Chapter 388: Chapter 370: Don’t Tell Me You Went Back to Change Clothes?
Although Su Ling’er was starting to panic, she wasn’t ready to give up.
"Senior Brother! Senior Brother, look at him!"
"This old fiend is just asking to die! How dare he cause trouble in your territory? He’s trying to destroy your Anhe City, isn’t he? That palm strike of his isn’t some harmless cloud of mist—it’s a slap right in your face!"
"Senior Brother, how can you stand for this? I know I can’t! This is absolutely intolerable!"
"Quick! Teach him a lesson! Use that... what was it... ’Celestial Punishment’! Or hit him with that ’Thousand-Strand Bind’ and truss him up like a turkey! Show him who’s the real master of Anhe City!"
Su Ling’er had nearly talked her lips off, waiting with bated breath for that domineering power to descend once more.
However.
In the span of a single breath...
The giant palm descended a hundred feet.
The terrifying wind pressure compressed the strange mist above Anhe City until it was practically solid.
The once-flowing vapor shattered under the extreme compression, turning into countless white torrents that were swept along by the giant palm as it slammed downward.
Two breaths passed.
The sky above had completely vanished.
The giant palm was like a massive black hole, madly devouring all the surrounding dark clouds and light. Its volume continued to swell, its edges merging with the horizon, as if the entire sky were collapsing to grind the city to dust!
Three breaths passed.
Still no response from her senior brother... Nothing happened.
Within her sea of consciousness, there was only a deathly silence.
Her senior brother, who had never failed her at a critical moment, seemed to have vanished without a trace. There was no reply, not even the slightest fluctuation of Spiritual Power.
Though Su Ling’er maintained the facade of calm on her face, her heart had sunk to rock bottom.
An ominous premonition instantly replaced her earlier blind confidence.
"...Senior Brother?"
There was no reply.
"This isn’t funny at all!" she cried, panicking.
Still, silence.
"No... It can’t be, can it?" she whispered in terror.
She remembered back at the sect, when Qian Buyu was hunting them down. Her senior brother had abandoned her and fled, his escape as smooth and natural as flowing water.
’When in doubt, better you than me, huh?’
Heh...
Su Ling’er let out a self-deprecating laugh in her mind.
’What am I even thinking?’
’This must be fate.’
’Who is there to blame? He saved my life to begin with. Without him, I would have died long ago, let alone lived to see this day. And without his intervention just now, Anhe City would have already been destroyed.’
’Besides, it’s only natural to run when facing a Nascent Soul fiend. For him to have survived in a demonic sect for so long while holding onto his principles, he must have mastered the art of seeking advantage and avoiding harm. That’s the first rule of survival in the Cultivation Realm.’
’I was too naive, pinning all my hopes on someone else. In the end... I’m just too weak.’
’But...’
Her gaze passed over the city below, and she could almost see the terrified faces of her parents, the trembling figures of Wenxuan and Wenjing, and all the despairing citizens.
’It’s just a pity for all the people in this city...’
In that instant, Su Ling’er’s Dao Heart wavered violently.
’Should I just agree to this old fiend’s demands for now?’
’If I just submit, if I become a Demon Cultivator’s disciple, maybe the people of this city can survive?’
’But... even those on the righteous path break their promises. What hope is there for these vile heretics?’
Across from her, Mr. Youquan saw her wavering expression and smiled faintly.
Everything, it seemed, was within his control.
...
The giant palm seemed to be right on top of her now, its deathly wind pressure nearly suffocating Su Ling’er.
But even knowing it was a vain hope, even knowing he had probably already fled, she couldn’t bear to let Anhe City fall into the hands of the demonic path.
Instinctively, Su Ling’er shouted one last prayer into the void.
It was, perhaps, the final lifeline for her and for Anhe City.
She gathered all her strength and let out a great cry to the heavens:
"To turn back the raging tide! To right what is about to fall!"
"Chief Disciple of the Guixi Sect! The Infallible Strategist, the Banished Immortal!!"
"I humbly beseech my one and only Senior Brother through all the ages to come forth!!!"
Her shrill, desperate cry echoed between heaven and earth.
Hearing this roar, Mr. Youquan, on the other side, was momentarily stunned.
’Hm?’
’Guixi Sect?’
’That name... why does it sound so familiar?’
’A while back, the sect seemed to have sent a spy to that sect...’
’Wait, she’s from the Guixi Sect?!’
However.
Before he could finish that thought, the situation changed in an instant!
BOOM————————!!!
A streak of white light kicked Mr. Youquan squarely in the side!
"SPIT—!!"
WHOOSH—!
Mr. Youquan’s body was sent flying backward like a human cannonball!
The giant palm of mist that had covered the entire city proved incredibly fragile against the impact!
"RIIIP—!!"
A huge hole dozens of feet in diameter was instantly blasted through the center of the palm. The terrifying kinetic energy, wrapped in a shockwave, shredded the dark clouds and the thousands of vengeful ghosts within!
But this was only the beginning.
With undiminished momentum, the figure trailed a long vapor cone as it flew nearly ten miles outside Anhe City!
Finally, it crashed into a towering, solitary mountain peak!
"KRA-KOOM————!!!!"
The earth trembled violently. The ten-thousand-foot peak didn’t even last an instant before a blinding light erupted at the point of impact.
The mountain was gone.
The entire upper half of the mountain had been instantly obliterated into a cloud of dust. A huge mushroom cloud rose into the sky, and a violent shockwave swept across the land, uprooting every tree for miles in every direction!
Where the mountain that once towered into the clouds had stood, there was now only a massive crater belching thick smoke.
...
A deathly silence fell over the world.
Everyone stared, dumbfounded, at the sky.
Where Mr. Youquan had been standing, amidst the dissipating mist and Demonic Qi, a figure floated silently.
Just then, the clouds parted and the mist scattered. A beam of clear, cold light shone down on the figure, outlining him in a sacred, golden glow.
He was no longer wearing his usual, understated black robes.
Senior Brother Lin Qingfeng was now dressed in robes as white as snow.
The robes, made of some unknown material, shimmered with an iridescent light. As the corners fluttered, faint patterns of immortal cranes and clouds became visible. He stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his sleeves and robes billowing around him.
He was like a child of light, sent to cleave the darkness—the sole hope born from a city’s despair!
"Is that... Is that Miss Su’s senior brother?!"
The citizens below were mesmerized. Some even began to kowtow in worship.
And in mid-air.
Su Ling’er, who had just been through a life-and-death rollercoaster, could only stare with her mouth agape at this familiar yet foreign senior brother before her.
She suddenly remembered the moment he had saved her at the Demon-Locking Tower. Even after he had clearly defeated the demon beast, he’d put on a whole light show just for her benefit.
’No, wait... S-Senior Brother? You disappeared... you didn’t answer... Don’t tell me you went off to pick out an outfit and special effects for your grand entrance?!!!’
...
Roiling smoke and dust blotted out the sky.
Just when everyone thought the old fiend had been annihilated by that single blow...
"BOOM————!!!"
The earth trembled violently again.
A terrifying pillar of light, hundreds of feet in diameter, erupted from the crater, instantly piercing the heavens!
