Chapter 219: Ye Shiqi’s Defection

Ye Shiqi stood at the entrance of Jinghai Base, feeling both nervous and expectant. She had made her decision: she would defect to the Dragon Country, revealing the secrets of the Evil God Sect and her own past. She took a deep breath and walked inside.

In Captain Zhao’s office, she sat down and looked at the man across from her. Captain Zhao was a stern-looking man, but his eyes held a hint of confusion and curiosity.

"Ye Shiqi, have you made up your mind?" Captain Zhao asked.

"Yes, I have," Ye Shiqi replied. "I am willing to defect to the Dragon Country and tell you everything I know."

Captain Zhao nodded, then pulled a cup of coffee from a drawer and placed it in front of Ye Shiqi. "Here’s some hot coffee. Drink some, it’ll help you relax."

Ye Shiqi picked up the coffee and took a sip. She began to calm down.

"You know the Dragon Country’s stance on defectors," Captain Zhao said. "We need to know your entire past, especially the case involving that bar owner."

Ye Shiqi took a deep breath and began to recount the case in detail. She explained how she had been used by the Evil God Sect and how she had killed that lecherous bar owner. She spoke with stark honesty, holding nothing back. She knew this was a past she had to confront.

As Captain Zhao listened to Ye Shiqi’s account, his face remained expressionless, but his gaze grew increasingly focused.

"Is there anything else you need to tell us?" Captain Zhao asked.

"Yes," Ye Shiqi replied. "I also know about the Evil God Sect’s power structure within the Dragon Country and their plans."

Captain Zhao fell silent for a moment, then said, "We need more information to determine your value to us. We will arrange a meeting for you with one of our senior analysts. She will ask you more questions."

Ye Shiqi nodded. "I understand. I will do everything in my power to help you fight the Evil God Sect."

Captain Zhao stood up and walked to the door. "We’ll arrange for the analyst to meet you. For now, please return to your room and get some rest."

Ye Shiqi left the office and walked back to her room. She knew this was a new beginning, a chance for redemption. She knew her defection wouldn’t be accepted so easily, but she also knew that only through her actions could she earn their trust.

In the days she spent waiting for the analyst, Ye Shiqi found herself constantly reflecting on her past. ’My past is filled with sin and pain, but I have to face it. Only then can I truly begin a new life.’

A few days later, Ye Shiqi met with the analyst. She was a middle-aged woman with an incredibly sharp gaze. Over the next several hours, the analyst peppered Ye Shiqi with questions. Ye Shiqi answered everything as thoroughly and accurately as she could. The analyst seemed very satisfied with her responses.

"We will conduct a further evaluation of your information," the analyst said. "In the meantime, you are to remain here at the base."

Ye Shiqi nodded. "I understand."

The analyst left the room, leaving Ye Shiqi alone. She sat quietly, her heart a mix of unease and anticipation. She knew she had done her best, but only the final verdict would truly set her mind at ease.

Several days later, Captain Zhao sought out Ye Shiqi again. He informed her that the Dragon Country had decided to accept her defection and would allow her to atone for her past crimes through meritorious service. Hearing this, Ye Shiqi felt an immense sense of relief and gratitude. She knew this was her new beginning—her chance to make amends.

"We need you to remain here at the base for now," Captain Zhao said. "We have to further evaluate and investigate the intelligence you’ve provided. In the meantime, we will provide you with all necessary assistance and support."

Ye Shiqi nodded. "I understand. I’ll do everything I can to help you fight the Evil God Sect."

The sky was overcast that day, the air thick with moisture. Chen Qingdi stood in the War God Office at Jinghai Base, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon beyond the window.

"Commander Chen, they’ve all arrived," a guard announced, walking in and interrupting his thoughts.

Chen Qingdi nodded slightly and turned. He saw Ye Shiqi and Yang Shuhua standing in the middle of his office. A small smile touched his lips as he walked over to greet them. "Ladies, you’re both looking well today."

Yang Shuhua gave a hearty laugh and began to speak.

"Oh, stop teasing us, Commander Chen. We know what you’re up to—you want to send us out on a mission so you can get some peace and quiet."

Chen Qingdi burst out laughing. "Captain Yang, you know me too well. But you’ve guessed wrong this time. I’ve actually brought you two here for an important mission."

Ye Shiqi and Yang Shuhua exchanged a surprised glance. Yang Shuhua asked, "And what mission would that be?"

In a somber tone, Chen Qingdi said, "To strike at the Evil God Sect."

Ye Shiqi and Yang Shuhua were both stunned. The Evil God Sect had always been a major scourge, but they never imagined Chen Qingdi would entrust such a critical mission to them.

Yang Shuhua took a deep breath. "Understood. We will not disappoint you, Commander."

Chen Qingdi nodded in approval. "I know your capabilities. You and Deputy Ye will have full authority over this operation."

Ye Shiqi, also stirred, said, "Thank you for your trust, Commander. We will not let you down."

Not long after, the squad led by Ye Shiqi and Yang Shuhua successfully raided a secret Evil God Sect stronghold in Jinghai. The stronghold was of great significance to the cult; its loss would be a tremendous blow to them.

At the celebration feast, Chen Qingdi drank a great deal. He gazed at Ye Shiqi, his eyes hazy with drink, and mumbled, "Ye Shi Yi, you..."

Ye Shiqi froze. Thinking Chen Qingdi had called her by the wrong name, she was just about to correct him when he continued speaking.

"I’m sorry, I’ve had too much to drink. You just... you look so much like your sister, Ye Shi Yi. I always hoped she would be safe. Now, seeing you... I..."

Ye Shiqi watched Chen Qingdi in surprise. The man was always so stern and severe; she had never seen him show this kind of emotion.

She listened quietly as Chen Qingdi went on, "I hope you can fulfill your sister’s wish in her stead... and defeat the Evil God Sect."

Ye Shiqi said nothing, merely watching him in silence. She didn’t know what to say, but a warmth spread through her heart.

Just then, Yang Shuhua walked over and said to Chen Qingdi with a hint of disapproval, "Commander, you’ve clearly had too much to drink. Deputy Ye is not the fragile woman you seem to think she is."
