Chapter 159: Going to the Warehouse

  • Next Chapter

Anisee-san, whom the director had nominated, made a face like "Me?" but looked resigned and started to stand up when someone raised their hand.

"Director, shall I go instead?"

It was Christine. As expected — or rather, naturally — when it came to events at the Accounting Bureau, it was this person. I felt like something would happen if I went with her. If I went with Anisee-san, I felt like nothing would happen and we’d just come back.

"MacVee? Yes, that’s fine. In that case, it would help if you could also tidy up the warehouse while you’re there. Since Robin-sama has a Mana Bag, I don’t think strength will be an issue."

The director gave permission easily. She also told them to tidy up. Did that mean they could take their time?

Christine came over with a serious expression.

"Robin-sama, I will guide you. Please follow me."

She started walking, and I followed as instructed. There was no conversation even in the hallway; we just proceeded in silence. I didn’t know where the warehouse was, so I simply followed behind Christine. In this world, women don’t wear pants. Skirts are standard, so Christine was wearing a skirt today as well.

I was very fond of tight pants styles. The clear outline of the ass and even the panty lines show through. Jeans are too thick and not good. Thin, thin pants styles are the best. The way the ass sways with each step can’t be seen in this world. In the countryside, farm wives might wear pants for work, but that doesn’t interest me. I really wish thin fabric pantsuits that aren’t see-through, with short jackets that fully show the round ass, would become popular. Maybe in the Mainz Kingdom? No, probably not.

"Robin-sama, here it is."

Christine used the key she brought to unlock the door and pushed it open with effort. She flipped the sign on the door from "Vacant" to "Occupied." Inside, as expected of a warehouse, it was wide, deep, and had a high ceiling. It smelled of dust and mold. Dust sparkled in the light coming through the windows. I wanted to run an air purifier. Was someone cleaning it?

Shelves were lined up in rows, each with labels like "Finance Department" or "Tax Department." I idly wondered if it was translated as "Department" instead of "Ministry" for convenience. The shelves continued far into the back. They weren’t very tall — about 5 feet, easy for a man to lift boxes onto. There was a mezzanine level starting about halfway into the floor. They probably added it later when the initial storage wasn’t enough.

As I stood there dazed after entering, Christine closed the door. She took my hand and said,

"This way,"

and started walking. It was a lover’s handhold — I think she was conscious of it. She led me deeper and deeper inside. I thought we might go up to the mezzanine, but we didn’t; she took me all the way to the very back. I wondered if it was really this far back when I saw a sign clearly labeled "Accounting Bureau"! The shelves had boxes neatly arranged. This must have been the director’s preference — the boxes were lined up perfectly straight as if measured. Each had a label like "XX Records" affixed in the exact same position. The boxes from other departments we saw on the way were not so neatly arranged and seemed to have labels slapped on wherever. I don’t think the concept of 5S exists in this world, but the Accounting Bureau at least seemed to practice organization and tidiness.

"Robin-sama, could you please take all the boxes out once?"

Following Christine’s instructions, I took out all the boxes and lined them up. Then Christine gave directions like "This box goes there" and "This one here," so I placed them accordingly. Where dust had accumulated in the spots, Christine cast Purity. She did it very naturally, without seeming to concentrate much. Maybe Anisee-san could also use Purity casually?

There were a little over twenty boxes, so it didn’t take much time. After that was the tidying the director had mentioned, but since it was already this neat, it must usually be well-organized. I thought we would head back to the room when,

"Robin-sama, I heard you have been decided to go to the Mainz Kingdom. My husband told me last night."

Christine said.

"Yes. It’s not confirmed yet, but I think it will be within ten days."

At my reply, Christine made a sad expression and hugged me.

"I knew from the beginning that the day of parting would come, but now that it’s here, it’s painful."

Christine said something that sounded like a lover. Certainly, what we had could be called an affair, but in Japan it would be "sexual misconduct with a minor," right? No matter how willing I was, I think this is something an adult like Christine shouldn’t be doing. Saying that might sound like I’m shifting responsibility. As for me, I can’t have any future with married women or those who were previously married, so I think this has to end with parting.

In that case, Cass, who still has a husband... I actually want to take her with me, but she has to take care of Mother and the child she’s carrying, so I can’t bring her. Besides, she is still someone’s wife no matter what, so taking her would mean divorcing her husband. If that happened, Cass probably wouldn’t be able to return to this country again. From her husband’s perspective, would it be more convenient if Cass left? Would he think it’s fine if she never came back? If thinking only from a man’s convenience, that might be the case. Even though I’m doing similar things, I think you shouldn’t allow that!
