Chapter 827: 827
Hall’s expression changed.
"Move!"
The cannon fired.
A powerful beam tore through the prison.
One of the Black Thorns didn’t have enough time to escape.
The attack struck him directly.
His body disappeared in an instant and was completely incinerated, leaving nothing behind but a cloud of dust.
The surrounding Black Thorns froze for a fraction of a second.
Hall’s eyes narrowed.
"Don’t stop!"
The assassins immediately continued moving.
The mages fought desperately. Some relied on barriers while others used fire, lightning and wind spells. A few fought with staffs and swords when the Black Thorns closed the distance.
The battle became chaotic.
The Black Thorns had the advantage in close combat, but the mages had enough firepower to threaten them whenever they were given room. Several assassins were injured while trying to break through the magical formations.
Hall moved through the battlefield like a shadow.
He avoided a lightning spell and threw a dagger into the hand of a mage who was preparing another spell. Before the mage could react, Hall reached him and struck him across the neck.
Another mage tried to attack Hall from behind.
Hall noticed the movement and ducked.
The spell passed over his head.
He turned and drove his elbow into the mage’s stomach before finishing him with a short blade.
Around him, the other Black Thorns continued their assault.
One assassin fought with twin daggers, constantly changing his position and attacking from blind spots. Another used a thin sword and focused on precise strikes against the joints. A third relied on hand-to-hand combat, breaking through barriers with heavy punches before finishing his opponents with hidden blades.
The mages fought back until the very end but they were gradually pushed back.
One after another, they fell.
After a brief but fierce fight, the chamber finally became quiet.
Bodies lay scattered across the floor while several injured Black Thorns stood among them, breathing heavily.
One of the surviving assassins approached Hall.
"We subdued them."
Hall looked around the chamber.
His gaze moved over the fallen Black Thorns before stopping on the dead mage beside the cannon-like weapon.
"What about the casualties!"
The assassin’s expression became heavy.
"12 are dead Sir."
Hall’s expression was distorted when he heard this.
His hands slowly tightened into fists as he looked at the battlefield in silence.
After subduing the mages, the Black Thorns began searching through the hidden base. Hall personally led several groups deeper into the hideout while the others spread out and searched every room.
The deeper they went, the worse the place became.
They eventually reached a large underground chamber that clearly wasn’t meant for storage or living.
It was an experimentation room.
Large tables covered the chamber, and strange equipment was scattered everywhere. Glass containers filled with unknown liquids stood against the walls, while several magical formations had been carved into the floor. Some contained traces of dried blood, while others were still active.
There were cages of different sizes placed around the room.
Some were large enough to hold beasts while others were barely big enough for a human.
The Black Thorns remained silent as they looked around.
There were records of different experiments lying on tables. Some described the effects of beast parts on the human body. Others recorded methods of extracting life essence and storing it inside containers. There were also strange magical devices designed to examine the body and soul.
The further they searched, the more heinous the place became.
The Devine Family had researched almost everything they could think of. They had experimented on humans, beasts, magical creatures and even different combinations of their body parts. Some experiments had been carried out to increase strength while others were focused on extracting life essence and converting it into usable energy.
Hall’s expression became colder as he looked around.
This wasn’t simply a laboratory.
It was a place where countless lives had been treated like objects.
After finding out about these places, Ethan had ordered his men to clear every such filthy hideout. They weren’t the only ones searching. Several other groups had been sent to different locations and were moving to destroy the hidden hideouts spread across the territory.
Hall walked past another table and noticed a strange container.
Something dark was floating inside it.
He didn’t bother looking at it for long.
"Destroy everything."
The Black Thorns immediately began searching for anything that could lead them to another hidden location while the others started clearing the laboratory.
They had barely moved deeper into the chamber when hurried footsteps came from the passage.
"Sir Hall, we have found an escape route." One of them informed him.
Hall immediately turned toward him.
"Lead the way."
The Black Thorn nodded and quickly moved ahead.
Hall followed him through several narrow corridors before they reached a concealed passage behind a stone wall.
The passage was old and narrow.
It led deep underground and continued far beyond the Devine Family’s hideout.
Hall crouched down and examined the ground.
There were faint traces of movement.
Someone had clearly used this passage recently.
"Send people inside."
"Yes."
Several Black Thorns immediately entered the tunnel.
Hall remained outside and waited.
The passage was unusually quiet.
A few minutes passed.
Then the Black Thorns returned.
Their expressions were grim.
"Sir, they have escaped. We don’t know what it was."
Hall’s expression turned cold.
"Bastard.."
His hands slowly tightened into fists as he looked into the dark tunnel.
Whoever had escaped had clearly known about this passage before they arrived.
Hall didn’t waste another moment.
"Quickly order the guard to surround the entire territory. Whoever it is, we can’t allow him to escape. I want their heads now."
"Yes!"
The Black Thorns gave a deep bow and moved out swiftly across the hideout.
......
A group of people slowly pulled a large cart through a hidden path. The cart was heavily loaded and the wheels made a rough sound as they moved across the uneven ground. It was covered with a thick cloth, making it difficult to see what was inside.
However, if someone had looked closer, they would have been astonished.
The cart was filled with piles of rings.
Hundreds of storage rings were stacked together inside it. Each ring contained various things that had been collected by the family over the years. Weapons, artifacts, rare materials and other valuable items were all stored inside those rings.
A man with a strange appearance stood beside the cart. His arms were covered with the features of beasts, making him look different from an ordinary human. He stood silently while facing a cloaked man who had been waiting for them.
"As promised we are transferring weaponry and various artifacts as ordered."
The cloaked man looked toward the cart before raising his eyes toward the strange man.
"You know how to use it."
The cloaked man stared at him for a moment and nodded.
"We will follow the declaration and if we achieve our dreams we will establish the heir you carefully nurtured."
The man with the beast hands remained silent.
His gaze was profound as he looked at the cloaked figure.
How much of those words was true and how much was false, no one knew.
Before the family moved, they had already given instructions regarding a set of Young Masters. Although they were supposed to remain inconspicuous, they were to be taken to the group of cloaked figures for protection in exchange for all the weapons and artifacts along with various other things.
It was a final arrangement made before everything collapsed.
But no one knew if the other side would keep their words once they received what they wanted.
The Young Masters weren’t Royals who could be used to proclaim sovereignty. They had no throne or authority that could give the group a reason to protect them.
They would simply become a part of a family that had already lost all its strength.
The man with the beast hands understood that very well.
Still, there was nothing else he could do.
The cloaked man turned around and looked at him.
"What are you going to do?"
"I..." He paused.
His gaze slowly moved toward the vast sky above them. For a moment, he remained silent while remembering the order he had received.
The situation had already become too dangerous. The forces searching for the remaining members of the family were spreading across the territory, and staying in one place for too long would only make things worse.
"I don’t think I can escape so instead of running, I will go to the centre of the storm."
The cloaked man looked at him with a faint frown.
"Centre of Storm..Where is that?"
The man with the beast hands looked toward the distant horizon.
"To Blanks."
The cloaked man remained silent after hearing those words.
The man turned away and looked toward the vast sky once again. He knew that going there might be dangerous, but continuing to run without a destination would not save him either.
At least in the centre of the storm, he might find the answer he was looking for.
