Pirate: Crew of Desire and Bonds
Chapter 211: Enchanted Artifact Skill
Silence fell between the two.
Jake stared at Samu’dra for a moment before shaking his head with a helpless smile.
"You’re really not much of a talker, are you?"
Samu’dra simply stared back at him.
Jake chuckled and continued.
"Well, from now on, we’re family. So let’s just get along, alright?"
Samu’dra’s eyes flickered slightly at his words.
"Family..."
Then her huge tail moved slightly, gently tapping the ground.
Jake’s smile broadened.
"Yeah. Family. Oh, and that woman over there, her name is Aria, and she’s part of the family too."
Samu’dra glanced at Aria and softly nodded.
But then, Jake’s gaze shifted toward the two swords lying nearby.
The moment he saw them, his eyes lit up with interest.
After all, these two Enchanted Artifacts had caused him quite a bit of trouble.
He walked closer to the weapons before looking back at Samu’dra.
"Can I take a look?"
Samu’dra followed his gaze toward the two swords.
For a moment, she remained silent.
Then she gave a slow nod.
Jake’s eyes brightened.
"Thanks."
He crouched down and reached for the smaller sword first.
The moment his fingers wrapped around the hilt, a strange sensation suddenly surged through Jake’s hand.
His expression immediately changed.
"Hmm?"
It wasn’t pain.
It was more like... something had suddenly been added to his body.
Jake froze for a moment.
Then, a peculiar realization dawned on him.
For some reason, he knew he could utilize it... this sword skill... one that he could somehow activate simply by wielding the sword.
Jake’s eyes widened slightly at this strange phenomenon.
He looked down at the ordinary-looking blade in his hand.
"So this is an Enchanted Artifact..."
His curiosity immediately grew.
He tightened his grip around the hilt, feeling that unfamiliar power quietly waiting within the sword.
"Interesting..."
Jake’s eyes immediately narrowed with interest as he quickly opened his status.
As he scanned through his skills, his gaze suddenly stopped.
There it was... A new skill.
[Parry Lv. 5]
Jake blinked.
"Parry?"
He stared at the new skill for a moment before glancing back at the sword in his hand.
"So that’s what this sword does..."
During his fight with Samu’dra, this sword had blocked his attack in ways that shouldn’t have been possible, which had almost led to his defeat at the last moment.
And now, after simply holding it, he had gained the ability to do the same.
Somehow, Jake could instinctively understand how the skill worked.
It allowed him to completely parry almost any kind of attack, as long as the attack was below a certain level of strength.
It was simple, but incredibly useful.
But... there was just one problem.
Jake frowned slightly.
The skill had a cooldown of one hour.
"One hour... That’s quite a long cooldown..."
Still, considering the effect, Jake could understand why.
If he timed it properly, this skill could potentially turn a deadly attack into nothing, just like how Samu’dra had nearly turned the tide during their fight.
Jake looked at the sword in his hand with renewed interest.
"Not bad at all."
Then he leaned over and reached for the other greatsword.
The moment his fingers touched the hilt, another strange sensation rushed through his mind.
Once again, a new skill suddenly appeared in his mind.
[Earth Control Lv. 5]
Jake’s eyes widened slightly as he instinctively understood the information contained within the skill.
"So this is its ability... Earth Control."
Earth Control was fairly straightforward.
It allowed him to manipulate the earth within a certain range around him.
However, there was a condition.
The greatsword had to be driven into the ground first.
As long as the blade remained buried in the earth, Jake could control the surrounding soil and rock within the skill’s range.
And as for the cooldown... There wasn’t one.
Instead, using Earth Control would consume a certain amount of the user’s vitality, depending on how much earth they manipulated.
Jake raised an eyebrow.
"So there’s no cooldown because it drains vitality instead..."
It seem as long as he had enough vitality, he could theoretically keep using the skill continuously.
However, there was a limit.
If he used too much vitality, he could become completely drained and even pass out.
And if he pushed the skill beyond his limits, it could begin to damage his own life force.
Jake looked at the greatsword again, his interest in it growing.
What amazed Jake even more was how smoothly Samu’dra had used the skill during their fight.
She hadn’t simply been swinging the greatsword around and recklessly manipulating the earth.
Every time she used it, she seemed to know exactly how much vitality she could afford to spend and when it was worth using.
Even during their battle, she had never pushed herself far enough to become completely drained.
Jake glanced toward Samu’dra.
"That means you already knew exactly how to use this thing..."
Samu’dra merely looked back at him with her usual stoic expression.
Jake couldn’t help but feel impressed.
"Your control over it is pretty damn good."
Jake then handed the weapon back.
For some reason, he could tell that Samu’dra truly treasured these two swords.
They were clearly important to her, and Jake had no intention of taking them for himself.
After all, it would hardly be proper for him to steal the treasures of his own crew.
"Here."
He handed the greatsword back to Samu’dra.
Samu’dra accepted it without a word, holding it firmly in her massive hand.
Jake smiled slightly.
"Don’t worry. I was just curious."
Samu’dra remained silent for a moment.
Then, she suddenly looked toward Jake.
And the usual calmness in her single eye was gone, replaced by a solemn expression.
"Jake..."
Her voice was low and serious.
"We need... to leave..."
Hearing that, Jake’s smile faded.
He immediately noticed the change in her tone.
"Leave?"
Samu’dra gave a slow nod.
"Yes... We cannot stay here... any longer."
Jake frowned.
He glanced around the cavern, then back at the naga.
"Why? Is there something wrong?"
Then Samu’dra’s eye shifted toward the deeper part of the cavern and replied softly.
"...Something is coming... Big... and scary one."
