Chapter 540: Pokemon master of tactics: Chapter 540
Alex and Steven immediately ran onto the battlefield, each carrying a bottle of a Hyper Potion.
Alex knelt beside Crobat first and carefully sprayed the medicine over the bruises left by Psychic. he said quietly. "Good work, You exceeded my expectations."
Although Crobat remained unconscious, Alex could see his breathing gradually becoming steadier as the Potion took effect.
A few meters away, Steven was doing the same for Metagross. he said calmly. "You fought well, You almost turned it around. this round is my mistake."
Only after both Pokémon had received first aid did the two trainers recall them to their Poké Balls.
Steven walked over to Alex and let out a quiet laugh. "I honestly thought I’d finally cornered you."
Alex smiled back. "You almost did."
Steven shook his head. "No, you were one step ahead the whole time. That Protect against Bullet Punch... I didn’t see it coming."
Alex replied. "I was hoping you wouldn’t, If you’d prepared almost any other move there, things would’ve become much more worsed for me."
Steven looked at him with a curious expression. "...You always seem to know exactly what your opponent is about to do."
Alex simply shrugged. "I just make an educated guess and i...know you metagorss pretty good."
He almost instinctively said that he could see which moves were available on the expert and master ranks, making it easier for him to assess which moves an opponent might use than other trainers but he quickly saves himself.
Steven smiled, clearly unconvinced. "True but this feels... never mind."
Alex only smiled in response, offering no further explanation.
Even though his system gave him an unfair advantage, Alex didn’t feel particularly guilty.
The ability to read information about Pokémon was simply one of his own abilities. Using it in battle was no different from using any other natural talent.
As far as he was concerned, it was no different from powerful psychics enhancing their Pokémon with their psychic powers during battle.
That ability was arguably even stronger and less fair than his own system, yet it was perfectly legal in official tournaments.
Compared to that, merely being able to gather more information about an opponent didn’t seem particularly unreasonable to Alex.
The referee waited until both trainers had returned to their positions before preparing to resume the semifinal.
He gave the signal and both trainers called their last Pokemon for this match.

Alex didn’t have a perfect counter for Aggron—likely the last Pokémon Steven would send out—but he still had a Pokémon that could be considered a counter.
Aggron has a 4× weakness to Fighting-type moves and it only could withstand one hit from Blaziken because its Defense stat is ridiculously high, sitting at 180.
But even with that absurd stat, it wouldn’t survive more than two High Jump Kicks from Blaziken.
Unfortunately, Blaziken wouldn’t survive two Earthquakes either.
It seems like an even match, but when you consider the limitations of the move Earthquake and Aggron’s speed, it becomes clear which Pokémon counters the other.
The referee raised his hand and shouted, "3, 2, 1, Go!"
Alex and Steven said nothing, but both Pokémon began preparing moves without waiting for commands.
Blaziken, with her superior speed, started running away from Aggron, who immediately gave chase upon seeing the movement.
Both Pokémon prepared moves as they maneuvered through the arena, but Blaziken’s speed allowed her to quickly open up a gap.
Blaziken was fast enough to run out of the optimal range for almost all ranged attacks, yet she chose not to, staying instead at the very edge of that range.
Alex understood that he could only really lose if Earthquake landed a hit. Since that move dealt more damage the closer the target was to the attacker, it wasn’t difficult to counter—provided Alex’s Pokémon held the speed advantage.
Both Pokémon finished preparing at the same time and unleashed their moves almost simultaneously; Aggron was just a fraction of a second slower.
Aggron used Sandstorm, and a thick sandstorm began to fill the arena.
Blaziken used Will-O-Wisp, and a small flame flew toward Aggron with considerable precision.
Aggron tried to dodge but was hit. Not only did he catch fire, but he also felt the Fire-type energy sapping his physical strength.
Seeing that Blaziken’s first move wasn’t Sunny Day, Steven realized he had made a mistake.
He had often seen Alex’s Blaziken use that move first and had expected the same pattern in this match.
That was why Aggron had been slightly slower, even though both Pokémon had begun preparing their moves at the same time.
Steven could only hope that his Sandstorm would allow Aggron to get close enough to Blaziken.
Alex saw right through this tactic and immediately commanded telepathically, "Run straight to the edge of the arena and prepare Sunny Day next."
Blaziken couldn’t see or sense Aggron through the thick sandstorm—which was being used to obscure vision rather than deal direct damage—but she didn’t need to.
She ran in the same direction she had been moving from the start and prepared her next move.
Aggron was far too slow; moreover, because Blaziken kept gaining speed, the gap between the two Pokémon continued to widen.
On top of that, the burn caused him to take increasing damage with every passing second.
Blaziken finished preparing and immediately used Sunny Day; the sandstorm vanished the moment she unleashed the move.
Aggron also used a move—Rock Polish—which made him much faster. Although he was still slower than Blaziken, the speed gap was no longer quite as significant.
Both Pokémon prepared their next moves; Blaziken, having reached the edge of the arena, began moving diagonally.
Aggron was able to close the distance, and it didn’t take long before it was within range for most ranged attacks.
Both Pokémon had their moves ready, but neither unleashed them immediately.
Blaziken leapt into the air and used High Jump Kick, while Aggron focused entirely on dodging the attack.
This was part of Steven’s plan; he knew that if he could just dodge that move, he would win.
Unfortunately, Blaziken was too skilled with the move and managed to land the hit on Aggron.
Aggron took heavy damage and was left with less than 40% of his HP.
Suppressing the pain, Aggron immediately unleashed his readied Earthquake the moment Blaziken touched the ground.
Blaziken, standing only three meters away, was struck by a near-full-power Earthquake and sustained severe damage.
a crit hit.
She, too, was left with less than 40% HP.
Given that Will-O-Wisp had dealt more damage than Sandstorm, it was evident that Earthquake had inflicted more damage than High Jump Kick.
Without Will-O-Wisp this hit would defeat Blaziken
Alex, watching the scene, wasn’t particularly surprised.
Earthquake is an extremely powerful move here, and the damage dealt within a range of a few meters is ridiculously high. at that range the chance for a crit is very high..
Blaziken began preparing another move while simultaneously sprinting toward the opposite edge of the arena.
Aggron gave chase, trying to stay as close as possible while preparing his own move.
Unfortunately for Aggron, Blaziken was getting faster by the second, and he struggled to keep pace in a straight line.
By the time the Pokémon were 25 meters apart, both had finished preparing their moves. Blaziken didn’t use High Jump Kick against Steven’s Aggron.
Instead, she used Overheat, which dealt only neutral damage to Aggron.
Aggron, in turn, used Earthquake.
However, Blaziken—having anticipated this (thanks to Alex)—leaped into the air immediately after executing her own move.
Although she would land in less than couple seconds, that brief window was enough.
Aggron was struck and instantly collapsed, unconscious.
He had only about 35% of his HP remaining, and Overheat proved too much for him to withstand.
The Earthquake—a move that normally leaves little chance for a leaping Pokémon to dodge—was not interrupted.
Blaziken was hit as she landed and took damage. She barely survived the attack, left with less than 15% HP.
Not that it mattered.
Even if Earthquake somehow had defeated Blaziken, Alex would still have been declared the winner, as Blaziken would have lost consciousness later than Aggron.
Blaziken was exhausted, yet she raised both hands in the air like a champion.
Alex smiled, knowing he had reached the final.

I hope you enjoyed this long Chapter.
As you could see, Alex won the match—which was pretty obvious after he defeated Metagross—but I hope you had as much fun with this match as I did.
I showcased a few new tactics and tricks in this match that weren’t easy to come up with—
—especially without making them look illogical or random.
I really enjoyed this match, and I have to say it’s probably among the top 5 fights.
thanks for the support and bye =).
