Rage Fist was a little like a demonic martial art.
Powerful, but easy to lose control with.
Only Primeape with a deep foundation could practise Rage Fist.
That, or rely on talent.
If one endured it, they evolved into Annihilape.
If not, they died.
Anyway, during the simulation, Annihilape had told Julian that there was an elder Annihilape in its tribe who guided them.
Although Annihilape had only guided them according to its own feelings, the results were still decent.
Only eight Primeape died before they successfully cultivated the first Annihilape.
Then, through constant experience gathering, the success rate went from one success for every eight deaths to one success for every two deaths by the time Annihilape was captured.
It was not that the method had a problem.
It was that Primeape’s body could not endure it.
According to the old monkey, it simply did not have that fate.
The old monkey used Rage Fist training to screen Primeape.
As Annihilape bloodlines were continuously introduced, the tribe’s evolution success rate would rise.
Julian, however, was using Primeape to meet the conditions needed to practise Rage Fist.
Therefore, building a good foundation was very important.
Returning to the battle, Julian took a deep breath and adjusted his mood before taking out another Poké Ball.
"Croagunk, take the stage."
Croagunk’s gaze was lifeless, yet faint killing intent leaked from him.
Even Cynthia’s Garchomp could not intimidate him at all.
Only one thought existed in Croagunk’s heart.
Fight.
Then try to win.
Without Julian’s command, Croagunk opened his mouth and spat out Poison Sting to probe.
Garchomp merely raised her shark fin.
The Poison Sting struck it with ringing sounds, then fell to the ground and shattered.
Croagunk’s gaze became deep, and purple light lit up at the tips of his palms.
He stepped towards Garchomp.
"Brick Break."
He endured Garchomp’s attack head-on, and while suppressing the intense pain, Croagunk still tried to inject Toxic into Garchomp’s body.
But when Poison Sting hit, Croagunk discovered that he could not break through Garchomp’s defence at all.
If he could not pierce the skin, how could he inject poison?
Cynthia had given him the secret manual for Toxic. How could she not know what Croagunk wanted to do?
"Brick Break!"
With one shark fin, Croagunk spun, leapt, and closed his eyes like a top.
After landing, Croagunk supported his nearly empty body and actually stood up.
Julian shook his head and recalled Croagunk, who was standing motionless but had in fact already fainted and lost the ability to battle.
He respected his Pokémon’s thoughts.
Since Croagunk wanted to try his own tactic, Julian let him.
One failure would give Croagunk a higher perspective.
His eyes would no longer be limited to the Pokémon in the Gym or his hatred towards Reggie.
"Farfetch’d, prepare for battle."
Looking at Garchomp, Farfetch’d tightly gripped the leek in his hands and waited for Julian’s command.
"Quick Attack!"
Holding the leek, Farfetch’d advanced swiftly and struck Garchomp with it.
Without an order, Garchomp raised her shark fin and blocked the leek.
"Brick Break!"
"Dodge!"
Farfetch’d jabbed the leek into the ground, his duck feet sliding across the surface as he tilted his head and avoided Garchomp’s descending shark fin.
Even Garchomp was somewhat surprised.
Has this little duck oiled the bottom of his feet?
So slippery.
"Brick Break!"
Farfetch’d performed a slide tackle, swinging the leek in his hands at Garchomp.
It hit, but had no effect.
"Dragon Tail!"
Garchomp flew up, turned, and whipped the ground with her tail, pressing Farfetch’d, who had tried to slide away again, into the earth.
Julian recalled Farfetch’d.
That slide tackle had been beautiful.
It was not Farfetch’d’s problem.
It was the gap between Trainers.
"Hakamo-o, I’ll leave this to you!"
Hakamo-o entered the field.
Seeing Garchomp, his scales began making faint sounds.
This was excitement.
The desire of dragon blood.
The fighting spirit between dragons.
Cynthia raised an eyebrow.
Facing her Garchomp and still erupting with such intense fighting spirit?
Interesting
"Dragon Dance!"
"Dragon Claw!"
While dancing, Hakamo-o twisted his body and dodged Dragon Claw.
"Dragon Dance!"
Still dancing?
"Dragon Rush!"
The powerful killing intent released by Garchomp locked onto Hakamo-o, but Hakamo-o calmly danced.
Dragon Rush descended, and Hakamo-o once again dodged in an extremely dangerous manner.
"Dragon Dance!"
The spiky-haired guy frowned.
"Why does Julian keep using Dragon Dance and not attack?"
Nina pushed up her glasses.
"His opponent is Cynthia. If he wants to break through Garchomp’s defence, he has to boost Dragon Dance to the absolute limit."
"Only then will he possibly find a tiny chance. Aside from that, there is no second path to victory."
As a data analyst, Nina was very clear on how tough Cynthia’s Garchomp’s hide was.
Even so, Hakamo-o only had the faintest sliver of a chance.
Cynthia smiled.
Placing his hope on Dragon Dance.
Such decisiveness made her admire him.
But Cynthia would not give Julian the chance to fully stack Dragon Dance.
"Draco Meteor!"
"Dragon Dance!"
A golden energy sphere exploded in the sky, turning into meteor chunks that fell.
Hakamo-o was still stacking Dragon Dance.
"Brick Break!"
Garchomp rapidly closed in.
Hakamo-o, dancing for the fifth time, raised his arm and was swept away by the shark fin striking him head-on.
Even in mid-air, Hakamo-o was still moving his body in dance.
After landing, Hakamo-o looked at the scales on his left hand.
They were already badly shattered.
But it did not matter.
Every time his dragon scales shattered, the next scales that grew would be even tougher.
The sixth Dragon Dance.
What astonishing defensive power.
It was already not too far from Garchomp’s.
Of course Hakamo-o with Bulletproof had his most outstanding feature in the physical defence of his dragon scales.
"Dragon Rush!"
This time, Garchomp struck him head-on.
Not only the dragon scales on his right hand, but even his chest showed clear impact wounds.
Julian clenched his fist.
He believed Hakamo-o definitely could do it.
Their eight years of hard work would not be wasted.
"Dragon Dance!"
The trembling Hakamo-o climbed up and began his seventh Dragon Dance.
Cynthia narrowed her eyes slightly.
Hakamo-o’s stamina was already like a candle in the wind.
Even if he completed seven Dragon Dance boosts, what could he do?
"Swords Dance!"
Cynthia decided that today, she would let Julian understand just how powerful Swords Dance Garchomp was.
Four Swords Dance boosts Garchomp against seven Dragon Dance boosts Hakamo-o.
"Dragon Rush!"
Julian grinned and swung his right hand forward.
"Outrage!"
The dragon scale beneath Hakamo-o’s throat burst with dazzling light.
Rampaging Dragon-type power gathered into the scales atop Hakamo-o’s head.
Lowering his head, Hakamo-o began charging.
Garchomp also condensed into blue dragon-shaped flames and dove down.
This collision was like a comet striking the earth.
Julian raised his hand to block the dust and air waves blasted up by the explosion.
When the dust dispersed, Garchomp stood in the centre of the field.
At her feet lay Hakamo-o, both arms stripped of shattered dragon scales that had fallen away.
Julian smiled.
He discovered that Garchomp had been injured by this attack.
Then their efforts had not been wasted.
As for Hakamo-o’s broken dragon scales, there was no need to waste them.
He would collect them and forge a pot, just right for when he went adventuring in Paldea with Cynthia.
This time, Cynthia recalled Garchomp and took the initiative to walk towards Julian, smiling as she extended her hand.
"Well fought."
Julian held Cynthia’s hand.
"Thank you for the praise."
This feeling...
So familiar
And that gentle smile made Julian feel even more familiar.
So much so that he forgot to let go.
Cynthia asked, "Can you let go now?"
"Ah! I... no..."
Julian hurriedly released her hand.
He would not be treated as a pervert by Cynthia, would he?
He could not exactly say that Cynthia felt very similar to a friend of his.
That would sound like an excuse.
