Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Defeating Cynthia

A/N:6/6 Bonus Chapters

-----------------------

Early the next morning, Julian and Cynthia were already standing at opposite ends of the battle field the Safari Zone staff had flattened out and occasionally used for recreation.

Julian looked beside him.

"I’ll be counting on you, Goodra!"

Goodra nodded and walked into the battle field.

Beside him stood Hakamo-o and Bagon.

As Dragon-type Pokémon, watching Goodra’s battle would help Hakamo-o and Bagon grow.

Cynthia took out a Poké Ball and threw it into the air.

"I’ll be counting on you, Lucario!"

Julian paused.

He had thought Cynthia would use Garchomp.

But it was Lucario?

As expected of Cynthia. After learning Goodra’s typing, she sent out Lucario, who countered Goodra and was also very fitting for the occasion.

Once Lucario appeared, he did not immediately look at today’s opponent, Goodra.

Instead, Lucario’s gaze fell on Julian.

Like Maylene’s Riolu, Lucario was also full of curiosity towards the blue Aura flowing from him.

Because Maylene was unreliable, Julian had genuinely tried teaching Riolu some wilderness survival knowledge.

After obtaining Aura, he had also tried to guide Riolu’s Aura training using Sir Aaron’s method of teaching Lucario.

Although Riolu had not learned Aura Sphere yet, he had already mastered some basic uses of Aura.

At the very least, there was no need to worry about Maylene getting lost in the wilderness.

A Riolu who could freely use Aura while still in the Riolu stage was extremely talented.

In the anime, there had once been one entrusted by a certain kingdom to a Breeder.

It had been fought over by several factions one after another, and even a Pokémon Ranger had become involved.

Although Maylene’s Riolu did not have that level of innate talent, under Julian’s guidance, Riolu also understood the correct way to use Aura.

Without someone who understood Aura, or a Pokémon that understood it, to teach them...

Forget Riolu. Even Lucario might not necessarily use Aura well.

Some Lucario could not even use Aura Sphere properly.

In Julian’s perception, compared to the power Lucario possessed, Cynthia’s Lucario’s Aura was not especially strong.

It was even a little weak, unworthy of Lucario’s overall strength.

From this, it could be seen that Cynthia’s training focus for Lucario was not Aura.

"Julian, what do you think of my Lucario?"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Do you want to hear my evaluation of Lucario’s Aura?"

Cynthia nodded.

"Because I don’t have Aura myself, my training in this aspect is indeed somewhat lacking."

Julian nodded.

"It is a little lacking. If you need it, Cynthia, you can send Lucario to Veilstone Gym and let him train Aura by my side for a while."

"It should benefit Lucario’s future development quite a lot."

Cynthia smiled.

"Even if you say that, I won’t hold back."

"Lucario, Aura Sphere!"

"Water Pulse!"

Lucario’s Aura was not large in quantity, but his speed in using Aura Sphere was very fast.

It pierced through Water Pulse and struck Goodra.

Goodra lowered her head and charged towards Lucario.

"Lucario, Bone Rush!"

A blue bone staff appeared in Lucario’s hands.

After approaching Goodra, Lucario swung the bone staff down towards her abdomen.

Who would have expected Goodra to suddenly turn her body, bringing the huge snail shell crashing over?

Lucario’s eyes filled with shock, and he was directly sent flying by that enormous force.

He flew several dozen metres away, then landed and rolled miserably for several more metres before finally climbing back up.

Admiration appeared in Cynthia’s eyes.

Carrying such a heavy snail shell, Goodra could still burst out with that kind of speed.

As expected, she was a strong opponent.

But how would they deal with this move?

"Lucario, Extreme Speed!"

Lucario turned into an afterimage and directly vanished from Goodra’s sight.

"Shelter!"

Goodra’s body lit up with brilliant silvery-white light, then quickly drew it inward.

Cynthia raised an eyebrow.

Shelter?

Goodra actually possessed a move even she had never heard of?

Lucario struck a palm towards Goodra, only for his paw to slide across her body.

It missed!

Julian raised an eyebrow. So this was how Shelter’s evasion boost manifested?

"Muddy Water. Use it on the ground."

Even if Lucario used Extreme Speed, his feet could not leave the ground and fly.

Goodra spat out Muddy Water, and the battle field was quickly covered in slippery mud.

If Lucario used Extreme Speed again, he would likely only end up falling.

Extreme Speed.

Julian had not expected Cynthia to have Lucario master such a powerful weapon.

When he had simulated Lucario, he had also tried learning Extreme Speed.

Through Quick Attack and using Aura to increase movement speed...

If he could combine those two abilities, he should be able to master Extreme Speed.

Unfortunately, that simulation had ended too quickly.

It had not given him more chances to try.

"Lucario, Earthquake!"

Lucario leapt high into the air and poured energy through both legs into the earth.

A powerful shockwave lifted the layer of mud on the surface. The giant wave covered Lucario’s figure and surged towards Goodra along with the earthquake wave.

Julian released Aura, locked onto Lucario’s position, and transmitted the direction to Goodra.

"Goodra, Steel Beam!"

Intense silvery-white light gathered, piercing through the mud and flying towards Lucario.

In Lucario’s hands, an Aura Sphere was currently condensing.

Seeing Steel Beam, Lucario immediately launched the Aura Sphere.

"Extreme Speed!"

Cynthia gave the order, and Lucario immediately shifted position.

He avoided Steel Beam, stepped onto the ground where the mud had been cleared away, and rushed in front of Goodra.

"Protect!"

Lucario’s palm struck the emerald-green barrier, and his power was completely blocked.

Seeing the blue light in Julian’s eyes, Cynthia knew he had used Aura to lock onto Lucario, who had been hidden by the muddy wave.

Aura truly lived up to its reputation.

"Extreme Speed!"

This time, Goodra’s Shelter did not take effect.

Lucario struck Goodra, sending her flying.

But the result was minimal.

Goodra’s defences were already powerful, and after being strengthened by Shelter, Lucario’s attacks struggled to move her.

"Aura Sphere, Extreme Speed!"

Holding Aura Sphere in his hand, then using the high speed of Extreme Speed to attack.

Her training of Lucario had actually reached this level.

Using this move, Goodra was gradually worn down.

The blue light in Julian’s eyes flickered constantly, while Goodra gritted her teeth and endured Lucario’s attacks.

"Now! Iron Tail!"

Goodra suddenly swung her tail, striking ahead of time at the position where Lucario was about to appear.

Extreme Speed had been broken by Julian!

Lucario failed to catch his breath and fainted just like that.

Cynthia was somewhat stunned.

She had actually lost just like this?

"You used Aura to predict where Lucario would appear?"

Julian nodded.

"If it were another Pokémon, I might not have been able to do it. But Lucario’s Aura is a little too clear to me."

Cynthia smiled.

"Looks like I was trying to be clever and outsmarted myself. Since you won, I’ll tell you where you should go to catch Riolu."
