Noah’s POV

I stifle my fifth yawn because since the first two slipped past my lips, I’ve been feeling like Kai is starting to plot my murder.

I still can’t believe I thought I could bond with him. This nineteen-year-old is icier than his older brother, Elias. Well, good luck to the omega or beta or alpha who ends up with him.

They better pack enough fire to melt this ice king; he should have been the one named Elias. That way I would have been able to secretly call him Elsa.

I sneak a glance at him to confirm my next silly thought. He already has the same hair color as the queen of Arendelle. Yup, in my head I’ll call him Elso.

"We’re taking a short break here so we can stretch our legs. My ass feels numb" Lucas says from the passenger seat and the car slows to a stop.

We’re currently driving through a small town that feels quite cozy and safe.

I walk to the edge of the road to stand at the part of it that feels like a cliff while Kai and Lucas talk to each other behind me. It seems like they want to visit the convenience store nearby, so I zone out to enjoy the view in front of me.

The place is a wide land filled with different kinds of trees. I can see mangoes growing. I squint and smile when I spot an orange tree.

It’s all so pretty.

Nature holds the highest beauty and has the prettiest form of life. I wish I could take a picture. If I could, I’d send it to my stoic husband and yap about the beauty.

’Elias’ my omega whines his name soft. I sigh tiredly and wrap my arms around myself.

I miss him.

My omega whines again at the thought of my mate. I shut my eyes and try to reach for him through our mating bond, but he sadly isn’t here. The link is still shut.

"Jerk" I mutter and kick a rock. I bet my kidneys he doesn’t care I’m gone. I bet he’s happily stroking his shiny rocks like a weirdo.

"Here" Kai’s voice says and I turn my head to find him shoving a can of soda in my direction. I stare at the drink and then at him. What’s going on?

"Uh...thanks?" I say with uncertainty but take the can from him.

He stands next to me and folds his arms. He’s pretty tall. He’s taller than Elias but not as tall as Damien.

"Noah, if you tell anyone about what you saw, remember I know where you live" he says in an attempt to look fierce. And instead of looking scary to me, he looks like a big tiger with cute white fur.

"Yeah, you know where I live because we live together, brother-in-law" I snort with a smile playing on my face.

"I mean it" he growls and I nod.

He’s adorably scary, and now that I have a secret of his in my hand, I know I’m also scary to him.

"Wanna talk about your...you know. Feelings" I say as I open the can and take a sip of the cool drink. He got me a really nice drink. I think I might forgive his attitude.

"I can’t. I’ll get killed or something. Alphas aren’t built to want alphas" he mutters and shoves his hands into his pocket. His head is down and his hair is covering his face from me.

He looks so...pitiful.

"You can’t help your feelings, Kai. And seriously, it’s nothing to be ashamed of" I say and he scoffs.

"You’re talking like you are not hiding things about yourself too" he says with an intention to hurt me, but it doesn’t land. His feelings matter more than my pride.

"My case is different from yours" I shrug.

"Is it?" he tilts his head and meets my eyes with his cold blue ones.

"I guess not, but I think it’s unfair to hide your feelings" I say and he looks away from me again. "The alpha I’m talking to right now thinks I’m an omega" he says and walks away from me.

I feel so sorry for him.

I don’t get why he’s still hiding something like this when he has a mother like Siren. I just know Siren would support his youngest son with all his heart no matter what. And I do hope Kai finds someone who deserves him.

"Okay, losers! My numb ass feels good again. I can’t lack a good ol’ cock and lack a juicy ass at the same time" Lucas announces and I almost choke on my drink.

That alpha has to be the most ridiculous person to ever walk the earth.

I return to the car and slide into the back seat.

Kai goes back to ignoring me and I busy myself with humming along to the Radiohead songs Lucas plays. He has a pretty cool taste in music, and I might steal his playlist when we’re back home.

When we arrive at Roman’s city, I look outside the window to observe the streets. The whole place looks and feels sad. They’re really in mourning.

If they all feel this sad...I wonder how bad it must be for Roman.

"We’ll be going to the governor’s house and that’s where we’ll spend the night" Kai says without looking up and I turn my head to him.

"They know we’re coming?" I ask, and Lucas starts to snicker in the front seat.

"They will either make room for us" the Winslow-born alpha says, and I open my mouth to say something.

"Or we’ll blow up the governor’s coffin" Kai adds and my jaw drops. The governor just died. His family is literally mourning. It would be evil to casually stroll in and cause damage for no reason.

"Keep your moral advice to yourself, saint Goldsmith. We don’t want it" Kai says as if he can hear my thoughts, and I shrink into the seat.

Yup, that was the reminder I needed. The Deus are horrible people.

I hope Roman doesn’t resist them, I’d hate to see him mourn his dead father’s round two death. That would be really bad.

"Just don’t hurt Roman" I mumble with the last drop of confidence I have, and Kai says nothing in response.

"Don’t worry, Wigglytuff. Romeo will be safe as long as he behaves himself" Lucas says with a high level of unnecessary enthusiasm.

I’m scared.
