Chapter 609: Chapter 607: Anything That Attracts Madam Is Good

Hearing this, Eve Warren’s eyes widened. She stammered, "No, I don’t believe it... This old, ugly hag can’t be me."

Celeste Grant smiled faintly and said softly, "Jocelyn Grant’s mother, don’t doubt it. It’s you, it’s you... it really is you. I can guarantee it. You’ve lost your Spirit Root and have not a single shred of Cultivation left in your body. You’re just an ordinary mortal now. An old mortal on the verge of death, at that."

Eve Warren stared with those old, murky eyes, shaking her head repeatedly. "I’m not a mortal. I’m not a mortal."

Celeste Grant said nonchalantly, "The first lesson in being human is to have the courage to face your true self. Just admit it, Eve Warren. You are a mortal."

At that, Jocelyn Grant’s mother completely broke down.

She screamed, "AHHH! Shut up! Shut up! Mortals are a bunch of lowly ants! How could they possibly compare to me? I am not a mortal!"

Hearing this, Celeste Grant sneered. "Eve Warren, you look down on mortals, yet now you are precisely the mortal you despise most."

At this, her tone shifted as she added, "You know, you really should thank me." Her fingers gently brushed the Step Shaking hairpin at her side. "I did this for you because we’re old acquaintances, and because you’re Jocelyn Grant’s mother. I’m helping you experience what it’s like to be a mortal. My fellow cultivator, I’m helping you! Believe me, the path to immortality isn’t just about Cultivation. Besides cultivating, you must first learn how to be a person. If you can’t even get that right, what’s the point of cultivating to be an Immortal? So, have you reached enlightenment?"

Celeste Grant’s light, airy words landed like a sledgehammer on her fragile heart, causing an agonizing pain. Now, her murky old eyes were fixed on Celeste Grant in a death glare.

’She was enlightened? Enlightened, my ass.’

"Celeste Grant... I won’t let you get away with this."

Celeste Grant just rolled her eyes at the threat. She didn’t take it seriously at all, mainly because Eve Warren no longer had the power to back it up. She couldn’t do anything to her before, so what could she possibly do now as an ordinary person?

"Heh... I really can’t be bothered with you. Don’t worry, I’ll let you live for a couple more Chapters. You haven’t even experienced the hardships of Terrus yet. If you died now, your transformation into a mortal would be for nothing. Since you’re already here, you might as well stay and cultivate."

As she spoke, she flicked her sleeve and turned her back on Eve Warren on the ground. She raised two fingers, and with a light swipe, the Barrier she had previously set up was dispelled.

The courtyard returned to normal. They had been inside a Barrier, so even the Hidden Guards of The Prince’s Manor didn’t know what had happened within, let alone the ordinary people outside.

Meanwhile, Eve Warren, who was already halfway to her grave, lay gasping for breath on the ground. Next to her was a pit in the earth. As for Celeste Grant, she didn’t even spare her another glance, walking straight over to Javier Sinclair and sitting down beside him.

After Celeste Grant sat down, she called out.

"Someone."

The moment she spoke, a Hidden Guard from the manor appeared.

When the young Hidden Guard appeared, his eyes swept across the courtyard. The first thing he saw was the old woman on the ground, who was barely breathing. ’This crone’s hair is completely white, and her skin is wrinkled like tree bark. She must be in her eighties, right?’

’Wait, that’s not what I should be focusing on.’

’What I’m curious about now is how this old woman managed to break through our defenses to get into this courtyard. Could she be some kind of master at concealing her presence? But looking closely, she doesn’t seem to have any martial arts skills. She looks like an ordinary person without a trace of training.’

Seeing the Hidden Guard, Celeste Grant said, "An assassin just infiltrated The Prince’s Manor."

"An assassin?" Upon hearing this, the Hidden Guard immediately drew his saber and pointed it at the old woman, his eyes filled with killing intent. ’Although this hag on the ground looks like an ordinary person, some assassins are masters of disguise. The fact that she could bypass our defenses and sneak into the manor is enough to prove she’s no ordinary person.’

Celeste Grant’s gaze swept coolly over Eve Warren. "Her martial arts have been crippled. She’s just an ordinary person now."

The Hidden Guard dropped to one knee, lowering his head to ask for punishment.

"My Prince, My Princess Consort, this subordinate has been derelict in his duty, allowing an assassin to infiltrate the manor. Please, Your Highnesses, administer punishment."

’The Hidden Guards of The Warden’s Northern Manor are, after all, just ordinary people, even if they’re highly skilled in martial arts. How could they possibly detect the aura of a Cultivator? Since we arrived in this world, these men have been diligent and faultless. How could I possibly blame them?’

Thinking this, Celeste Grant waved her hand. "Rise. This is not your fault. The assassin was highly skilled and very good at concealment."

The Hidden Guard was moved.

"Thank you, My Prince. Thank you, My Princess Consort."

’An assassin infiltrating the manor is our failure. We should have been punished, but not only did the Prince and Princess Consort refrain from punishing us, they didn’t even blame us. It’s our good fortune to serve such wonderful masters.’

The words "assassin" and "ordinary person" were more than Eve Warren could bear. She screeched like a madwoman, "Insolence! How dare you! I am a Cultivator! I am an Immortal! An Immortal from The Upper Realm!"

The Hidden Guard glanced sideways at the old woman on the ground and sneered. "Insolent wench! Do not be presumptuous before the Prince and Princess Consort."

’No wonder she’s an assassin; the woman’s clearly lost her mind. An old hag with one foot in the grave daring to call herself an Immortal? What audacity. Truly an eyesore.’

’Our Kelldorn is indeed blessed by a God, and that God is none other than the Young Master, a Celestial God descended to the mortal realm. We saw it with our own eyes. What kind of creature has the gall to try and steal credit from our Young Master Heir? She’s courting death.’

The Hidden Guard looked to Celeste Grant and the others, asking for instructions.

"My Princess Consort, how should this assassin be dealt with?"

Hearing the words "dealt with," Eve Warren, who was used to being high and mighty, couldn’t stomach it. She slammed her hand on the ground and said furiously, "Mere mortals! What right do you have to deal with me?"

Her hair in disarray, Eve Warren propped herself up. She raised her head to look in Celeste Grant’s direction, then glared daggers at the Hidden Guard, wishing she could grind his bones to dust. In the past, if any mortal had dared to look at her so directly, to offend her, they would have been annihilated long ago.

"You mere mortals, you dare touch me?" A trace of her old arrogance remained in her voice. "I am an Immortal from The Upper Realm. How dare you mortals presume to pass judgment on me?"

Celeste Grant glanced at her and said indifferently, "Take her away. Find some hard labor for her to do. Hauling sandbags, digging in a stone quarry... I, the Princess Consort, think that would suit her perfectly. She must finish her work every day. An age like hers is the prime time for striving, after all. As for food, give her one steamed bun a day. Even if she’s going to die, she should first make a contribution to the nation."

The Hidden Guard accepted the order.

"Yes, My Princess Consort."
