[Simulation ended. Calculating rewards for the host]
Before Julian could even feel regret over not seeing what those two stones were, the settlement results for this simulation appeared.
[Reward calculation complete]
[Simulation evaluation: A]
As expected, it was only an A.
The score had probably dropped because Floette had died.
But A-rank was still not bad.
After fully experiencing the evolution process from Torchic to Blaziken, Julian now had a clear understanding of Combusken’s weaknesses.
By improving Combusken’s training plan, Julian was confident he could double his strength within a month.
[A-rank evaluation. Attribute rewards available: Fire-type affinity increased by 0.5; Blaziken’s jumping ability]
Blaziken’s jumping ability!
After personally experiencing it, Julian had become completely fascinated by that feeling of almost flying.
With such powerful legs, it was no wonder Blaziken’s Blaze Kick was so exceptional.
Unfortunately, the simulation had ended before Julian could properly enjoy using Blaze Kick.
Otherwise, once Combusken evolved, Julian would already have a complete training plan for how to raise Blaziken.
Next came the most exciting part.
Item rewards.
Those two stones.
Open!
[Item rewards available: Key Stone; Blazikenite]
As Julian had guessed, the stones were connected to Blaziken’s Mega Evolution.
He took out the Key Stone and Blazikenite, then released his Aura to study them.
The Blazikenite reacted first.
Deep inside the stone, Julian sensed a fierce, concentrated Fire-type presence. It was not a living consciousness, but it carried the shape of one. A powerful impression of what Blaziken could become when its hidden potential was drawn out.
The Key Stone felt different.
Its energy was purer and more neutral, like a bridge waiting to be connected. It did not belong to Blaziken specifically. Instead, it seemed designed to link the Trainer, the Pokémon, and the Mega Stone together.
Julian gradually understood.
The Blazikenite contained the path.
The Key Stone created the connection.
And Blaziken itself was the one that had to bear the transformation.
Only when the three resonated together could Mega Evolution truly be achieved.
This was not a power that could be forced.
Mega Evolution was not simply a matter of giving a Pokémon a stone and flooding it with energy. The Key Stone and Mega Stone created a resonance, but the Pokémon still had to bear the sudden release of power from deep within its body.
If its foundation was weak, that power would not become strength.
It would become a burden.
Julian could sense it clearly through Aura. Mega Evolution placed an intense strain on the Pokémon’s body and spirit. Without enough training, control, and trust in its Trainer, the Pokémon would struggle to stabilise the transformation.
That was why the bond between Trainer and Pokémon mattered.
It was not some empty slogan.
A strong bond allowed the Trainer’s will and the Pokémon’s will to align at the moment of transformation. The Pokémon trusted the Trainer’s command, and the Trainer helped guide that overwhelming power instead of letting it run wild.
Strength was necessary.
Training was necessary.
But without trust, Mega Evolution would only place a dangerous burden on the Pokémon.
[System, receive Blaziken’s jumping ability]
In an instant, Julian felt a tingling numbness spread through his spine and legs.
The itch seemed to come from his bone marrow, making him want to scratch at it.
But Julian knew this was his tendons and bones growing to adapt.
There was no way to avoid it.
He could only endure.
Fortunately, the growth process lasted only two hours.
The main reason was that the talents he had received before had already greatly transformed his body.
There were not many areas that Blaziken’s jumping still needed to optimise.
At least Julian could finally get a peaceful night’s sleep.
...
Early morning.
Combusken was humming a little tune while enjoying his generous breakfast.
Julian walked over to his side and smiled.
"Combusken, I’ve revised your training plan."
"A lot of it will be a little difficult for your current physical strength, but I believe you can overcome it."
"If you strictly follow the training plan, your strength will at least double. Of course, your snacks will increase according to your training progress as well."
Hearing that Julian was going to increase his snack portion, Combusken became very happy.
"Combusken!"
No matter how hard the training was, Combusken believed he could endure it!
It had been a long time since Julian had voluntarily increased his snacks.
Usually, Combusken relied on his own efforts to obtain more snacks.
For example, sneaking out of his Poké Ball in the middle of the night to steal snacks.
Only to be mistaken for a thief by Kai and captured on the spot!
Toxicroak smiled and could not help shaking his head.
Combusken was still too young.
A training method that made Julian voluntarily offer him more treats— how could it possibly be simple?
After hearing the contents of the training plan, Combusken froze where he stood.
The Pokémon food in his hands suddenly stopped smelling delicious.
Was this training plan really something a Combusken could complete?
Julian blinked.
He had arranged the training intensity according to his own time as Combusken during the simulation.
Because the castle’s conditions had been limited, he had not had the same convenience as Combusken did now.
Compared to what Julian had gone through, Combusken’s training plan was already much easier.
Back then, when did Julian have conditions this good?
He even had snacks to eat.
Julian had almost failed to get enough food.
Julian patted Combusken’s shoulder.
"You don’t need to appear in today’s Gym challenges. Focus on adapting to the new training plan."
"Kai, I printed a copy of Combusken’s training plan. Take it and help Combusken get used to the contents."
Kai was holding a drumstick.
"Don’t worry, Master. Leave it to me!"
Julian nodded.
You could always trust Kai!
Julian thought of something.
"Don’t look at Combusken’s training and think it seems interesting, then try following it yourself. While I was away these past few days, your training intensity has already gone a little over the limit."
"You’re only twelve. You’ve only just reached 1.6 metres. You don’t want to stay 1.6 metres tall for the rest of your life, do you?"
Kai imagined himself reaching twenty years old and still being only 1.6 metres tall, and he could not help shivering.
"Master, save me!"
Julian pointed towards the kitchen.
"The medicine for you is on the stove. Once it boils down to one bowl of water, take the pot off."
"Drink it after the medicine cools. At noon and at night, use the same pot to boil it again. Tomorrow, switch to new herbs and berries and drink it for a week."
"That should make up for your depletion. Remember to control your training intensity during this period."
Kai hurriedly nodded.
"Yes, Master!"
After breakfast, Julian went to the training room to test his legs.
Kai blinked.
"Master, your kicks are even better than Hitmonlee’s!"
Julian rubbed his chin.
"I’ll think about it later and see whether I can use training to improve the flexibility and toughness of your legs."
Last night, Julian had used Aura to clearly sense the entire growth process in his legs.
If he stimulated Kai’s legs with Aura, then combined it with training and healing, there was a chance of achieving half the effect.
The main reason was that Kai trained hard. Otherwise, even half the effect would be impossible.
One of the points in the Eight Gates was located in the legs.
Perhaps...
No.
At least wait until Kai was fifteen.
The current Kai was still not mature enough.
Julian went to receive the challengers, while Combusken and Kai went to the back garden and began training according to the new method.
With Kai there, there really was no chance to slack off.
Combusken’s heart was crying.
Kai shouted, "Combusken, have you forgotten the snacks you can eat to your heart’s content after training?"
Flames burned in Combusken’s eyes.
He could not fall here.
My unlimited snacks!
They’re waiting for me!
