Chapter 1582 - 1571: Honest Fool
Chapter 1582: Chapter 1571: Honest Fool
"Are you saying all of these were ordered by our third son, Ye Qiu?" Wang Hong confirmed once more, "Boss, you didn’t get it wrong, did you?"
"How could I just make this up? It’s not just for today; Ye Laosan told me he’ll take all the pig offal from me in the future." The butcher said with a cheerful smile.
In the past, nobody wanted these pig offals, and it felt like a waste to give them away for free, and they didn’t sell for much either. Some people wanted pig liver and pig blood, but since Ye Qiu wanted everything, he decided not to sell these to others and sold everything as a package to Ye Qiu. At least he sold them all, and it could make a little money.
"What’s he doing buying so many pig offals?" Wang Hong’s eyes shifted as she couldn’t figure it out.
"If even your family doesn’t know, how can we outsiders know?" the butcher said, knowing well the poor relationship between Ye Qiu, his parents, and his elder brother’s family in the village. To speak the truth, it’s because Old Lady Wang is biased and Ye Chun is inconsiderate; otherwise, would Ye Qiu have been reduced to eating pig offals every day?
"Didn’t his wife invite a doctor who said he needs more nourishment? Maybe they can’t afford meat, so they buy some of this instead; it can still count as meat, right?"
After listening to the butcher’s analysis, Wang Hong felt it made some sense. She then bought a pound of meat and went home happily. During dinner, she shared the news, "The third son’s wife says it’s for Ye Qiu’s good, but isn’t it just being stingy with money?"
"Enough, don’t bring her up in front of me." Wang Po said unhappily. She thought if it weren’t for Niu Xue Mei, would this family have been divided? Now, at her age, she has to work in the fields every day, feeling sore and tired at night without getting enough sleep.
"I was just talking. Mom, now the third son’s family no longer has their own fields, what are they going to do for a living? I thought since the third son is better now, let him come help with some work in the house. If he needs to nourish his body, just give him two eggs a day?" Wang Hong calculated her plan, thinking of making Ye Qiu work for free for just a meal; those two eggs certainly wouldn’t be all for Ye Qiu but for the whole family to eat together.
Wang Po also thought her eldest daughter-in-law’s suggestion was not quite right, but she was genuinely a bit tempted as the work in the fields had indeed tired her out recently.
"Well, after you finish eating, go to the third son and talk to him about it." Wang Po instructed.
Wang Hong cursed under her breath, knowing well such thankless tasks would fall to her, yet she wanted to try. Though if Old Lady Wang is tired, isn’t she tired too? She’s even more exhausted, having to handle fields and housework, only after splitting up did she realize how hard keeping a house clean really was.
Every day she had to clear away the pig and poultry manure quickly, or it filled the house with stench. She had to clean everywhere else, otherwise it would be dusty everywhere, plus she had to gather pig feed, pick chicken and duck eggs, wash clothes, cook, and by the time these chores were done, half the day was gone. She wondered how Niu Xue Mei did it all by herself before.
Thankfully the busy farming season had passed; otherwise, she’d be even more exhausted. During this time, she rose earlier than the chickens, slept later than the dogs, and her skin was worse than before. Fortunately, she didn’t need to chop firewood or fetch water; otherwise, she’d be dead tired.
Though she didn’t hold out hope for Ye Qiu coming to work, Wang Hong decided to try anyway. After all, the third son and his wife were naive; if she says it was his mother asking them to do it, they probably wouldn’t refuse, considering it was filial duty.
Convinced she’d figured it out, Wang Hong was full of confidence. Before even reaching the end of the village, she caught a whiff of delicious aroma.
She thought to herself, only the third son’s family lives here, and weren’t these two frugal? What good food are they making?
She intended to sneak into the courtyard silently, but as soon as she approached, two dogs ran out barking fiercely at her. Though the dogs were small, they frightened Wang Hong a bit.
She stared at them in an attempt to intimidate, "Get lost, or I’ll kick you."
At this moment, Ye Congying and Ye Congzi heard the commotion and ran out, saying to her, "Eldest Aunt, why are you here? Saihu, Sheng Bao, come back."
"Are those dogs yours?" Wang Hong looked at the two dogs with dislike, refusing to admit she was scared of the little pups, "With names like Saihu and Sheng Bao, do you think they can outrun tigers and surpass leopards? Such wishful thinking."
"Eldest Aunt, what does wishful thinking mean? Dad said as long as Saihu and Sheng Bao can guard the house and chase away thieves, they’re good enough." Ye Congying said in a sweet voice.
Wang Hong got even angrier, feeling like she was being likened to a thief sneaking in just now.
"Where are your mom and dad?" Her tone turned sour.
Ye Congying used to be afraid of her but not anymore. After all, they weren’t living together anymore, and Dad said they ate their own food now, having nothing to do with the elders. If anyone bullied them, they should come back and tell, and Dad would stand up for them.
"Dad’s in the kitchen. Eldest Aunt, I’ll go call Mom and Dad out." Ye Congying felt her aunt’s visit was odd and suspected she might be here to take their good food, which she would not let her two cousins get their hands on.
"I’ll just go in myself." Wang Hong stepped past her, ready to open the door when Ye Qiu came out, closing the kitchen door behind him, leaving Wang Hong’s plans foiled.
She squinted her eyes and smiled, "What’s Xue Mei cooking that’s so good that even I can’t have a peek?"
"Nothing. If you want something good to eat, didn’t you split the family with so much land and poultry, just go buy it." Ye Qiu replied without much expression.
Wang Hong rolled her eyes and hummed, "Like I wouldn’t know, it’s just pig offal; only you guys would eat that stuff."
"Since Eldest Aunt knows, why be so curious? What’s your reason for coming here?"
Ye Qiu knew Wang Hong wouldn’t come to their house for nothing, especially without some ulterior motive.
Wang Hong’s eyes shifted, and she put on a pleasant smile, "It’s for your own good, seeing as your family isn’t buying much good food for nourishment. Why don’t you and Xue Mei come eat at our place?"
"When did Eldest Aunt become so kind-hearted?" Ye Qiu didn’t believe her at all. "If Eldest Aunt really cared, why haven’t you brought over a pound of meat or slaughtered a chicken and brought it here?"
Wang Hong internally spat twice, thinking there’s no way she’d let Ye Qiu have such luxuries.
But remembering the housework, she kept a good tone, "Don’t worry. Good food won’t be scarce for you guys. I see you have free time during the day. Mom said maybe you can help us with some planting. It’s not hard work."
Ye Qiu laughed coldly, "So Eldest Aunt is here to ask for free labor? Offering just a meal for me and Xue Mei to work a whole day? Why doesn’t Eldest Aunt go outside and see if there are such good deals out there?"
"It’s Mom’s idea. Would you dare not listen to her?" Wang Hong retorted, feeling that Ye Qiu had grown bold to speak like this.
Ye Qiu smirked, "Eldest Aunt, we’ve already split the family."
