Chapter 219: Lending a Hand.

A short while earlier,

The enormous jaws continued closing around them as Samu’dra swam upward at full speed.

Jake stared toward the faint sunlight above, watching it grow smaller and smaller as it slowly disappeared behind the rows of massive teeth.

Even with Samu’dra’s incredible speed, at this rate, they wouldn’t make it.

The pressure in the water increased as the beast’s mouth tightened, and the surrounding darkness seemed to swallow them whole.

’Damn it... think! There has to be a way out!’

Jake’s mind raced as he desperately searched for a solution.

His eyes darted around the enormous mouth, trying to find even the slightest opening between the rows of massive teeth, but no matter where he looked, the same terrifying sight greeted him.

The jaws were closing from above and below, leaving them with less and less space to escape.

Jake gritted his teeth.

’If we keep going up, we’ll never make it past those teeth...!’

His gaze shifted toward the darkness below.

’And going down means heading straight into its throat...’

Neither option was good.

Yet the jaws continued closing, giving them less and less time to think.

Jake tightened his grip around Aria and glanced at Samu’dra.

’Come on... there has to be something!’

Just as Jake was about to force himself to make a desperate move, he suddenly heard something.

... A faint sound seemed to echo through the water.

[Hmph.]

Jake froze and looked around in confusion.

’...What was that?’

Then to his surprise, a faint light suddenly began appearing around them.

At first, it was barely noticeable, with tiny specks of light flickering through the dark water.

However, the lights quickly gathered together and formed a thin layer of glowing energy around Jake, Aria, and Samu’dra.

The light continued spreading until it completely surrounded the three of them, forming a transparent bubble that pushed the surrounding water away.

Jake stared at it in confusion.

Aria also looked around with bewilderment, while Samu’dra remained cautious as she examined the strange barrier.

’What is this?’

None of them understood where the light had come from.

Yet strangely, the moment the bubble appeared, the crushing pressure of the water disappeared, and they found themselves able to breathe normally again.

Jake slowly raised a hand and touched the glowing barrier.

It was warm.

And somehow... it felt familiar.

Then, without warning, something appeared in the darkness.

At first, Jake thought it was merely a distortion in the water, but the faint shape gradually became clearer until it took the form of a blurry hand made entirely of pale light.

It seemed to emerge from nowhere, as though the hand had simply manifested from the air and the void itself, with no visible arm or body connected to it.

Jake’s eyes widened as he stared at the strange apparition.

The mysterious hand slowly reached toward the glowing bubble surrounding them before gently pressing its palm against the barrier.

Jake’s expression changed.

"What—"

Before he could finish, the hand suddenly pushed.

BOOOM!!

The bubble shot forward with incredible speed, causing the entire world around them to blur as Jake, Aria, and Samu’dra were carried through the dark water.

Jake instinctively tightened his hold on Aria as they were propelled away, while Samu’dra struggled to keep herself steady inside the rapidly moving bubble.

For a brief moment, Jake could only stare at the darkness rushing past them.

"What in the world is happening...?"

For several seconds, he could do nothing but watch as the world around them blurred at an incomprehensible speed.

The bubble was moving so fast that even with his enhanced senses, Jake couldn’t properly keep track of what was happening outside.

Still, there was one thing he knew for certain.

They were no longer inside that thing’s mouth.

Jake glanced behind them, but there was nothing except the endless darkness of the ocean.

’At least... we escaped that monster.’

He let out a small breath of relief before looking ahead again.

After a brief silence, Aria, who was still in his embrace, hesitantly spoke.

"Jake... what was that hand of light?"

Jake paused at the question and looked at her.

"..."

His gaze shifted toward the darkness ahead as he recalled the strange hand that had appeared from nowhere.

After a moment, he slowly shook his head.

"...I’ve never seen anything like it before."

He paused for a moment before adding, "But..."

His expression became thoughtful.

"That light felt strangely familiar."

Aria blinked.

"Familiar?"

"Yeah."

Jake looked down at his hand, remembering the warmth he had felt when he touched the glowing barrier.

"I don’t know why, but when I touched it, I felt like I’d encountered something similar before."

Hearing that, Aria was silent for a moment before looking toward the darkness ahead.

"Whatever it was, it saved us," she said softly. "So... we should probably thank it."

Jake looked at her for a moment before giving a small smile.

"Yeah... you’re right."

He turned his gaze forward again.

"Whoever it was, we wouldn’t still be here without them."

Suddenly, Samu’dra made a quiet sound.

"Light..."

Her gaze shifted toward the distance behind them.

Jake and Aria, hearing her, immediately turned their heads to look as well.

At first, Jake could only see the endless darkness of the ocean surrounding them.

But as he looked more carefully, he noticed a faint glow gradually approaching.

His eyes widened.

"Is that...?"

The glow continued growing brighter as the bubble carried them forward at incredible speed.

It wasn’t another strange phenomenon.

It was sunlight.

They were approaching the surface.

Soon,

The closer they got, the brighter the surroundings became, and the darkness of the deep ocean gradually gave way to the blue of the open sea.

Jake widened his eyes as sunlight finally broke through the water, and he almost felt tears welling up in his eyes.

He never thought he would feel so emotional just from seeing sunlight.

After everything that had happened, the sight of something so ordinary suddenly felt unbelievably precious.

"Fuck... Finally..."
