Julian did not require Eevee and Bagon to master new moves.
The focus was to strengthen their bodies and improve their proficiency with the moves they already knew.
Tackle, Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Double Team, and Dig.
The moves Eevee currently knew were basically enough to support his battles.
Unexpectedly, after Eevee used the five moves Julian knew about, he opened his mouth and condensed a purple energy ball.
Julian blinked.
Shadow Ball?
When had Eevee learned Shadow Ball?
Gengar, who was sparring with Toxicroak, flew over to Eevee with a mischievous grin.
He happily patted Eevee’s little head to encourage him.
Julian raised an eyebrow and asked, "Gengar, did you teach Eevee how to use Shadow Ball?"
Gengar nodded.
"Gengar~"
However, Gengar had merely casually told Eevee some of the feeling he had when using Shadow Ball, and demonstrated it for him a few times.
He had not expected Eevee to actually learn it.
Julian smiled.
It seemed Eevee’s talent was also quite good.
"Eevee, use Shadow Ball again."
Eevee began condensing Shadow Ball, but Julian discovered that the way he gathered the move was somewhat awkward.
It slowed down the speed at which Eevee formed Shadow Ball.
"You were probably ambushed and defeated by Murkrow while condensing Shadow Ball, weren’t you?"
Eevee nodded repeatedly.
"Eevee!"
He looked at Julian with eager eyes, wanting to know whether there was a solution.
If it was Gengar who had taught Eevee how to use Shadow Ball, then Julian really did know how to improve it.
Julian smiled and explained, "Eevee, your body structure is different from Gengar’s. You can’t copy Gengar’s method exactly when using Shadow Ball."
Julian tapped two points on Eevee’s body, his lower abdomen and forehead.
"Try drawing energy from your lower abdomen, then gathering it at your forehead."
Eevee tried Julian’s method and discovered that it really was much smoother.
He jumped around in delight.
"Eevee!"
Once Eevee became proficient enough with Shadow Ball, he would go find Murkrow and avenge himself!
But training was truly exhausting.
After using Shadow Ball only five times, Eevee already felt tired.
Julian smiled and said, "Today is your first day of training. If you feel tired, you can rest now."
Eevee shook his head.
Hakamo-o had once told him that training only counted if you trained until you were drained. That was how the results would be good!
As long as he thought of defeating Murkrow, Eevee suddenly felt a new strength surge through his body, supporting him as he continued using Shadow Ball.
Julian nodded appreciatively.
Talent, and perseverance too, Eevee’s future will be bright too
On the other hand, Miraidon was still wasting his talent.
It was training!
Goodra was not going to use Flash Cannon at full power.
With Miraidon’s body, he could completely withstand Goodra’s Flash Cannon.
It would hurt a little, but his body would also be tempered and become sturdier.
What use was strength gained from Rare Candy?
Who could that beat?
It was like fitness. If you only ate protein powder and did not exercise, what increased would be fat, not muscle.
For Pokémon, eating and training were equally important.
Exactly how much each mattered depended on individual talent.
Julian walked to Miraidon’s side and pointed at Bagon, who was charging headfirst at Electabuzz, being thrown away, climbing up, then continuing to charge.
"Look for yourself. Is Bagon’s training not hard? He can endure it. Can’t you?"
Both were Dragon types. Bagon’s attitude truly touched Miraidon.
Miraidon gritted his teeth and let out a loud roar.
"Miraidon!"
His eyes were resolute as he looked at Goodra.
Come on!
If I die, then I’ll die!
Then Goodra nodded and fired a brilliant metallic beam of light.
"Miraidon!"
Miraidon’s scream rang across the entire back garden of Veilstone Gym.
Pain! Too painful!
After landing, however, Miraidon did not play tricks like before.
He immediately climbed up and shouted for Goodra to do it again.
...
A new morning.
Another day full of energy.
To challenge Primeape as soon as possible, Phil had actually arrived at Veilstone Gym at seven o’clock, carrying speciality breakfasts from several old shops in Veilstone City.
Kai opened the door and let him in.
Phil enthusiastically raised the takeaway boxes in his hands.
"I bought a lot of breakfast. Is Gym Leader Julian awake?"
Kai nodded.
"Master is in the back garden leading the Gym Pokémon through morning exercises."
The morning exercises mainly focused on loosening the body. After all, they still had to receive challengers.
However, Pokémon not assigned to Gym battle duty today could train at full intensity.
For example, Miraidon, Goodra, Bagon, and Eevee.
After learning Phil had brought breakfast, Julian did not refuse.
Kai’s breakfast was also brought to the table. Phil’s eyes widened.
"You eat this much every morning!?"
"Then the food I brought..."
Kai waved his hand.
"Don’t worry. Master can eat it."
Through training, Kai’s appetite had also increased quite a bit.
But compared to the Veyne family, Kai was still far behind.
"Phil, you eat some too."
Phil nodded, then watched Julian calmly sweep through the food like a storm.
Phil could not help asking himself...
Is the first requirement for becoming an excellent Trainer being able to eat a lot?
After eating and drinking his fill, Julian brought Phil to the back garden.
The official battlefield had only just been repaired. They could not let Primeape and Infernape’s sparring destroy it again.
If the back garden’s earth was damaged, it would be much easier to fix.
When Primeape learned that a Trainer had specifically asked to challenge him, he was naturally very excited.
Among Julian’s Pokémon, Primeape was not only the first to be challenged by name, but also the only one.
This was thanks to Full_Speed_Ahead and ForeverBurning promoting him one after another.
Primeape was very happy and decided to face Infernape with full strength.
He guaranteed that he would give Infernape an unforgettable experience.
Primeape and Infernape stood facing each other.
Primeape lightly bumped his fists together.
A faint layer of red flame instantly wrapped around both fists.
Infernape immediately felt himself locked onto by a powerful aura.
Phil shouted, "Infernape, Mach Punch!"
Mach Punch was very fast.
But compared to the Gallade that Primeape faced every day...
Infernape seemed slow.
Primeape shifted his body slightly and avoided Infernape’s fist.
"Dynamic Punch!"
A fist wreathed in bright yellow force slammed into Infernape’s chest like a warhead.
Infernape could not believe it.
The enormous power directly sent Infernape flying.
After landing, Infernape staggered.
The fact that he could still stay on his feet was already thanks to his willpower.
Phil shouted, "Infernape!"
Was the gap between Infernape and Primeape really this large?
"Infernape, Flare Blitz! We won’t fall here!"
"Dynamic Punch!"
Infernape rushed in front of Primeape at high speed, wrapped in blazing flames.
Primeape threw another punch.
The powerful air wave directly extinguished Infernape’s flames.
Primeape’s fist did not even touch Infernape’s body...
Just the force and shockwave released from it directly knocked Infernape unconscious.
Phil’s eyes widened.
"It’s... over?"
Phil was unbelievably excited.
So this was the power Primeape possessed?
He had defeated his Infernape from a distance!
Even Julian was somewhat surprised by Primeape’s move.
Releasing force outside the body to attack from a distance.
This was an extremely advanced technique for using Fighting-type moves.
Especially when it was applied to a move as violently powerful as Dynamic Punch.
