Chapter 1470 - 479: Garbage Time
Chapter 1470: Chapter 479: Garbage Time
The person who arrived was none other than Heimdall, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge... uh, no, it was Solomon Lid, the former ace agent of the Intelligence Bureau.
"I’m here to form a Suicide Squad... cough... um..."
Lin Miao reacted quickly, coughing to cover up almost saying the wrong thing upon seeing this face.
"My subordinates have uncovered some information. The situation is more serious than I imagined, but I can’t investigate myself, so I want to ask a professional for help."
Lin Miao’s words didn’t surprise Lid, who simply shook his head and said
"I’ve long lost interest in getting involved in these matters. If it’s about these things, you’d better find someone else."
Lid wanted no part in anything political; he just wished to live out the rest of his life as an ordinary person.
If Song Zhaomei hadn’t come to him, he wouldn’t even have agreed to see Lin Miao.
Moreover, in his view, Lin Miao didn’t possess anything uniquely compelling, as the Horizon Mercenaries boasted many elite fighters, with absurd single-combat skills.
An Adam’s Hammer or Morgan Black Hand could serve as ace agents, but Lin Miao had tens of thousands of such people under him. While their strength hasn’t reached that level yet, it’s only a matter of time.
As for V?
That’s not human, not within the scope of comparison.
How strong she is now, well, even Lin Miao doesn’t know her limits, possibly not even V herself.
"Don’t rush to refuse; I haven’t said what the matter is yet."
Lin Miao had no doubt about Lid’s resolve, but since the latter was willing to help in the past, he knew Lid couldn’t just sit idly by.
After sending the collated data to Lid and indicating for him to open and review it, Lin Miao said
"This is what I’ve discovered from an AI; someone is smuggling high-concentration nuclear material in Georgia. Later, I made private contact, and the issue there..."
Upon opening the file, Lid’s expression grew serious, and he directly added
"It’s even worse than you imagined, right."
As an ace of the Intelligence Bureau, Lid had a good grasp of the situations in various states of New America during his tenure, having seen the relevant dossiers even if he hadn’t visited.
Georgia is a notably forbidden area in New America, second only to Utah, and akin to Maine.
"How much do you know?"
Lid closed the file and said calmly
"Ten years ago, when I was there, the Intelligence Bureau recorded over three thousand cults in New America, with Georgia accounting for a third and Utah half. It leads in annual missing persons, yet has a low crime rate."
Although Lid didn’t plan to help Lin Miao in eliminating political enemies, nor meddle in the latter’s war with Europe, some things can’t be ignored just by burying one’s head in the sand.
If Lid desired a peaceful life, he had to be involved in these unrestful matters.
"What do you want me to do for you?"
"Investigate."
Lin Miao tapped the table
"Investigate all individuals, events, items involved in this matter and present them all to me."
"Then what?"
"They all must die, no matter who they are."
"Including...."
"I said, no matter who they are."
Clearly feeling the chilling intent in Lin Miao’s words, Lid was somewhat taken aback, initially thinking the other would wield these matters as leverage against state governments, surprisingly finding him so direct.
Seeing Lid consider, Lin Miao promptly added
"I’ve reviewed all your files, Lid, you’re someone I can trust, so the task I give you can be abandoned anytime you find it inappropriate, I will never hold you accountable."
"...."
Lid, dumbstruck, felt uneasy at the near absolute trust and indulgence, as if completely unafraid of him being bribed by Miles.
This trust weighed heavily even on Lid’s conscience.
"I’m insufficient alone."
Eventually, he couldn’t resist Lin Miao’s sincere appeal, not for Lin Miao, but for the suffering masses of New America.
"How many people do you need?"
"Not many, but given Georgia’s unique situation, I need a specialist familiar with religion, a stealth expert who can support my actions, along with a hacker and a tech expert."
"I’ll get you the best, you can directly contact Song Zhaomei for the hacker, make a list of equipment, I’ll prepare it for you."
"Additionally, if necessary, Georgia is right next to Florida, my army can move over at any time."
Lin Miao’s statement virtually disregarded New America’s constitution, possibly even signifying readiness for internal conflict.
Perhaps this might actually benefit New America’s people.
Having personally witnessed Night City’s evolution, Lid didn’t necessarily dislike Lin Miao; though his tactics were overly aggressive, they were undeniably effective.
"Alright."
Lid formally accepted Lin Miao’s request, then closed the communication, stepped off from his truck, and said to the old man handling the load
"Zhang, I just took a long-term deal, they’re paying well, might be gone for a while."
The gray-haired shopkeeper was unsurprised upon hearing this, given Night City was rife with opportunities and in dire need of hands, he chuckled.
"No problem, you go ahead, just don’t forget me when you earn."
Lid shut the truck door after unloading, smiling as well
"I’ll treat you to the finest wine when I return."
He relished life like this and thus needed to defend such a life.

The news of the European Fleet’s defeat had already spread among the Cubans, causing the once-stable army unit’s morale to plummet.
