Chapter 672: Chapter 672: The First Wife Sold by Her Husband 18
That evening, the three siblings boarded the train back to the Northeast. By the time they reached home, it was already noon the next day.
The autumn harvest in the village had ended, and there was basically no work left in the fields. The team leader organized the villagers to go thirty-some miles away to the mountains to chop firewood for the winter. Since it was a long journey, they spent the whole day there, with everyone bringing their own food to eat on the mountain.
All the young people in the village went, leaving only the elderly and young kids at home to watch over things.
At the Wang family, it was Wang Mu and several kids who hadn’t started school yet. Wang Mu was coming out of the kitchen with a bucket of pig feed when she saw her eldest son, second son, and youngest daughter entering through the courtyard gate.
"Yuan Chun, you’re back." Wang Mu put down the pig feed and happily came up to meet them, hugging Yuan Chun tightly. "My daughter, I’ve missed you so much."
"Mom, the Imperial City was so fun. We just got a bit greedy and stayed a few more days," Yuan Chun said with a sheepish grin.
On the way back, the siblings had agreed not to tell the family about the trafficking incident to prevent any rumors from spreading. Outsiders, unaware of the facts, might imagine the worst about the three siblings.
Wang Hongjun and Wang Hongmin were men, so it was not a big deal for them. But Yuan Chun was a woman, and if a woman is linked to a trafficking case, even if nothing happened, outsiders might let their imaginations run wild.
Yuan Chun wanted to continue living in the village and didn’t want to ruin her reputation or be the subject of gossip.
Although she didn’t care much about those things, anyone who could live well would prefer not to be looked down upon.
Wang Hongmin laughed, "Mom, the Imperial City was so fun. There are so many people, and so many shops! The roads there are even wider than our courtyard at home, enough for seven or eight tractors to run side by side."
"And there are department stores, four stories high. The clothes they sell can dazzle you." Wang Hongmin puffed up his chest and tugged at his new clothes. "Mom, look, this is what little sis bought for me from the department store. Even the defective pieces cost sixteen yuan."
As soon as he finished speaking, Wang Mu gave him a knock on the head, causing Wang Hongmin to cry out in pain, "Mom, why did you hit me?"
"You silly boy, a sixteen-yuan shirt, and you’re so willing to wear it. Quickly take it off and save it for New Year’s."
"Mom, if I wear something this thin at New Year’s, I’ll freeze." He still wanted to wear it out that night to show off to his childhood friends. He certainly wasn’t going to take it off.
Wang Mu wasn’t serious about having him take it off. She wiped her hands on her apron, picked up the bundle from the ground, and went back into the house. "You guys haven’t had lunch yet, right? There’s still rice in the pot. I’ll cook you some cabbage and vermicelli stew."
"Mom, don’t bother with the stew. We’ll just have soy sauce fried rice."
"Alright, I’ll go make some fried rice for you."
The kids playing in the room heard their voices and came running out one by one, "Dad, Second Uncle, Little Aunt is back."
"Mom, you’re back."
"First Uncle, Second Uncle, Little Aunt..."
All six kids came running out, circling the three of them.
Niu Niu grabbed her mom’s leg, looking up with deep affection, "Mom, I missed you so much. My tummy ached from missing you."
Looking at the soft and sweet Niu Niu, Yuan Chun’s heart melted. She scooped her daughter up and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "Niu Niu, I missed you too."
Niu Niu held her mom’s head, giggling.
Yuan Chun put her daughter down and said, "Niu Niu, Zhenhua, Zhenqiang, Zhenguo, Zhenbin, and Zhenhao, I bought candies for you all. Let me get them for you."
"Auntie, I want two pieces."
"Auntie, I want two pieces too."
"Auntie, my tummy is big; it can hold a lot."
