Chapter 847 - 717: Prayer Unleashed
The oppressive pressure cut off abruptly. Omega staggered up from the ground, took out a band-aid, and stuck it over the crack in his fishbowl helmet.
The scene looked downright bizarre: a nearly fifty-meter-tall eyeball-shaped Angel was holding a set of Gwent Cards across the air, sitting there honestly playing a match with Omega.
Knight, Giant Dragon, trebuchet.
Mage, Dwarf, Siege Tower.
The two sides traded blows in turns, arranging their units, weirdly harmonious.
"WTF..."
Gray Rain was dumbstruck. After staring for a while, he turned his head and asked, "So they’re just sitting there playing cards? Not betting anything?"
"Bet what? Happy Beans?"
Li Cheng rolled his eyes, something clicking in his mind.
He was wearing the Information Integration Glasses and could see the rough info of the Friendship Gwent Card.
Omega knew his KDA was too high, his killing karma way too heavy. If he personally entered the field, it’d probably directly trigger the Beast Fighting Arena’s stress response and create an unprecedentedly powerful projection.
Because of that, he’d sat in the stands for a long time, calmly observing, eventually reaching a judgment—the projections made by the Beast Fighting Arena were all fake lives, without self-awareness or Advanced Intelligence.
When 0 keeps dropping it naturally becomes negative. Omega took out the Friendship Gwent Card and easily lowered the projection’s hostility value into the negative, triggering a card match and hard-controlling the opponent for at least 10 minutes.
But here came the problem: the Gwent Card’s Note said that any attack or being attacked would cause the match to break. How was Omega going to crack it?
The same question appeared in the minds of the Players in the stands. Omega suddenly froze, cards in hand, falling into deep thought.
Gwent Card is all about resource trade, the computation load isn’t that big. Thinking this long is clearly stalling for time,
and behind Omega’s red robe, his shadow kept stretching. From it, one after another white objects with round, oversized heads were climbing out.
"Sp... sperm?"
"Sperm my ass, those are Ghosts. More precisely, the little Ghosts from the movie ’Ghostly Little Spirit’."
Li Cheng saw it clearly—Omega was good at manipulating souls, quietly summoning hundreds of thousands of Ghosts.
The Ghosts were grinning like punks as they hauled out... acrylic ecological boxes from the shadow.
The eco boxes were huge, like miniature buildings. Inside, transparent acrylic panels divided them into narrow compartments, each compartment containing a faintly glowing point of light.
If you looked closely, you’d see those light points were all human souls—some with hands clasped, some kneeling, some muttering scripture, devoutly praying.
White people, Black People, brown people, yellow people—each group in decreasing proportion.
The little Ghosts carried the eco boxes out of the shadow and pushed them next to that eyeball Angel. The latter treated them like air, completely unconcerned.
The Angel was just a projection made by the Beast Fighting Arena, with no self-awareness, letting the human Spiritual Bodies in the eco boxes pray devoutly, releasing overlapping, noisy prayer chants.
"That’s... Power of Faith?!"
"Mm... visualized Power of Faith."
Someone in the stands caught on. All the Spiritual Bodies locked in the eco boxes were Christians from different Script Worlds—men and women, old and young, from ancient and modern times. The only thing they had in common was... strictly speaking, none of them were good people.
"Oh God, let me scalp one more..." A Western cowboy with a hunting rifle on his back and a hat on his head prayed devoutly, wearing boots made from Indians’ scalps.
"Thanks be to God, my sister’s pregnant, I’m gonna be a dad..." A redneck from Appalachian Mountain carved a cross hard into his chest.
"For my brothers I’ll stab my ribs, for my subordinates I’ll bare my heart..." A Mexico drug lord piously confessed in a small chapel deep in the mountains.
"Nigga nigga you sure are something, the cotton farm couldn’t hold you, and out pops a runaway." A militia man in a white hood snorted coldly as he hung an entire Black People family upside down under a tree on the border between Northern State and Southern States.
"I see."
Li Cheng’s eyes lit up. Rampant killing, close kin incest, mutilation and abuse—no matter how you slice it, all of it violates the most basic moral bottom line of humanity,
yet Christianity’s indulgences let you buy good deeds with money;
Protestant justification by faith alone allows anyone, without relying on virtuous acts or church rituals, to be deemed righteous solely by their faith in God and ascend to heaven after death.
Which means a bunch of scum can pray to God while feeling perfectly justified doing evil.
The souls of that kind of scum are utterly useless to guilds like the Holy Temple Knights, who can’t wait to distance themselves.
But to the Evil Science Alliance, there’s no such thing as trash—only resources placed in the wrong spot.
"Omega was originally the one who improved the Ten Thousand Souls Banner, closest to the water, first to get the moon. He’s been buying up large quantities of Christianity-background evil Spiritual Bodies from Players, collecting them, just to use on Angels."
Li Cheng said casually. The murky Power of Faith laced with foul private desires, via the sound of prayer, seamlessly grafted itself into the Angel’s body.
The Sitting Angel’s rotating eyeball wheels gradually took on a bloody tint. One eyeball after another rotted and fell off, yet it still showed no sign of ’being attacked and waking up’.
"The description said ’attack or be attacked’. Channeling Power of Faith, under the Battlefield System, is judged as a ’buff’, an enhancement, so it doesn’t trigger attack status and thus doesn’t break the match."
Li Cheng explained the battle to Gray Rain. There were roughly five hundred thousand evil Spiritual Bodies inside the eco boxes, each one a pure 24K bastard with sores on their head and pus under their feet,
and all of them extremely deranged, convinced they were super devout. The Power of Faith they output was mixed with impurities of pride, wrath, greed, lust, etc., like a crippling Poison, continuously poisoning the Sitting Angel.
If that were all, it’d still be manageable, but more fatal was this: Omega also drove Secret Technique, fishing the lake dry, squeezing the Spiritual Bodies.
Pray. Pray hard.
Time trickled by. When the ten-minute match ended, all five hundred thousand Spiritual Bodies had been squeezed into shriveled radishes,
while the Sitting Angel had had seventy percent of its eyeballs corroded away, barely holding its original shape, collapsing to the ground.
Omega rose slowly, arms stretching forward, the backs of his hands pressed together, then tearing forcefully to both sides.
Ka-la-la—
The Sitting Angel was ripped in half by Invisible Power, turned to ash, and the ground of the Beast Fighting Arena split open in turn, giving Omega a passage.
Omega turned around, bowed quite elegantly to the stands, then rose on his toes, lightly tapped the ground, and fell face to the sky into the fissure.
"...Did he just bow to us?" Gray Rain froze, saying silently over the comms channel, "The Evil Science Alliance was founded by the Side of Truth..."
"And we, in turn, helped bring about the birth of the Side of Truth."
Li Cheng nodded, his expression complicated.
The Evil Science Alliance behaves relatively well on Earth because GOC, the Special Affairs Bureau and other guilds jointly supervise them,
but in Script Worlds? The sky is high and the Emperor far away.
Omega, as the Ten Thousand Souls Banner’s improver, had already drawn killing karma equivalent to hundreds of millions of lives,
If he himself entered the field, he’d better not, because "saving the Side of Truth, indirectly causing the Evil Science Alliance to be founded" alone could bring killing karma equivalent to tens of billions of lives.
That would be way too unfair.
Li Cheng muttered, "John Kuehberg’s warning is right in front of us..."
"Kuehberg?"
"A German Priest. Rumor has it, when he was young he saved a drowning child about his age named Xi’er; years later the latter applied to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, failed the exam, and declared ’If I don’t get in, I’ll start a Second World War’."
Li Cheng said offhandedly, then bounced to his feet and leapt down into the Beast Fighting Arena under all kinds of gazes around him.
