Chapter 83: The Bowl of Water Turns Black

The middle-aged woman’s face was contorted with fury.

"I’m trying to save your child."

"And his condition wasn’t caused by the medicine my godmother prescribed," Chen Qingdi said.

"Who are you?"

"Is it your place to speak here?"

"Besides, everything you’re saying is just nonsense to me."

The middle-aged woman was acting like a total shrew.

This woman was named Zhang Yancai. She had picked up medicine here yesterday, and after giving it to her son, he had ended up in his current state.

That was why Zhang Yancai was so furious and had come storming in this morning.

She had already smashed many things around the shop.

Witnessing this scene, Chen Qingdi naturally felt a surge of anger.

For Zhang Yancai to act so rashly and indiscriminately was simply bullying.

"Godmother, get some rest. I’ll handle this."

Chen Qingdi helped Lin Zhongxue to a chair on the side.

Lin Zhongxue smiled and nodded. If Chen Qingdi hadn’t arrived at this critical moment, she truly wouldn’t have known what to do.

"You’ll handle it? How are you going to handle it?"

"Can you give me back my son? He’s the only son I have."

"And he’s a model student every single year."

"So outstanding, only to be killed by you quack doctors! Give me back my son!"

As Zhang Yancai spoke, she lunged at Chen Qingdi without a care for right or wrong.

Chen Qingdi gave her a light push, easily shoving her away.

"I will give you back a son who’s alive and kicking."

"Your son isn’t dead."

"I can revive him right now."

"If I can’t, it won’t be too late for you to smash this shop then," Chen Qingdi said, his face full of confidence.

"Really? You’re not lying to me?"

"All these people are watching."

A flicker of hope appeared in Zhang Yancai’s eyes.

She naturally hoped her son would live.

"Of course I’m telling the truth. Why would I lie to you?" Chen Qingdi said.

"I’m right here in front of you. It’s not like I can run away. Just give me a few minutes," Chen Qingdi added.

"Fine. If my son lives, I’ll let you off the hook," Zhang Yancai said, wiping away tears from time to time.

With Chen Qingdi taking action, Lin Zhongxue wasn’t the least bit worried. She knew what he was capable of; he had saved her from the brink of death before.

At that moment, Chen Qingdi slowly knelt down, then raised his head to look at Lin Qingmeng who was off to the side.

"Qing Meng, bring me the silver needles," Chen Qingdi said.

"Okay."

Lin Qingmeng quickly handed the pouch of silver needles to Chen Qingdi.

Chen Qingdi took out several silver needles and inserted them directly into a few of the boy’s acupoints.

Then he had Lin Qingmeng bring him a bowl of water.

He then placed the bowl of water on the child’s body.

"What’s the meaning of this?"

Zhang Yancai was utterly bewildered, completely unable to understand what he was doing.

"You’ll know soon enough," Chen Qingdi said with a calm expression.

"Who treats people like this? I’ve never seen anything like it," Zhang Yancai said, shaking her head.

But Chen Qingdi offered no explanation.

He then traced his fingers along the boy’s meridians, slowly pushing upwards.

A moment later, the water in the bowl astonishingly began to turn black.

This terrified Zhang Yancai.

"What’s happening?"

Zhang Yancai stared at the scene in disbelief, already scared witless by what was unfolding before her.

"Don’t be afraid. Your son was poisoned and you didn’t even know."

"Someone must have poisoned him. I’m just forcing the poison out of his body."

"The only reason I placed a bowl of water here was to give you a clear visual," Chen Qingdi explained.

This time, Zhang Yancai was finally convinced.

She never imagined her son had actually been poisoned.

’But how on earth did he get poisoned?’

"You heard that, Doctor Zhongxue? You poisoned my son!"

"This young man just said it himself! My son was poisoned!"

Zhang Yancai glared menacingly at Lin Zhongxue.

"This has nothing to do with my godmother."

"It was a poison unrelated to the medicinal herbs."

"After your son went home yesterday, besides taking the prescribed medicine, did he eat anything else?" Chen Qingdi asked.

"No," Zhang Yancai shook her head.

"Think carefully. Otherwise, your son could be poisoned again after you go home."

"I’m afraid someone wants to harm your son."

"And you’re completely unaware," Chen Qingdi said in a heavy tone.

Hearing Chen Qingdi’s words, Zhang Yancai jumped in fright and began to carefully recall everything about her son.

A moment later, Zhang Yancai seemed to remember something.

She then pulled out a pack of chewing gum.

"My son has been really into this flavor of gum recently."

"When we were coming here today, he just said his stomach hurt. He wasn’t dead yet, but his face was frighteningly pale, so I rushed him over."

"But I never expected that after we got here, my son would collapse," Zhang Yancai said.

Chen Qingdi quickly took the pack of gum from Zhang Yancai’s hand.

He looked at the gum for a moment but didn’t see anything unusual at first.

He sniffed it; the smell and everything else seemed normal.

"I need to take a closer look."

With that, Chen Qingdi stood up, walked to a table, and broke a piece of gum in half, wanting to examine its composition.

He wouldn’t have known if he hadn’t looked, but one glance gave Chen Qingdi a start.

"There’s something wrong with this gum," Chen Qingdi said.

"What could possibly be wrong with a piece of gum?"

Zhang Yancai didn’t believe him and immediately shook her head.

"Yeah, what could be wrong with some gum?"

"Isn’t that a bit of a stretch?"

Similar voices soon arose from the surrounding crowd.

"Fine, since none of you believe me."

"Alright, Qing Meng, bring me another bowl of water," Chen Qingdi said.

Chen Qingdi knew the moment he broke it open that the gum was poisoned.

But he had to admit, the poisoned gum was craftily made. Without a close look, it was impossible to see where the poison was hidden.

’This is a rather sophisticated method.’

But from what Chen Qingdi could see, Zhang Yancai was just an ordinary person.

’Using such an advanced poison to kill a child... what’s really going on here?’

In short, Chen Qingdi felt there was a huge conspiracy behind this, but as for what that conspiracy was, he still wasn’t clear.

However, as long as he followed the clues starting with this child, he was certain he could get to the bottom of it.

’This isn’t the time to think about all that. I need to save the boy first.’

Lin Qingmeng quickly ran over with a bowl of water.

"Brother, here’s the water you wanted."

Lin Qingmeng placed the water in front of Chen Qingdi.

"Thanks."

Chen Qingdi nodded.
