For these twenty hours, Darius went straight to the flying fortress’s gym to train his body.
Julian circulated the Fighting energy throughout his body, doing his best to improve his control.
Maylene practised the her martial arts from the Scroll of Darkness, hoping to calm her heart.
This would be the first time she consciously met her mother.
A complicated mix of emotions swirled in her.
Cynthia... was still trying to practise Headlong Rush with Garchomp.
Even Caitlin was meditating with Mewtwo.
Twenty hours passed quickly.
The Alola region was made up of four large islands and countless smaller islands.
The Tapu lived on these four islands, each guarding one area.
After leaving the flying fortress, Julian said to Cynthia, "The Tapu are all Fairy-type Pokémon. Dragon-type moves won’t work on them considering their strength."
Cynthia nodded.
"I know. I’ve also studied this type that only became widely recognised after emerging from Kalos in the past couple of years."
Type matchups definitely existed, but they were not as absolute as the games made them look.
Fairy-type Pokémon were naturally resistant to Dragon-type energy. Under normal circumstances, a Dragon-type move would fail to affect them.
But that did not mean the rule could never be broken.
If the difference in strength was overwhelming enough, the stronger Pokémon could force its power through that so-called immunity. The Dragon-type energy might be suppressed, distorted, or weakened, but the sheer force behind it would still crash through.
It was like Lance’s Dragonite using a Dragon-type move against a Cleffa.
In game terms, Cleffa was immune.
In reality, if Dragonite’s power was dozens or even hundreds of times greater, Cleffa would not be able to stand there unharmed just because of a type matchup. The difference in strength would be too vast.
The island guardians were Legendary Pokémon. They were not weak opponents relying only on type advantage. Against Cynthia’s Garchomp, the difference in strength was not large enough to ignore their Fairy-type immunity.
So Dragon-type moves would be a poor choice there.
Against the Tapu, Garchomp needed other methods. Its strength, speed, experience, and non-Dragon moves would matter far more than trying to brute-force Dragon energy through an immunity.
Cynthia was equally confident.
"Even without Dragon-type moves, after gaining Dragon Dance, Garchomp’s power is terrifying."
Darius was somewhat impatient.
"Which island are we going to now? Where is Tapu Fini?"
Julian hurriedly made him control himself a little.
"The island guardians are the faith of the Alolan people. What we’re planning to do is deeply disrespectful!"
"Don’t rush. We do this quietly. No shouting."
Darach smiled and said, "I found some information online. The island we need to go to is called Poni Island, but without guidance from a local, I’m afraid it will be very difficult to meet this island guardian."
Darius started to panic.
"Then what do we do now?"
Julian narrowed his eyes slightly.
"For now, we can only find an Alolan who is able to meet Tapu Fini."
Darach nodded in agreement.
"In Alola, there is a tradition called the island challenge. Trainers undergo trials set by the island kahunas and island guardians."
"Through that, they can obtain a unique power from Alola."
Julian blinked.
Darach had really found a lot of information online.
Caitlin asked curiously, "Where did you get that information?"
He smiled slightly.
"When I travelled around the world in the past, I met a friend from Alola."
"He told me this information. He also told me that it would be best to meet the island guardians through proper channels."
"The island guardians have very unpredictable tempers. If you can make them happy, seeing someone who has passed away is not difficult."
Darius’s expression turned a little strange.
"Surely I’m not supposed to take part in this island challenge at my age?"
Darach shook his head.
"The island challenge has no age or regional restrictions. As long as you gain the recognition of an island kahuna or an island guardian, you can participate."
Julian had known the whole matter might be complicated.
That was why he had not set a reopening date for Veilstone Gym.
"How about this? Dad, take Maylene and try to have Maylene take part in the island challenge on Melemele Island."
"Cynthia and I will go straight to Poni Island and take part in the island challenge there."
Caitlin thought for a moment.
"Among the island guardians, Tapu Lele is Psychic type. I’ll go to Akala Island, where Tapu Lele is!"
"If there’s a problem, I’ll help hold Tapu Lele back."
Julian smiled.
"Then I’ll leave that to you."
Julian looked at Mewtwo.
"Mewtwo, I’ll have to ask you to go to Akala Island with Caitlin."
Mewtwo nodded.
"No problem. I also want to see how powerful Tapu Lele, another Psychic-type, truly is."
Julian suddenly thought of how Tapu Lele was skilled at healing.
He wondered whether Tapu Lele could resolve Mewtwo’s genetic issues.
Julian had used Aura to help regulate his body.
He had only found a few minor issues, and after some adjustment, they were no longer serious.
But since Mewtwo’s body had experienced problems in the movie, they had to take precautions in advance!
It was just that his body was currently in excellent condition. Julian could not exactly say to Mewtwo, your body will have problems in the future, right?
He could only take things one step at a time.
Perhaps if he regularly used Aura to help, Mewtwo might not develop issues at all.
Julian and Cynthia headed to the pier to take a ship to Poni Island.
While waiting for the ship, a blond little boy ran over.
"Dad, Mum, look! Such pretty people!"
A handsome blond man smiled and said, "Gladion, you call boys handsome. Pretty is for girls."
Speaking of which, Gladion’s situation was somewhat similar to Julian’s.
When Lillie was still young, Mohn had disappeared into an Ultra Wormhole because of an experiment.
Lusamine had also become obsessive, leaving Gladion to take care of his younger sister.
Julian had not expected to meet their family of four here.
In the arms of a beautiful blonde woman was a little girl.
Julian turned his head.
"Hello. We’re tourists from another region. We heard that Alola has a Legendary Pokémon that can let people see deceased loved ones."
"May I ask if that’s true?"
Mohn nodded.
"That’s right. Tapu Fini does indeed have the ability to let people see deceased loved ones within thick mist. But meeting Tapu Fini is not easy."
Cynthia asked, "We plan to try meeting Tapu Fini through the island challenge. Would that method work?"
Gladion’s eyes revealed admiration.
"Are you strong enough to pass the island challenge and meet Tapu Fini?"
"Mum said Tapu Fini is the most mysterious of the four island guardians!"
Julian looked at Lusamine.
"Madam, could you give us some advice? There is a loved one I must see."
Looking at Julian’s sincere eyes, Lusamine rubbed her cheek against Lillie’s.
"Lillie, shall we help them?"
She responded in a soft, childish voice, "Yes!"
