Noah’s POV

That moment last night was not an hallucination.

I gasp as I wake up to the weight of someone else lying next to me on the bed.

Oh. My. Goddess.

"Ahh!!" I scream and fall off the bed, landing on the hard floor in shock and complete horror. My sudden movement and yell also makes the person on the bed fall off the other end. I sit and they sit up. In less than five seconds I blink ten times in surprise as Roman and I stare at each other’s face.

"R-Roman?" I stutter and he keeps staring at me.

Oh Goddess, I must have dazed him with my panic. The alpha runs his fingers though his golden hair and I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s something funny that even in the morning, Roman looks like a perfect prince from a Disney movie.

He and I used to be perfect friends, perfect future spouses, and perfect crushes.

"I didn’t mean to scare you" he says softly and I nod, my head is still reeling from the initial shock, but when my mind settles, I pull myself off the floor.

My brain is making me remember the reason I’m here in the first place. I’m here to spy. I’m here to prove him and his family innocent.

"It’s okay, Ro. I just didn’t know that someone was lying next to me. You know how deeply I sleep," I laugh awkwardly and he gives me an automated smile even through his eyes are clearly sad.

"I didn’t want to wake you up when I came in. I couldn’t sleep in my room and when I heard you were in the mansion...I couldn’t stay away" he says softly and I worry my bottom lip with my teeth. His eyes are so sad, I wish I could do something about it.

Can I hug him? That would be okay... right?

"It’s okay, Roman. I mean, we used to hang out in my room together when we were kids, right?" I ask in a bright tone and he gives me a tired smile.

"Good old days" he murmurs and I nod in agreement.

He gets off the floor too and runs his fingers through his silky hair again. It’s a habit of his that shows up whenever he’s really stressed. Roman would keep raking his fingers through his hair and most times, I’ll make us hold hands so he can stop.

I really want to hug him.

"I’ll go...I’ll go back to my room now. Feel free to join us for breakfast" he says in that same soft voice and I shake my head. "I might sit out of breakfast. I don’t think Lily likes me right now" I inform him and the tired smile falls off his face.

"We’re all struggling with Dad’s death" he says and I wince.

"I’m sorry, Roman."

"It was violent and we still don’t have an idea who did it. The sick bastard left no clue and the person is still running around without justice being served...it’s driving me insane" his voice shakes as he says those words and my heart clenches for him.

"I’m really sorry, Roman. I wish there was something I can do" I say and take a step in his direction.

"You’re here for me, Noah. That alone matters the most" he says and the door is suddenly kicked open with enough force to break it down.

I gasp when I see Kai Deus standing there with his hands by his sides. His hair is disheveled, he’s wearing an oversized shirt, and his jaws are clenched. I tried to make friends with him yesterday, but without his phone in his hand, he looks like pure terror.

He looks like the kind of monster who will freeze you over and chop your body parts into bits.

"Get out" the Deus last born says and my legs wobble with fear.

Oh hell...oh no, Goddess, please no violence.

Please. Please. Please.

Roman eyes Kai’s frame with that severe tiredness in his expression. He gives me a simple nod and walks out of the room without saying a word. Oh thank Goddess, I don’t know why I keep forgetting that Roman became my crush because of how maturely he handled things.

By the time I turn to give my attention to Kai Deus, he’s already right in front of me.

"What the--" I whimper as he wraps his hand around my throat and his fingers are suddenly digging into the skin of my neck. He pushes me backwards until my back hits the wall and my eyes are bulging.

"Kai!" I yell, swinging my fist to get him off, but he doesn’t move, instead he keeps me pinned to the wall as his blue eyes flash red with alpha rage.

"Have you forgotten that you’re married to my own brother, brother-in-law?" he asks.

"What the hell is wrong with you? What does that have to do with you. Roman is my friend" I spit out as I successfully push Kai off me. The alpha stares at me with quiet rage while I keep myself pressed against the wall.

I don’t want him touching me again. He’s terrifying in every single way. Elias is terrible too, but the devil I know is always better than the angel I don’t know.

"Did that alpha sleep here?" Kai asks with a frown and I choose not to give him an answer.

The door is pushed open gently and Lucas peeks into the room, he looks half asleep as he takes in our positions. Me pressed against the wall and Kai standing in front of me like a predator.

"Hey...what’s going on?" he asks with concern.

"Roman slept here" Kai says without taking his eyes off me.

"What?" Lucas yells with a cartoonish reaction.

"You’re acting like he slept with me" I groan. They’re both frustrating me with the way they’re acting. Roman only slept by my side. He didn’t do anything with me! He just slept side to side with me...I think.

"He did technically sleep with you. Oh fuck, Elias is going to have a killing spree and I’m going to be the first person he murders" Lucas moans and runs his fingers down his face in dread.

Is he serious? Are they being serious right now?

’He almost mauled you for smelling like Roman’ my omega reminds me and I whimper in fear. I don’t want anyone dying just because I slept next to a friend. I don’t want Elias possessiveness to cost anyone their lives.

"We didn’t do anything. We only slept side by side" I say desperately.

"Save your explanation for later and get dressed. You’ll be offering yourself to spend the day with Roman" Kai says coldly and I press my lips together.

"I didn’t do--"

"You’re representing the Deus family. If you make one wrong move, everything goes wrong. And if that truly happens, Noah. I’ll make sure you suffer just as bad as every other omega Roger Stiles has made to suffer" Kai says with that same icy expression and tone before walking out of the room.

Roger Stiles is Roman’s father and I know he’s a good man...isn’t he?

"Goddess" I rub my fingers into my temple to soothe the building headache.

At this point I’m sick of trying to find out new things about the old people I know and trust. I turn around to look at Lucas and explain myself again, I need at least one person to believe me.

"Lucas, I didn’t do anything with Roman" I say.

"I know. I believe you, Noah" he says darkly and pauses before letting out a sigh.

"Just...try not to do anything with Roman at all. Elias wouldn’t like it one bit" he says and I nod.

There’s nothing to do with Roman. I’m in love with Elias and I know it, so they have nothing to worry about.
