Miraidon transformed into brilliant golden lightning.
Unexpectedly, the instant he collided with the black shadow, the shadow split apart by itself, becoming seven or eight smaller shadows that scattered through the cave.
One by one, crimson eyes appeared as they released Confuse Ray towards Julian’s Pokémon.
"Discharge!"
Miraidon immediately released electric currents, striking the black shadows on the cave walls.
Gengar also condensed Shadow Ball and fired it at one of the shadows.
The shadow was actually scattered again, splitting into seven or eight even smaller shadows.
Five or six crimson points of light appeared on each shadow.
Were those supposed to be the evil spirit’s eyes?
Julian could not quite understand what was happening with this evil spirit.
Why did it split itself apart the moment it was lightly hit?
Miraidon and Gengar’s attacks had indeed dispersed plenty of the shadows.
But their power was not so great that they should have been able to shatter the shadows like that.
Julian frowned slightly.
Since the evil spirit was actively scattering itself, it definitely had another intention.
Right now, he had to figure out what this thing actually was.
Was it a Pokémon?
A ghost?
Or the ghost of a Pokémon?
No matter what the evil spirit wanted to do, Julian had already made preparations outside the cave.
It could not escape.
Gallade swung his elbow blades and used Night Slash, cutting one of the evil spirits apart.
This time, the evil spirit did not split into even smaller individuals.
Instead, it directly dissipated.
The life force it contained turned into white points of light and flew out of the cave, heading towards the location of its true owner.
Seeing one of their companions truly killed, all the scattered evil spirits violently released red Confuse Ray.
Julian immediately released Aura and used a barrier to isolate the power of Confuse Ray.
Although Confuse Ray did not pull Julian’s group into an illusion, it still dazed them.
The black shadows immediately seized the chance and rushed out of the cave all at once.
After these long tongue-like shadows charged out of the cave...
They saw a group of Pokémon arranged in a semicircle, all watching them with sharp eyes and faint smiles.
The evil spirits froze somewhat dumbly in mid-air.
Hakamo-o, Primeape, Sirfetch’d, Toxicroak, Goodra, Electabuzz, and Combusken.
As for Eevee and Bagon, the two little ones were not allowed out to join the fun.
When Julian chased out of the cave with three Pokémon, the evil spirits were instantly surrounded.
The tangled mass of evil spirits spun back and forth in the air.
Julian said calmly, "Evil spirit, show your true form."
The evil spirit suddenly spat out dense black waves.
"Gallade, Sacred Sword. Goodra, Flash Cannon!"
He only let two Pokémon attack to avoid giving the evil spirit a chance to escape through the shockwaves of the explosion.
Sure enough...
The attacks struck Dark Pulse, and the explosion kicked up dust. The evil spirit immediately fused into a long snake-like shape and tried to flee.
Primeape leapt into the air.
Rage Fist!
One punch, and explosive Ghost power directly scattered the evil spirit.
Julian’s eyes moved, and his Aura quickly scanned the scene.
There were a total of one hundred and seven evil spirits!
Adding the one Gallade had cut apart earlier...
Julian shouted, "Spiritomb, show your true form!"
After Julian exposed its identity, the evil spirit actually began to fuse.
It became a mass of purple cyclone energy, dotted with dim green lights.
The surrounding purple cyclone was also a dull grey-purple.
And the Odd Keystone that restricted Spiritomb was actually missing!
The feedback from Aura was strange.
Although there was life force, it had not fused together with Spiritomb.
This was...
A dead Spiritomb!
Ghost-type Pokémon were actually living beings too.
After Spiritomb died, it could break free from the restraints of the Odd Keystone.
Spiritomb’s ghost had completely returned to its true nature.
The Odd Keystone could seal Spiritomb because Spiritomb was a Pokémon born from the fusion of one hundred and eight souls.
But the clay jar the villagers had dug out had sealed a dead Spiritomb.
If it absorbed enough life force, perhaps Spiritomb could revive.
But that was no reason for Spiritomb’s ghost to absorb the villagers’ life force.
"Spiritomb, return the villagers’ life force!"
Spiritomb flew angrily through the air.
"Damned human! Why must you interfere with us?"
"After being sealed for so long, we finally saw the light of day again. We refuse to accept this!"
"If we eat them, we can revive!"
The ghost of Spiritomb had only just escaped, and its power had already been worn down almost completely.
Moreover, the power of a ghost was naturally much weaker than when it was alive.
Otherwise, Spiritomb’s ghost would not have absorbed life force the moment it escaped, trying to revive itself.
Julian calmly waved his hand.
"Since you’re unwilling to spit out the life force, don’t blame me for being impolite."
"Combusken, Fire Punch. Electabuzz, Thunder Punch!"
Fighting a ghost was an extremely rare experience.
Spiritomb’s ghost released Night Shade, knocking Combusken and Electabuzz back.
"Sirfetch’d, Throat Chop. Toxicroak, Sucker Punch!"
Spiritomb’s ghost flew into the sky and condensed two Shadow Balls, firing them at Sirfetch’d and Toxicroak.
It let out an enraged roar.
"Damned human!"
Julian remained unmoved.
"Hakamo-o, Dragon Pulse. Miraidon, Thunderbolt."
The whole time, Spiritomb’s ghost had been trapped in the encirclement, with only two Pokémon attacking at once.
Meanwhile, Gengar held Shadow Punch in his hand, waiting for Spiritomb’s ghost to flee so he could punch it back.
Spiritomb’s ghost felt deeply wronged.
Facing the attacks of Julian’s group of Pokémon, one or two souls would be blasted apart each time, forcing it to spit out the life force it had absorbed.
Surrounded in the middle and kicked around, Spiritomb’s ghost continued shrinking.
Everyone was trying their hardest to live.
Yet even after they tried this hard, Spiritomb’s ghost was still alive!
They did not completely destroy Spiritomb’s ghost.
What remained was its core ghostly face.
Roughly twenty souls were left.
They were all relatively resilient souls. Otherwise, they could not have lasted until now.
At that moment, the middle-aged man finally arrived at the cave, clutching Honchkrow’s claws.
He was startled.
"This is... Spiritomb’s ghost?"
The middle-aged man’s arrival allowed Spiritomb’s ghost to see hope.
Spiritomb’s ghost abruptly spat out black smoke, then rushed at the middle-aged man, who had only just landed, at the fastest speed possible.
It wanted to possess this person’s body and force that demon who kept making Pokémon gang up on it to stop!
But Primeape suddenly appeared in front of the middle-aged man.
Under Spiritomb’s ghost’s shocked gaze, Primeape abruptly threw a punch.
A Rage Fist close to its limit completely scattered Spiritomb’s ghost.
The villagers’ life force flew back towards the village, but the scattered souls of Spiritomb’s ghost left Primeape frozen in place.
The red anger that originally covered Primeape’s body grew dim as it rose and drifted, faintly tinged with grey.
Julian hurried forward and injected Aura into Primeape’s body.
Fortunately, Primeape was fine.
Not only that, through the process of destroying Spiritomb’s ghost, Primeape had gained a deeper understanding of the soul.
Gengar suddenly flew to Julian’s side, seemingly waving his fists and beating something up.
After several minutes of punching, Gengar finally stopped swinging his fists.
Julian frowned slightly.
As Gengar stopped punching, he did indeed feel that the surrounding air had become much more peaceful.
Julian immediately asked Gengar what happened.
Gengar proudly raised his head.
"Gengar!"
Julian’s eyes lit up.
So Spiritomb’s ghost had only been beaten until it lost all its power. It had not completely dispersed.
It was just that without power, ordinary humans and Pokémon could no longer see them.
Only Ghost Pokémon like Gengar, who had delved deeply enough into their Ghost typing, could see these powerless wandering souls.
