This was Julian’s second time simulating Tinkatuff.
Somehow, nearly a month had passed since the end of his last simulation.
During that month, Tinkatuff had been under the system’s control.
Her forging technique had not improved, but based on Julian’s battle level and forging level from a month ago, Tinkatuff’s strength had still risen quite a bit.
By Julian’s estimate, he would need at most one more month.
Then he should be able to evolve smoothly into Tinkaton.
Perhaps because the system had been controlling her, this Tinkatuff had not been removed from the simulation.
In just this short month, the Corviknight hunting team had crashed four times.
All because of Archaludon!
Yet Julian’s Tinkatuff had managed to avoid every disaster through sheer luck.
The Tinkatuff who had originally set out with him, riding Corviknight to forage across the island, had all died.
Only Tinkaton was still alive.
Tinkaton was strong, so Archaludon had not treated her as the first target.
She was also flexible-minded.
After seeing Julian throw his war hammer last time and knock Archaludon’s head aside, she had specially prepared a second hammer.
It was meant specifically for throwing at Archaludon’s head if they encountered it again.
The current hunting team had already been replaced with new Tinkatuff riding new Corviknight.
Julian planned to try using Uncle Tsukasa’s forging techniques.
Then he suddenly noticed that three rather impressive Mawile had appeared on the mine mountain.
Only, the Mawile’s expressions were a little timid.
It did not quite match their impressive appearances.
And by impressive, he meant all three Mawile were male.
Julian immediately went to find Tinkaton. As expected, she was in the same old place, practising her hammer swings.
"Tinkaton, why are there suddenly so many Mawile on the mine mountain?"
Tinkaton continued swinging her war hammer while answering Julian’s question.
"Whenever the number of Tinkatink and Tinkatuff drops too badly, the queen goes underground to look for Mawile groups."
"With Mawile here, as long as they move around the territory for a while, quite a few Tinkatink Pokémon Eggs will appear on the mine mountain."
"We hunt from the sky with Corviknight, so our growth is fast, but everyone also dies faster than before."
"That’s why she captured these three Mawile and brought them back."
Julian nodded in realisation.
No wonder the Mawile looked so nervous.
They had been dragged up the mountain by the Tinkaton queen to strengthen the bloodline.
Mere Mawile could not resist at all.
Indeed, along the way, Julian had noticed there were far fewer Tinkatink than before.
"Besides the flying team, Tinkatink foraging nearby must have been attacked quite a lot too, right?"
Tinkaton nodded.
"Because we like attacking Duraludon from the sky, after Duraludon learned about it, they started ambushing Tinkatink near the mine mountain."
What a bunch of bullies
"Recently, Archaludon has become more and more active. It has laid who knows how many Duraludon Eggs across the forest."
"I heard from the leader that the annual battle royale seems about to begin again."
Battle royale?
This place was indeed an island, but it was extremely large.
And beneath the sea, there were also rich underground spaces to explore.
Julian could even determine that this island contained magma veins.
Rather than an island, it was more like the exposed peak of an enormous volcano rising above the sea.
"When the time comes, every Pokémon on the island will be forced together by a strange mist and made to slaughter one another."
"That strange mist drives Pokémon mad. They attack every Pokémon around them indiscriminately, including their own kind."
Julian frowned.
"Then what condition makes the mist disappear?"
Tinkaton shook her head.
"I don’t know. The mist makes everyone lose their mind, but once the Pokémon have killed each other to a certain extent, the mist disappears."
"And if enough killing happens before the mist fully spreads, then even when the new mist appears, its effect becomes weaker."
"By hunting other species, we can preserve enough reason in the mist to avoid killing our own kind."
Julian understood as soon as he heard it.
This was another horrible place similar to the endless battlefield between Bug-type and Flying-type Pokémon.
He did not understand who had created this place.
Or what their goal was.
"Tinkatuff, to survive this battle royale smoothly, we need to become as strong as possible!"
Julian nodded.
With the Tinkaton queen here, there was no need to worry about the continuation of the Tinkaton line.
As one of the top Pokémon on this island, she would definitely survive.
Julian and the other Tinkatuff were either her children or the children of her children.
They had created them partly to avoid loneliness.
And partly, perhaps, because if she unfortunately died in battle, the Tinkaton species would not go extinct.
But the appearance of Tinkaton and Julian had let her see the possibility of their species existing more stably.
"Tinkaton, has there ever been a species that was completely wiped out, only to appear again after the battle royale?"
Tinkaton nodded.
"The queen said that even if one species is completely killed, that species will no longer be the same as before."
"For example, with our Tinkaton line, if the queen unfortunately dies but some of us happen to survive, then the she can return as a Pokémon Egg."
"I heard that the steel giant on the first underground level was once killed before. But because a few small monsters survived..."
"It was born again and quickly became stronger by absorbing those small monsters."
Julian smiled.
"So Archaludon has been hunting like mad to breed more Duraludon."
It was basically stocking up on extra lives.
Wait!
"Tinkaton, is Archaludon always targeting us because we’ve been killing Duraludon?"
"Does Archaludon think we’re trying to completely kill it during this battle royale?"
Tinkaton froze for a moment.
Following Julian’s line of thought...
That did seem to be the case.
What had originally been simple hunting behaviour suddenly gained another layer of meaning.
Julian was a little curious.
If he evolved into Tinkaton and trained his strength to the Tinkaton queen’s level...
Then if he died in battle, could he use this battle royale mechanism to revive?
If he could, then perhaps he could use that mechanism to quickly reach an S-rank evaluation.
If he simulated Tinkatink again, Julian was confident he could reach S-rank.
Julian asked again, "Tinkaton, can only one Pokémon of a species enjoy this resurrection effect, or can every Tinkaton who reaches the queen’s level do it?"
Tinkaton froze.
"I really don’t know that. Let’s go ask her together."
The two found the Tinkaton queen.
After listening to their question, she nodded.
"It’s possible. But a species like that would face attacks from everyone."
"Once, there were three extremely powerful steel giants on this island."
"Now only one remains. That is the reason."
