Julian’s opponent was a handsome brown-haired guy with instant-noodle curls.

"Chase, Chase, you’re so handsome! Chase, Chase, you’re the best!"

On the platform behind him, several bright and youthful girls dressed like cheerleaders wildly waved the flowers in their hands.

Bringing this many cheerleaders and acting this flashy...

Who knew how strong he actually was?

The audience in the stands were also discussing this showy fellow.

"He’s got that many pretty girls with him. What gives him the right?"

It really made people envious, jealous, and resentful.

"I know him. Chase from Mata Town. He really is strong. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many pretty girls acting as his cheerleaders."

"Especially his Roselia. Its Petal Dance is very beautiful. Killing intent hidden within beauty. Chase used that move to defeat his enemies and capture girls’ hearts."

"He’s that strong? Then the guy opposite him is unlucky. Speaking of which, who is that guy? Does anyone know him?"

The people nearby all shook their heads.

"With hair that eye-catching, I should have an impression of him, but I don’t. He’s probably a newcomer."

"This newcomer’s luck is bad. He ran into Chase. Hope he doesn’t end up traumatised."

Chase lightly kissed his Poké Ball, then threw it out handsomely.

"I’ll leave this to you, my honey."

So the so-called sweetheart was a Roselia...

At least send out a Roserade before acting like that, all right?

"Hakamo-o, Dragon Dance!"

"Roselia, Petal Dance!"

Roselia spun, releasing petal after petal.

Before Petal Dance reached him, Hakamo-o had already completed his boost.

Julian’s intuition told him that against this Roselia, one Dragon Dance boost would be enough.

"Charge in. Dragon Claw!"

The petals dancing through the sky looked breathtakingly beautiful.

But when they struck Hakamo-o’s dragon scales, they could not shake him in the slightest.

Hakamo-o rushed in front of Roselia and swung Dragon Claw.

The somewhat stunned Roselia was sent flying straight out.

After landing, Roselia had already fainted.

Julian narrowed his eyes slightly.

It was just as he had sensed.

This Roselia looked strong on the outside but was hollow within.

Chase’s eyes widened.

"Roselia! My sweetheart!"

The referee waved the flag.

"Roselia is unable to battle. The winner is Hakamo-o!"

The cheerleaders, who had still been singing and dancing, abruptly fell silent.

Then they began weeping softly.

"Lord Chase... lost."

The audience’s eyes widened.

"Chase actually lost!"

The uncle clicked his tongue in amazement.

"Did you see that? Roselia’s Petal Dance didn’t seem able to break through the opponent’s scale defence!"

"Dragon Claw. Clean and efficient. One-hit knockout. This guy is pretty strong." The girl with glasses pushed her glasses up.

"Hey, friend. He used Dragon Dance, so how can it count as a one-hit knockout?" A contrarian immediately stepped forward.

"No, seriously, is this guy really a newcomer?"

Chase blankly recalled Roselia.

He could not believe that he had gone out in the first round of the Celebration Tournament.

This, this, this...

With his level, how could he lose?

And with just one Dragon Claw, Roselia had lost the ability to battle.

Impossible.

Absolutely impossible.

The referee looked at Chase.

"Contestant Chase, please leave the field."

As for Julian, he had silently recalled Hakamo-o and returned to the players’ area.

There was nothing worth feeling proud of in defeating a Trainer like that.

Maylene ran over excitedly.

"Julian, I won!"

"I’m telling you, the Kricketune on the other side was especially strong, but with the cooperation between me and Riolu, we still easily defeated it!"

Kricketune?

Especially strong?

Fine. As long as one trained consistently, Kricketune could indeed transform into Kricketune Man and write its own legend.

Julian rubbed her head.

"Our Maylene is the best."

"Come on. Let’s go find Nurse Joy and recover our Pokémon’s stamina."

After resting for more than half an hour, the second round finally began.

Not long after Maylene left, Julian also received the staff’s notice to enter the field.

"That’s him. That pink-haired handsome guy. Just now, his Pokémon defeated Chase’s Roselia in one move!"

The guy with spiky hair beside him said disdainfully, "That was just good luck because he landed a critical hit. This time his opponent is Aaron!"

"Is Aaron that impressive?"

"Of course Aaron is impressive. Aaron’s Luxray has won seven tournament championships one after another! It’s not something Chase’s Roselia can compare to!"

The nearby uncle smiled.

"Seven championships. Looks like we’ll get to see a proper battle this time."

Aaron was a muscular, brawny man, but his face was rather ugly.

Julian, meanwhile, was a genuine handsome man.

"Handsome guy, good luck! Beat that gorilla opposite you!"

Gorilla.

Aaron clenched his fist.

He hated pretty boys who had no strength and relied on their faces the most.

It was definitely not because he was ugly, which meant even though he had won many championships, no girls liked him.

"Luxray, teach him a lesson. Thunderbolt!"

"Dragon Dance!"

Hakamo-o danced within the thunder as though Thunderbolt had no effect on him at all.

Aaron grinned, causing the young ladies who saw it to involuntarily cover their eyes.

"I knew it would be like this. Luxray, Wild Charge!"

"Dragon Dance!"

Luxray charged wrapped in lightning.

Unexpectedly, Hakamo-o danced with his body and successfully dodged.

Aaron’s expression changed drastically.

"What!"

Wild Charge was Luxray’s finishing move. He had been waiting for his opponent to reveal an opening after using Dragon Dance.

How had it been dodged?

A sharp glint flashed through Julian’s eyes.

Now!

"Dragon Tail!"

Hakamo-o turned his body, and his tail struck Luxray’s lower back before it could turn around.

Luxray cried out and fell to the ground.

That Dragon Tail made Luxray’s vision go black, nearly cutting off its breath.

Aaron clenched his fist.

"Damn it!"

"Luxray, pull yourself together!"

Responding to its Trainer’s call, Luxray climbed up from the ground.

A shadow appeared before it.

Hakamo-o’s right hand chopped down heavily, striking the very centre of Luxray’s forehead.

Julian said coldly, "Brick Break!"

Inside, Julian was overjoyed.

Was this the tacit understanding between a high-affinity Trainer and his Pokémon?

By the time Hakamo-o’s hand fell, Julian’s command had only just been issued.

Brick Break landed.

Luxray’s eyes widened, and its body trembled.

Its body stiffened, then it collapsed and did not rise.

The referee waved the flag.

"Luxray is unable to battle. The winner is Hakamo-o!"

"Clean and efficient. The first Dragon Dance didn’t avoid Thunderbolt because he was luring the enemy in. Using Dragon Dance to dodge the attack afterwards was truly amazing!"

The uncle nodded in agreement.

"Aaron stupidly thought the other side couldn’t dodge and that he had a chance. He didn’t expect it to be a trap."

"Don’t you think that final Brick Break was the essence? The palm arrived before the command. It fully displayed the tacit understanding between Pokémon and Trainer."

"Do we still not have this Trainer’s information? Two powerful Trainers have already been defeated by him."

A spectator with an ashen face clenched his fist and said, "That guy is Veilstone Gym’s provisional Leader, Julian Veyne! He’s a Gym Trainer. How can he come and participate in a tournament for ordinary Trainers like us?"

This jealous-eyed fellow was Aiden from Eterna City, who had been eliminated in the first round and had tried to frame Veilstone Gym.

"A provisional Leader? Then he isn’t actually a Leader yet. No wonder he came to participate. So he wants to use the tournament to spread his reputation."

"Chase lost in one move, and Aaron lost in two. When will a truly strong Trainer appear and fight this Julian properly?"
