Chapter 123: We Ended Up Fighting Them After All

"Charge!!"

I pumped myself up and lowered my sword, then sprinted in to join the fight!

I was surprised by how fast I was running as I suddenly appeared right in front of the thieves. Instead of fighting the thieves, I was receiving their slashes and being pushed back, leaving me half-wanting to cry. But I shoved my sword into the thief’s open mouth and slit his jaw all the way to the base. With the momentum of my charge, I just kept going straight through. Behind me, a scream rang out — Gyaahhh—!! — probably from one of the security team members who’d been splashed with blood.

""Lord Robby—yyyy—!!""

Lily and Stevie’s voices screamed behind me. They were probably trying to stop me from charging too far, but I was already too fast. I couldn’t stop.

I jumped boing!boing! and reached the man who had been watching from behind the group. He was completely off-guard. He frantically raised his sword, but before he could swing, I slid mine into his neck. I angled it shallowly so it wouldn’t go all the way through to the spine, then slashed just enough to cut the vessels.

"Gwa—?!"

I heard the sound.

After cutting him down, I was now behind the group of thieves. My momentum carried me straight past them. I stopped, turned, and looked back. I wasn’t sure if the thief I’d just cut was the boss or someone of similar rank, but a few thieves were already rushing over to him.

"You bastards!!"

The thief shouted and charged toward me. I could see Lily and Stevie chasing them from behind, but they couldn’t catch up to the ones still coming at me. If I got surrounded, I’d be in trouble.

So I stepped sideways and leaped up onto the wall of a noble mansion.

"Wait!!"

The thieves chasing me from behind jumped up too. But yelling loudly while climbing is a fatal mistake. Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Arrows flew toward me and the thieves.

The thieves were right under the arrow line when they jumped. Too bad for them — an arrow hit the thief right in the stomach.

"Uwaah!"

He fell back into the mansion. More arrows came flying toward me. I ducked, evaded them, and leaped over the thief who was still groaning below. My jump was so high I was surprised even myself.

"Damn it!"

The thief who’d been chasing from behind was cut down by Lily. The one next to him was cut down by Stevie.

"Behind you!!"

When I was being pulled toward the ends, Lily and Stevie were distracted. The one directly in front of me was wide open. For a split second, I slashed down at his back. I only cut a thin strip of flesh, but it was loud enough to make him scream,

"Gyaaahhh—!!"

The scream made me turn around. Lily and Stevie were there. In the end, I helped them take out several thieves in the blink of an eye.

The remaining thieves were still fighting the security team, but their initial momentum had faded. The ones I’d helped cut down were probably the leaders. The thieves didn’t seem like they were going to fight to the death anymore. They looked like they just wanted to escape if they could.

Stevie picked up one of the thieves’ swords, held it backward, shouted "Hah!" and threw it. The sword flew straight and disappeared into the thief’s back. Whoa! The thief collapsed face-first. One of the security team members who had been lying underneath him looked even worse for wear.

Seeing that, Lily picked up the fallen bow and arrows and fired one. It pierced the thief’s shoulder. He clutched his shoulder and rolled. A security team member stabbed his sword into the back of the thief’s neck. The team member was panting. When he finished him off, he rolled over and lay flat on his back.

The security team was in shambles. Only about half of them were still standing. Some were sitting, exhausted. Others were lying on the ground.

"Lord Robby, please use Purity here. If you leave any residual mana, you won’t be able to sleep. Let’s use it up now."

Lily said it with the casual tone of someone who had nothing to do. I had no choice but to obey. I cast Purity and washed away the bloodstains. My mana had probably increased a little since last time. The bloodstains were still faint, but I still couldn’t make them completely disappear. Even in the dark, the blood remained visible. Tonight it was Stevie who used Purity on me instead. Stevie really is capable despite her appearance.

Just like last time, I let the security team claim credit for the thieves I helped kill and stayed in a safe distance to watch. This time they took quite a beating, so the captain’s face was pale.

The lieutenant who had come was still shocked, but he was happy about the victory. It seemed he had received praise from above and it would be the springboard for his promotion.

In a low voice, I asked Lily,

"Can you use healing magic on them? Can you heal the injured team members?"

She covered her mouth and replied,

"I can use it a little, but it’s not very powerful, so using it here would cause trouble. I won’t use it."

"If you order me to, I will heal them," I asked. My heart stirred, but I decided not to do it. If I healed them, it would complicate things. If the effect wasn’t great, they might get angry and say, "Why can’t you do more?!" I was only here as an observer anyway. Besides, the security team would have their own medical personnel.

The thieves had been wiped out, and the security team was completely broken. They hadn’t even completed half their scheduled route, so the patrol was canceled. We walked behind the security team as they returned with their heads down. Suddenly, I looked up at the wall and saw something glowing. They were watching us leave.
