After treating Toxicroak, Julian returned to the back garden and found both Bewear and Miraidon deep in thought.
Julian jumped over to Miraidon’s side and rubbed his head.
"Bewear lost and is thinking about how to improve. What are you thinking about?"
Miraidon lowered his head in shame and swept his claws lightly across the ground without saying anything.
Even if he did not speak, Julian could more or less guess what he was thinking.
"It isn’t too late to start improving now. Your foundation is excellent. As long as you work hard, catching up to the top student in class is only a matter of time."
Miraidon nodded.
From today onwards, he would work hard.
He would fight!
Bewear drank a cup of honey milk Kai handed her and instantly felt as if she had recovered to full health.
"Bewear~"
Julian patted Miraidon.
"Bewear is ready. Go train. I believe in you. You can definitely do it."
He nodded, swept his tail, and flew into the sky.
Bewear moved her arms and legs, then tried using Bulk Up for the first time during training.
Miraidon’s eyes widened.
Bewear, what are you doing?
You’re fighting me and you still want to use Bulk Up?
Miraidon immediately spat out a Dragon Breath, interrupting Bewear’s unnecessary idea.
Then, wrapped in lightning, he charged straight at her.
Since he had decided to pursue progress, he would follow through properly.
He would rush in and clash with Bewear head-on!
Bagon was even more excited than if he were the one battling. At the edge of the field, he raised both hands and bounced up and down in a way that made everyone want to laugh.
Then his feet slipped, and he rolled backwards several times.
Eevee sighed, ran over, and used his head to nudge his little brother back upright.
Seeing Miraidon so serious, Bewear could not help leaping forward and punching with all her strength.
The punch landed squarely on Miraidon’s head.
Miraidon felt as if electricity had run through his entire body, trembling from head to tail.
The two sides separated, and Miraidon immediately retreated high into the air.
He was a little afraid of going back down to clash with Bewear.
Julian shook his head.
This Miraidon could not even keep his passion burning for three minutes.
Julian immediately encouraged him.
"Miraidon, do you want to stay at your current level forever?"
Bagon jumped in place and shouted up at Miraidon, cheering him on.
Miraidon narrowed his eyes, and his gaze sharpened again.
That’s right
I can’t let Bagon look down on me!
If one day he really became unable to beat even Bagon, what kind of Iron Serpent would he be?
Miraidon swept his tail, and brilliant blue-silver electricity lit up across his body.
Lightning Charge!
Bewear swung her fist, terrifying strength condensing.
Mega Punch!
If this had been before, Bewear would have relied purely on brute strength to fight Miraidon.
But now, she had already begun paying attention to punching technique.
One pursued technique.
The other craved strength.
Bewear and Miraidon immediately fought until the entire back garden shook.
The huge commotion made Gallade and the others run out curiously to watch.
Only Combusken, that gluttonous fellow, refused to put down the rice bowl in his hands even while watching the excitement.
When everyone saw Miraidon actually clashing head-on with Bewear without backing down, they all rubbed their eyes at the same time, wondering whether they had seen wrong.
Is this really Miraidon?
That same Miraidon who spent all day saying that battles should be fought with brains?
There had actually come a day when he cast aside his distracting thoughts and focused fully on releasing the power inside him.
It was not easy.
The most relieved was Hisuian Goodra. She even wiped the corner of her eye.
She was very touched.
She felt that Miraidon had finally become part of their team.
Before, Miraidon had always remained separate from the rest. In truth, that was a sign that he had not fully regarded himself as one of them.
Julian had chosen gradual influence, while she hoped to use training to help him identify more with everyone.
Her method had actually produced some effect.
She had offered him sincerity. How could Miraidon possibly remain unmoved?
After all, back then, Miraidon had ambushed her and beaten her so badly.
Yet Goodra had not complained about him at all.
When Julian arranged for Miraidon to train with her, he had even suspected that Julian wanted to let her vent her anger.
In the end, Goodra had truly supervised his training seriously.
She had not been taking revenge.
This battle lasted almost an hour before finally stopping.
Both sides obtained what they wanted and felt that the opponent Julian had assigned to them was indeed extremely suitable.
Hearing the commotion end, the Pokémon who had gone back to eat halfway through quickly came out again.
Their fists and feet were also itching for battle.
Annihilape and Gallade, Kommo-o and Hisuian Goodra, Sirfetch’d and Gengar — all of them happily began sparring.
Electabuzz blinked.
Because Combusken had been dragged away for intensified training today, his sparring partner was gone!
Electabuzz walked to Julian’s side and silently stared at him.
Either arrange special training for me too, or arrange an opponent!
Julian scratched his head.
He had never been an Electabuzz before. How was he supposed to design special training?
As for opponents...
Eevee, Bagon, or Magikarp?
Even if the three were added together, Julian felt they still would not be enough for Electabuzz to fight.
In the end, Julian pointed at himself.
"How about I train with you?"
Cold sweat immediately flowed down Electabuzz’s forehead.
He was not arrogant enough to think he could battle Julian.
Kai raised his hand excitedly.
"Master, let me and Graveler do it!"
That worked.
Julian patted Kai.
"Then I’ll leave it to you."
Julian returned to the house to prepare for the afternoon Gym battles...
Gym battles!
How had he forgotten the most important thing, the Gym battles?
He had been infected by the atmosphere of Toxicroak versus Bewear and Bewear versus Miraidon, and had forgotten there were still battles scheduled in the afternoon...
Surely he could not use Combusken and Toxicroak to handle all five matches?
Julian hurriedly rushed back into the garden.
"Sirfetch’d, Gengar, Annihilape, Gallade, stop for a moment. Gengar, train with Annihilape."
"Sirfetch’d, Gallade, you’ll participate in the afternoon Gym battles. You two can just spar in swordsmanship and control your stamina consumption."
Julian had not forgotten that he still needed to bring them to participate in the Battle at the Summit of Coronet.
Annihilape felt somewhat helpless.
Was he supposed to box with a shadow?
Gengar knew Shadow Punch and was quite good at it, but Gengar was not the type to trade solid blows.
Battling Gengar was a very novel experience for Annihilape.
But he always felt it was not satisfying enough.
The feeling of impact was not real enough.
The opponent had to be heavy enough for the punches to feel good.
Fighting Gengar was like eating a feast created by an illusion.
His brain and stomach could spend the whole night comparing accounts and still fail to make them match.
But Annihilape had no choice.
Gengar grinned and circled Annihilape once.
Gengar actually quite liked boxing with Annihilape.
He could use Shadow Punch and fight Annihilape all day.
Under Julian’s training, Gengar’s movements had become increasingly ghostly.
He moved in and out of shadows more and more freely, so not only did Annihilape lack the feeling of impact, he also could not land a hit.
Even in this bright environment, Gengar could use the sun to create shadows and toy with Annihilape until he spun in circles.
Annihilape could only rage helplessly.
He also knew that this was one of his weaknesses.
Although he had gained the Ghost type, his development of it was still insufficient.
So he would fight.
He would learn more from Gengar about how to use Ghost Energy.
