. Luckily we are upwind, so they come receiving an away wind. They drew swords, held spears, and started running, or a short run? No, a fast walk? Only, the footing is a little unreliable. Moving with grass that long would be hard. And maybe these ones had been waiting here all night? If we had gone as planned we should have passed this point yesterday afternoon. We were late and late, and it became the next morning. In that time had these ones been waiting the whole time? Beasts would have visited from the forest, and insects would have gathered. In that black environment, tense, they waited straight through? How pitiful.
They should have attacked quiet, and they ran shouting waaa! I think the quality of enemies is getting worse little by little. How is that.
From behind, arrows flew and hit the running ones in the thigh, in the gut, one after another. Enemies fell face first. I thought there might be bow-holders among the enemies, but there was a fair distance, so even if there were bow-holders they would not reach, or even if they reached they would not hit. A fair wind is blowing, so they may have given up on bows from the start.
The three of the Eisleben tribe, whom I knew without looking back, shot arrows one after another and dropped such people.
"Lord Marie will not fight?"
The driver said it with a nuance of you join too, but,
"No. If I leave it to those three they will drop them all."
"Yes. Something else!"
I want Agnes to hear those words.
Before the attackers drew near the procession the three of the Eisleben tribe had almost wiped them out. They rolled and groaned. Knights ran toward that. Going first to finish them. Trying to take the credit? But everyone knows the enemies cannot move? Knights, stay still a while! Enemies remain, I thought, and looked at the right side of the road. I stood on the driver’s box and looked. In one corner of the grassland on the right of the road the grass was beaten down unnatural. Over a fair range. From an ordinary walker’s view you would not know, but from my view it was clear.
I took bow and arrows from the mana bag.
"There were still some? I will hold the arrows!"
The driver had become a partner who knew the work on his own. In the beaten-down grass there was someone holding a bow. I will aim and shoot! I thought, and from behind three arrows flew and hit that one. All three hit the face. A hit accuracy that feels good! Then the one next to that! I thought, and three hit that one too. Behind that, I thought, and arrows hit first again. I had a halfway feeling of I was going to do it! The enemies who had meant to hide would have thought the same thing. Suddenly everyone stood. Arrows hit there one after another.
"Robbie will not shoot?"
Her Majesty put her head out of the carriage and said.
"They are more excellent than I, so I leave it. I only shoot with raw strength."
"Is that so? Today is a rest."
"In the first place it is better if I have no turn."
Um. What about that familiar tone? Everyone, how do they hear that.
While we said that the knights who had gone to the left grassland came back and dove into the right. The three had already almost suppressed it. Do as you like after that.
