Plugged In: I got Isekai'd into a Sexbot (Now I Must Save The World)
Chapter 159: Broken Bones and Bargaining Chips
Vuvela Blackthorn lays ear-deep in a puddle of mud and blood, the world spinning around her in a hazy blur of shapes and muffled sounds.
Around her the rest of the field lies still, littered with the wreckage of a fight that none of them saw coming, even while they fought it.
Sera groans somewhere from under a crushed carriage, too much pain and too little consciousness preventing her from rising as one hand still weakly reaches for a greatsword just out of reach.
Xenara drags herself across the mud on her five remaining limbs, snarling, heaving for breath, leaving a dark, red groove behind her, clawing forward uselessly as she tries to close the distance between her and Bilorial’s.
"Stop... please." he begs her, his own fingers twitching futilely at his side, magic sputtering weak and useless from a hand that no longer wants to cooperate, his monocle cracked clean across one lens. "It’s over, friend."
Syraleth strolls through it all chuckling heartily to herself as steps over a dismembered limb and discarded shield, then shimmies daintily past a still-smoking crater with the casual grace of a woman touring her own garden after a spring storm. She passes Veena, stops and glowers at the demon princess for a long moment as she struggles for breath in the mud. "Pitiful." she says, lips turned in disgust. She scoff, once, hard.
Before turning to where Vuvi lies half-buried in churned mud.
She flicks a single finger, and threads of condensed crimson magic wrap Vuvi’s body, tearing her out of the mangled earth and she rises into the air, limbs dangling limply, held helpless a full foot off the ground by Syraleth’s magical-powered will.
She was battered, bleeding freely from a wound across her scalp, red curls matted and black with mud and blood alike, one arm hanging at an angle that suggests it stopped working correctly several minutes ago.
"You aren’t getting away with this," Vuvi spits, a fat fleck of bloody defiance splotching across Syraleth’s cheek.
The baroness doesn’t flinch at all.
She simply chuckles instead, low and warm and entirely unbothered by the little half-elfs last flickers of fury. She reaches up to wipe the blood away from her face with one claw-tipped finger, studying it a moment before licking it clean with an almost fond grin, clearly entertain by their little exchange.
"Oh, darling," she purrs, her voice, even in baroness form, a slithering smoothness like silk digging itself around Vuvi’s mind. "I’m already getting away with it, aren’t I? Look around you, sweetheart. Your friends are all on the verge of death. Your golden golem is mine. And you... are currently hanging in midair by nothing but my patience, which, I should warn you, has just about run out."
She pulls Vuvi closer to her, face to face, the breath of every word washing over’s Vuvi’s face as she speaks.
"Thank you, truly." she says, her voice smooth and level. Almost mistable for actual honesty. "For what you’ve created. For what you’ve given me. I’m sorry it had to end like this. But know this," she turns to Pip, still frozen, hands still outstretched. "He will be treated... like a god."
She closes her fist, slow, deliberate, savoring every inch of it as Vuvi’s scream of anguish tears across the flaming farmland as invisible magical pressure crushes in around her ribs, her spine, her skull. Every bone and joint in her body groaning in protest at once, the sound of something in her shoulder creaking dangerously close to breaking. Her vision swims, red and hazy at the edges, her own heartbeat, somehow pounding in her throat, and deafening in her ears, and somewhere underneath all of that pain a small, distant, furious part of her is still doing the math on exactly how many seconds she has left to do something before something inside her snaps instead.
A roar suddenly rips out of the smoking heap where Maribelle and Raikya had fallen, raw and wordless. The unmistakable sound of a mother who has run entirely out of patience and mercy.
Maribelle surges up onto one knee, then both feet, every borrowed scrap of power crackling across her scorched, torn skin, eyes blazing pure silver, bright enough to cut through the smoke and dust hanging heavy over the field. Every line and wrinkles of her face narrowed down to one single, murderous point of purpose.
She throws herself, screaming toward her daughter with everything she has left, closing the distance in three long, desperate strides.
Syraleth doesn’t even look at her. She barely reacts.
She simply lifts two fingers and snaps them lazily, barely a flicker of effort passing across her face.
Maribelle freezes solid mid-lunge, one foot still hanging in the air, fury locked permanently onto her face, silver eyes still blazing but utterly, hopelessly still, a perfect statue of a mother’s rage suspended a heartbeat too late to matter as she’s locked in a temporal hold.
"Oh, do calm down!" Syraleth sneers, glancing at the frozen woman without a trace of real concern. "This will only take a moment longer."
Behind Syraleth, two more monks collapse to the ground at once, drained hollow, magic crystal cracked and stripped of their color, robes fluttering empty over smoking husks.
"My lady!" one of the kitsune twins calls out, voice cracking with genuine fear now, glancing nervously toward the last few monks still standing, robes swaying, faces gray with exhaustion.
"We’re running out of magic." the other kitsune calls out, "We can’t keep using the temporal hold. We need to finish this. Soon."
Syraleth waves a dismissive hand without breaking her grip on Vuvi, without so much as glancing away from the red-headed girl dangling helpless in front of her, red eyes blazing, firmly fixed on the green, glassy, red-rimmed eyes of Vuvi.
"Don’t worry." she mutters, voice low and smooth, savoring each word the way she’d savored everything else that day. "I’ll make sure it hurts."
Vuvi’s bones creak inside her.
One slow, sickening degree at a time, the sound somehow louder than the wind, louder than her own ragged breathing, louder than anything else left on the whole smoking, ruined battlefield.
"Good ahead," Syraleth coos. "You can scream."
And scream she did.
