Elias’s POV

Noah outshines the sun.

I do not mean it in a good way. The happiness radiating off him is making my blood boil. He’s smiling brightly and it’s not for me. He makes me crave putting a bullet through his head.

We are both in the car waiting for Lucas. That bastard asked for two hours to get ready. I generously gave him thirty extra minutes, and I regret it. The two hours and thirty minutes I gave him are already up and he’s not here yet.

I check my pocket watch and stop myself from growling. It has been thirty extra minutes of sitting here idle.

The past thirty minutes have been occupied with enduring Noah’s endless chattering. And the worst part of it all is that Noah isn’t talking to me. He talks to himself, to the insects that occasionally pass by, to the air, but not to me.

It’s irrational.

"Sorry I’m late, I needed to take my important things. I take skincare seriously especially now that I have to wear a Band-Aid on my stunning face" Lucas says as he approaches the car with a large bag. I scowl as he gets in the passenger seat.

"What did you bring along?" Noah asks. The omega leans forward to look into Lucas’s bag and I growl at the back of my throat.

He isn’t talking to me, yet he’s willing to talk to Lucas about his bag. That makes no sense.

"I brought sunscreen, two bottles of a tropical drink, a few other things, and everything Elias doesn’t have" Lucas says and Noah chortles.

The universe will be forced to understand my situation when I throw Lucas into the lake with a chain around his neck.

This bodyguard is getting on my nerves.

"Anyway. It’s going to be so much fun because I will be there for you, Wigglypuff" Lucas says and Noah hums before leaning back in the seat. He is grinning to himself and subtly kicking his feet.

I turn my head in his direction slightly and he doesn’t acknowledge me. It makes me bothered whenever he doesn’t talk to me. He might not be a jack-in-the-box, but he remains mine to draw reaction from.

I move towards him subtly and he reacts by moving away.

’Fuck’ my alpha grunts as my facial muscles twitch.

Do I need to beg for his attention now? Isn’t it bad enough that I’ve been wanting to fuck him from the moment I remembered his pending punishment with the phone sex tease.

"Have you listened to this album?" Lucas asks and starts to play one of those pop songs I don’t understand.

"Wait, is that new?" Noah asks with curiosity, leaning forward again to see the name of the song on Lucas’s phone.

"Do you live under a goddamn rock?" Lucas gasps and I lean back in my seat. To make myself more comfortable, I cross my arms. It’s not to sulk, it’s to think.

I need to think of a way to get Noah’s eyes on me again. My phone vibrates in my pocket, and when I reach for it, I see the new text message from Damien.

DamienTheGreat:

Where are you?

Stiles’ burial takes place in seventy-five minutes’ time.

Elias Deus:

I’ll be unavailable.

I’m busy with Noah.

DamienTheGreat:

Come home. Roman is claiming to have something for you.

He might be trying to clear his father’s name.

I suggest bobing the burial ground.

Elias Deus:

Bombing.

DamienTheGreat:

That’s what I said.

Elias Deus:

You typed bobing. And no. We won’t be bombing anything.

Roman is seemingly innocent. If we get him and the city on our side, it would be a win.

DamienTheGreat:

Fuck. You’re back to your philosophy of creating a leader, aren’t you?

What does Stiles’ city have to offer us?

Elias Deus:

Relationship.

We’ll make it into a secret and a private ladder to finding things out.

If Roman plays the role, we’ll use him to discover the exact places that granted Julian immunity.

That way, we can map out territories to deal with him at. Also, we will get precise information on the things Julian and Goldsmith do.

The most important thing is that we will also find the omegas taken by them.

DamienTheGreat:

Fuck I hate all these diplomatic shits.

Text me when it’s time to fuck something or someone up.

But I’m serious, come home soon. The sooner we deal with Roman, the earlier we can start a new plan.

I sigh and put my phone in my pocket. Leaving now will be difficult, but necessary. It is difficult because I don’t want to leave Noah alone again, and it is necessary because Noah’s future depends on this.

I turn my head to the side, and I find Noah staring at me.

"Who were you texting with?" he asks.

"Damien" I say flatly.

"Oh. Okay, that’s good" he says and returns to looking out the window. In less than forty minutes, we arrive at the beach, and Noah jumps out of the car with a yell.

I get out of the car just to watch him head for the water with his shoes on. There is another pair of shoes in the car. I already knew he would run thoughtlessly.

His playfulness is the only thing I can correctly predict about my mate.

I fold my arms, lean against the car, and watch as he spreads his arms to feel the wind. My shirt makes it look like he’s soaring. The sun is at the perfect intensity to make Noah’s golden hair glow like it’s a halo.

My angel.

"Damn, Eli. You’re smitten" Lucas says, shutting the door and holding on to his oversized bag.

"It’s simple logic, everyone stops and stares at something beautiful" I say with no emotions in my tone. No one needs a microscope to see that Noah is beautiful. It’s just as simple as that.

"That’s the thing, Eli. I’ve known you since we were teens. The only thing you stop and stare at are rocks, watches, books and other keepsakes at times" Lucas says and an uncomfortable heat spreads through my chest.

"I don’t like being psychoanalyzed, Lucas" I say while looking straight in his eyes, and he gives me a sad smile.

"I’m not trying to psychoanalyze you, E. I’m just saying you love him..."

"ELIAS! The water is so cool" Noah shouts at a distance and we both turn our heads to look at him.

The omega is standing in the water, his shoes are still on, but he is holding up his pants. Ridiculous. He’s a ridiculous man.

"Hey...just make things easier for both of you by coming to terms with it. The Elias I know will never tolerate going to a beach unplanned, neither would he go out without a book..." Lucas’s voice trails off.

"I’m returning home. Take care of Elias and I’ll be back before it’s time to go" I order and open the car door.

"You can’t run from it, Elias" Lucas says and I shut the door.

As I roll up the tinted window, I see Noah kicking the water and laughing at himself. He looks so fucking happy and so fucking alive it makes my chest hurt. What if I end up killing him like I kill everything else?

"Drive" I command the driver and Lucas knocks on the window.

"You can’t keep running" he yells loud enough that I hear it through the glass, and Noah turns around to see what’s happening.

Before I can read his emotions and expression, my driver takes off.
