The Safari Zone’s soil was fertile, and even from far away, they could smell the fragrance of Berries drifting out from the grove.
Bewear and Combusken immediately quickened their pace and rushed into the Berry grove. They picked the Berries they liked and began eating.
Bewear was still somewhat restrained. She picked all the Berries she liked first, then sat on the ground and slowly ate them.
Combusken ate whatever looked tasty as he walked, eating his way forward.
One fruit tree was very tall, and the prettiest Berry was growing at the top of the tree.
Combusken directly used Sky Uppercut, jumped up, and picked the Berry.
The corner of Julian’s mouth twitched.
He finally understood Sky Uppercut could also be used to pick fruit.
But after walking around the Berry grove, they still did not see Salamence.
Bagon became a little anxious. He raised his two short arms and loudly called for his mother.
"Bagon!"
His voice travelled far, but there was no response from Salamence.
Julian looked at Combusken’s rounded cheeks and said, "Control yourself. Eat a little less."
Combusken could not help it either.
He did not know why, but over the past few days, his appetite had become even stronger.
Julian had already increased his food portions again and again according to his needs, but Combusken still felt a little hungry.
Combusken even wondered whether something was wrong with his body.
Fortunately, after the extra meals, nothing bad happened to his body.
His stamina and strength had increased.
Only then did Combusken feel reassured enough to keep stuffing food into his large stomach.
Julian had also used Aura to check his body and confirmed that there were no problems, which was why he felt comfortable increasing his meals.
He felt that it was simply because the increase in training volume had driven Combusken’s physical body to improve. His already large appetite had only become even larger.
Julian used Aura and found the only Salamence in the Safari Zone.
They had arrived late.
Salamence had already finished eating and had begun her after-meal warm-up.
Salamence’s opponent was not Milotic, but a Poliwrath.
Through Aura, Julian could tell that this Poliwrath was in excellent condition.
His body was well trained, and the Water and Fighting-type energy inside him flowed steadily.
He was clearly a strong battler by Safari Zone standards.
No wonder he dared to pick a fight with Salamence.
Julian crouched down and rubbed Bagon’s sturdy head.
"Come on. I found where your mother is."
From a distance, they could already see Salamence circling in the sky.
Every now and then, she spat a stream of scorching flames downwards.
Using Flamethrower against Poliwrath.
This Salamence was purely using Poliwrath to help digest her food.
Poliwrath actually knew that he was not Salamence’s opponent.
But last time, during Salamence and Milotic’s battle, one of Salamence’s Dragon Pulses had failed to hit Milotic.
Instead, the Poliwrath clan living at the edge of the lake had been hit, and a large group of Poliwag and Poliwhirl had been blasted away.
Poliwrath wanted Salamence to understand that their Poliwag line was not easy to bully!
He puffed out his chest and fired an Ice Beam into the sky.
Salamence flapped her wings and avoided it, then hit Poliwrath with Flamethrower.
Poliwrath was scorched black and left looking rather miserable.
Bagon ran over and happily shouted at Salamence.
Salamence turned her head and saw that her silly son had come back to see her.
She flapped her wings and dove down, then swept Poliwrath into the lake with one swing of her tail.
She was done playing.
Then she landed beside Bagon, wrapped him up with her tail, and tossed him into the sky.
Then she caught him with her tail and tossed him up again.
Then caught him again...
No, she missed!
Salamence’s tail instantly stiffened.
It had been too long since she last caught her son.
Her skills had grown rusty.
Bagon fell headfirst and plunged into the relatively soft mud of the marsh.
Bagon kicked his little legs around and pulled himself out of the ground.
Salamence moved closer to take a look.
Her silly son had not been damaged.
She wrapped Bagon with her tail again and swung him around with relief.
It seemed that giving Bagon to Julian had not been completely useless.
At the very least, his body had become much tougher.
Poliwrath swam ashore from the lake and angrily waved his arms at Salamence.
Salamence completely ignored him.
In a fit of anger, Poliwrath shot a Water Gun at Salamence.
It did not hit Salamence.
Instead, it hit Bagon, who was swinging through the air.
The Water Gun pushed Bagon along and knocked into Combusken, who was still holding a pile of Berries and eating.
Combusken had only been focused on eating, and after Bagon crashed into him, the Berries scattered all over the ground.
And who did not know that Bagon was the beloved little mascot of Veilstone Gym?
Their silly little brother had been hit by Poliwrath’s Water Gun!
More importantly, Combusken had been eating happily, and after that collision, his Berries had rolled everywhere.
Fortunately, they were not ruined. He could still pick them up, wash them, and eat them.
Otherwise, Combusken would have fought Poliwrath on the spot.
Salamence glared at Poliwrath and fired a Dragon Pulse at him.
Poliwrath cartwheeled to the side and avoided Dragon Pulse.
Then he fired Ice Beam at Salamence, and Salamence flapped her wings to rise into the air.
The Ice Beam continued forward and directly froze Combusken, who had been picking up Berries.
Julian had seen it happen.
He had deliberately not warned Combusken.
Since Combusken had only cared about picking up Berries, he deserved to suffer a little.
Flames rose from Combusken’s body, melting the ice.
Combusken did not feel much resentment over being accidentally hit by Ice Beam.
But after being frozen by Ice Beam, the Berries no longer tasted good!
Ruining food was unforgivable!
Especially the large, red Berry that Combusken had picked with Sky Uppercut. He had planned to save it for last.
Gone!
It’s all gone!
Combusken’s eyes immediately reddened.
"Combusken!"
Salamence flapped her wings and looked back at Combusken.
She did not understand why Combusken had suddenly become so angry.
But if Combusken wanted to fight Poliwrath, then since Poliwrath was not a particularly strong opponent anyway, Salamence did not mind handing him over.
Combusken rushed forward and waved at Poliwrath.
Poliwrath directly ignored Combusken and continued firing Ice Beam at Salamence in the air.
Combusken’s brows rose.
He swung his fist and stepped forward, punching Poliwrath squarely in the abdomen.
Poliwrath’s eyes instantly widened.
He actually had this much strength?
Poliwrath was sent flying and plunged headfirst into the lake.
Combusken looked back painfully at the Berries on the ground.
Damn Poliwrath!
At that moment, a thick water column gathered on the surface of the lake and surged towards Combusken.
Julian said, "Combusken, dodge quickly."
Combusken came back to himself, pushed off the ground, and narrowly avoided the Hydro Pump.
But the remaining intact Berries were all smashed apart by Hydro Pump.
Poliwrath rushed out of the lake, his fist wrapped in flowing water as he charged towards Combusken.
Julian raised an eyebrow.
This was the first time he had seen a Pokémon use Waterfall like this.
Sure enough, there were outstanding battlers everywhere.
Combusken turned sideways and avoided Poliwrath’s fist.
Lightning gathered around his claws, and he struck Poliwrath’s abdomen hard.
After being hit by Thunder Punch, Poliwrath showed a pained expression.
But he still swung his palm and slapped Combusken across the face, sending him flying.
Combusken landed, his eyes filled with anger as he looked at Poliwrath.
