Noah’s POV

My eyes open as soon as the golden ray of sunshine hits my face.

I close my gaping mouth and turn myself to the other side of the bed, trying to avoid the sun. Why is it so bright?

"Awww. You’re so cute when you drool, wigglytuff" Lucas’s voice says too closely to my face and I groan, stretching my hand out to push him away from my personal space.

I know I really don’t respect the concept of personal space, but it’s not okay when someone else does it to me.

"Get out, Lucas" I grumble and press my face into the pillow.

Oh wow.

I guess I did drool a lot. How did Elias even sleep here?

"What are you even doing here? What the heck?" I complain as I sit up. Under the morning lights my eyes are half open and I’m sure my hair is sticking up at various weird angles. I must look silly right now.

"Say what the fuck" Lucas says.

"Why would I say that?"

"Ah ah! So you could fuck in the purification basin yet you won’t say a swear word. I know what you are and it’s called being a pretender" he whispers dramatically and I shove his face away again.

He can fuck off.

"Where’s Elias?" I ask and Lucas yawns.

"He’s running laps somewhere far away so he doesn’t massacre his own family for taking you away, is the sex that good for both of you?" he asks and my shoulders sag at the thought of leaving here without seeing Elias.

"He’s really not going to tell me goodbye?" I ask.

"Yeah, well...if you want him to also say goodbye to everyone else in his family...you can ask him to come back home" Lucas says and I side eye him before getting out of the bed. It sucks. Our bond is still shut and I miss him even though I slept next to him all night.

Damn...I even hallucinated the Elias Deus saying he loves me.

Can you imagine that? Death Deus being in love with me is such a funny thought.

"Are you going crazy?" Lucas asks with genuine concern on his face and I blink twice. "What?" I ask.

"You were laughing to yourself just now...you know what, nevermind. Go wash up and get ready. Shave your face and all that, we have a long trip ahead" Lucas says and jumps out of the bed.

I don’t need to shave my face because for some reason, facial hair avoids me. While Zane gets to have stubbles here and there, I get to have nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"Can I see Zane before I go?" I ask Lucas and he makes a face.

"I’m sorry, but it’s not in my power to decide things like that" he says and I nod with understanding. The Deus and Lucas act like they’re family, but at the end of the day, there are still lines and a hierarchy to respect.

I guess I’ll go to Siren and ask him directly. If I can’t see Elias before leaving. I should at least see someone else I love the most.

I quietly get ready for the day, and while brushing my teeth, I spot the spit-stained shoes I left on the floor a few days ago. It’s the one that mean driver spat on and looking at it hurts. I kick it aside and turn my focus to getting ready for the day.

I’m not going to let myself think of that man right now. I mean...I’ve only seen him that one time, so it doesn’t matter.

Once I’m done, I get dressed in Elias’s hoodie instead of mine. I think I’ll go crazy if I don’t have his oddly unique scent on me one way or the other. With Lucas’s help, I pack a small bag of clothes and then we’re set to go.

We leave the room together and I find Siren waiting in the hall for us. He’s dressed in white as always. His hair is in a half up, half down hairstyle and Damien is next to him grinning suspiciously.

"Are you ready to leave?" the Luna asks and I nod.

"Let’s go" he says to me, but I hesitate to move at first.

"Uh...can I see Zane for a few minutes?" I ask and Damien’s eyes light up with mischief. His suspicious grin turns even more suspicious and I frown at him in disapproval. "You’ll have five minutes to see him" Siren says.

"That’s too short" I argue.

"Would you rather I say no?"

"N-no" I stutter.

"Lead him down" Siren sighs like a mom who’s tired of arguing with his little kids.

"My pleasure" Damien responds to Siren’s instruction and the man jabs him in the rib with his elbow. "Not you, little devil. You, Lucas" Siren points at Lucas who wiggles a brow at Damien mockingly.

"Damn, Mom. I really wanted to see my crush" Damien complains and his mom rolls his eyes. "Shut up" Siren says.

I really don’t understand Damien’s obsession with Zane. But no matter what it is, I do hope he never gets to have Zane. This man, Chaos Deus, is far too insane for someone as sweet as my best friend.

Their relationship would be a disaster.

"When we get to the door, whatever you do, don’t look Aria in the eyes, okay?" Lucas says softly to me and I nod. Of course I plan to follow his instruction through. I expect nothing less than hate and rudeness from Aria.

I’m sure she and Elias share the same DNA but on a psychological level.

We arrive at the basement and truly, as soon as Aria opens the door, she eyes me down like I’m a pest in her way.

"Why do you guys keep indulging this brat?" Aria asks and Lucas uses his body as a shield to keep my protected from his own twin sister. "Come on, Aria. He just wants to see his best friend" the castrated alpha says and Aria steps out of the way.

"Just...do whatever" she murmurs.

Like the last time I came here to see Zane, I’m told to sit in a room and wait. And as soon as Zane is pulled into the room by Lucas and another guard, I get up to hug him tightly.

"Hi" I whisper and he gives me a tight smile.

"Hi" he replies. He looks nicely cleaned up for a man in the prison of an enemy. But even though he’s clean, he still feels bony as I give him a bear hug.

"I’m going on a trip and I wanted to see you before I’d leave" I say and his face falls. "Are they blackmailing you into doing things?" he asks and I shake my head.

"No. Not at all...they’ve been good to me" I say and he scoffs softly.

"So you’ll keep on defending and protecting them. After all they’ve done to you, Noah?" he asks the question while looking directly into my eyes and I break eye contact.

We already had this conversation before and I don’t want us to do this again. It’s something painful to me. Yes, the Deus are the evil ones, but our city is also the evil place.

It’s stupid of me to admit, but I’m simply choosing one evil over the other.

"Times up" Lucas yells from outside and I give Zane a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Don’t worry about me, Zane. Everything is fine. I love you so much, okay?" I tell him and he responds with a grim nod instead of saying it back.

Well that didn’t go the way I expected.

The two people I love the most are unhappy with me. One is avoiding me and the other is upset with me. I guess I’ll have to fix it when I get back.
