Chapter 603: Chapter 601: This Style Doesn’t Look Right
This whole scene just feels... wrong.
Aaron Sinclair looked up at the sky. ’There’s no way Mom and Dad didn’t see that eye earlier, right? So why are they so calm, acting like nothing happened? They’re actually roasting sweet potatoes. Roasting sweet potatoes!’
He walked over to them, and once he was standing right beside them, Aaron Sinclair waved a hand in front of their faces.
Seeing their son’s little hand waving there, Javier Sinclair and Celeste Grant simultaneously looked up at him.
"What’s up?"
Their son’s voice was low. "Nothing... It’s just that this all feels a little unreal." ’They definitely saw it. They had to. So why aren’t they showing any emotion? Monsters just appeared—actual, legendary monsters.’
Celeste Grant gently took her son’s hand, pulled him closer, and pointed to a small stool nearby. "Come, sit down, son. Try the sweet potatoes your mom roasted. Your dad and I timed it perfectly. You got here at just the right moment."
"Thanks, Mom." As he spoke, Aaron Sinclair glanced at the low stool and sat down.
The roasted sweet potatoes smelled wonderful.
"Smells amazing."
They looked delicious.
For a brief moment, Aaron Sinclair set aside his worries.
Celeste Grant gestured to Javier Sinclair with her hand. "Hurry up and peel one for your son."
With a slight nod, Javier Sinclair looked at the mother and son and didn’t argue. After all, he, the great Demon God, was at his wife and son’s beck and call.
He took a roasted sweet potato and peeled off the skin for his son. Leaving a small part of the skin on for him to hold, he blew on it to cool it down before handing it over.
"Go on, eat up!"
Aaron Sinclair took it and bit into it. It was soft, sticky, and sweet—delicious. But as he took another bite, the image of the eye that had appeared earlier flashed through his mind. His hand, holding the sweet potato, paused, and he couldn’t help but sigh.
He looked up at his parents and said in a low voice, "Dad, Mom... you saw it, right? That eye in the sky—it was blood-red and evil. It possessed a dangerous power that felt unstoppable. If that thing really does come back and descends upon this world... I can’t imagine what a disaster it would be. What would you two do? I wouldn’t be able to protect you."
He was just an ordinary person, with no power to fight against monsters.
Hearing this, the couple, Celeste Grant and Javier Sinclair, exchanged a glance and smiled. Their gazes were gentle and reassuring as they looked at their son.
Javier Sinclair spoke up. "Don’t worry. As long as your father is here, the sky won’t come crashing down."
His voice was deep and magnetic, firm and resonant. His tone carried an air of supreme arrogance, born from absolute confidence.
Celeste Grant placed a hand on her son’s shoulder, turning slightly to look at him. Gazing at the boy’s young, innocent face, she thought of the man he would become.
She smiled, her eyes filled with warmth.
"Not bad, not bad at all."
"My son has grown up. He understands the hardships of the common people, knows to pity the weak, and even wants to protect us." She patted his head gently. "But... hehe, son, all you need to do is grow up happy. This is grown-up business. Your dad and I are here. Don’t worry about a single eye in the sky. Even if a few more showed up, it wouldn’t matter."
The question was written all over Aaron Sinclair’s face. He glanced at his father, then back at his mother beside him. ’I feel like I understand their words, but at the same time, I don’t understand at all.’
He narrowed his eyes, staring at his mother.
"Mom, Dad, are you two hiding something from me?"
Javier Sinclair shot him a look, a faint, teasing smile on his lips.
"What do you think? Kid, what could I possibly hide from you?" Inwardly, however, he was laughing. ’Hah! My dear son, serves you right for always making me angry. You even made me kneel on a washboard. Now that you’ve lost your memory, you’ve fallen right into my hands.’
He glanced at his father and mother. "I just feel like something’s wrong," he said in a low voice.
As he spoke, Aaron Sinclair glanced at the sky again and couldn’t help but ask, "Mom, weren’t you scared when you saw that eye? It’s okay if you were, really. I won’t laugh at you."
Celeste Grant chuckled. "Scared of what? Of course not."
Aaron Sinclair met his mother’s eyes and saw only amusement, not a single trace of fear. ’Could it be that Mom is just like me? That when she sees something that terrifying, she doesn’t feel any fear at all? I get it. It must be genetic.’
He took another bite of sweet potato. "Mom, no matter what, I’ll do everything I can to protect you both. Damn it, if only I had some kind of transcendent power... but I’m just an ordinary person." ’Otherwise, when I faced that eye today, I wouldn’t have just been bluffing. I would have destroyed it on the spot.’
’An ordinary person?’
Hearing this, Celeste Grant glanced at her son and gave a faint smile. Clearing her throat, she said, "Oh, son! Have you ever considered the possibility that you’re not actually an ordinary person?" ’And it’s not just him. It’s me and his father, too.’
’Then again, he is an ordinary person for now.’
’His Primordial Spirit is currently under a Seal, so his body right now is indeed that of a normal human. As long as the Seal on his Primordial Spirit isn’t broken, he’ll live this life as an ordinary person. Only after he dies of old age will this wisp of his Primordial Spirit return to his true body.’
’But since it’s just his Primordial Spirit that’s sealed, he isn’t fundamentally an ordinary person.’
Hearing Celeste Grant’s words, Aaron Sinclair looked up at her, his face full of curiosity. "Oh? Are you serious, Mom? Do I have some other secret identity that I don’t know about?"
Celeste Grant said, "Son, do you want to hear the truth or a lie?"
Aaron Sinclair glanced at her.
"Let’s hear it."
The moment he finished speaking, Celeste Grant said with a perfectly straight face, "Well, the truth is... none of us in this family are ordinary people. Your mother, me, practices Cultivation, and your father practices Devil Cultivation. Aaron, you’re our son, so of course you have our blood in you. Oh, right, your dad also has another identity: he’s the leader of The Demonic Sects."
’Leader of The Demonic Sects? My own father?’ Hearing this, Aaron Sinclair was stunned for a moment, but he just assumed his mother was joking to try and comfort him, so he didn’t take it seriously.
At that thought, he couldn’t help but say, "Mom, it’s a real waste of your talent that you don’t write novels. According to you, our family is basically a clan of Demons. If only that were true. A measly eye? I’d just wave my hand and turn it to dust."
Celeste Grant let out a soft laugh.
"That’s one way to put it."
Aaron Sinclair smiled and said, "Come on, Mom, stop messing around. We were talking about something serious. We were discussing the problem with that eye, why are you making up stories?"
