Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 107: Look At The Sky
"Watch your left!" Zephyra called out in a sharp but playful voice.
The wooden practice dagger whipped through the morning air, heading straight for Evren’s ribs.
Standing barefoot on the firm white sand in dark athletic shorts and a lightweight training tee, Evren shifted his left foot back two inches. With an open palm, he tapped the flat of the wooden blade, smoothly deflecting the strike past his hip.
Before his hand could even pull back, Zephyra was already moving.
Dressed in fitted black training leggings and an athletic tank top, her silver hair pulled back into a high ponytail, her arms moved with the terrifying fluidity of a true S-Rank assassin.
With a subtle twitch of her fingers, the practice dagger in her right hand flipped into a reverse grip mid-air. She slashed upward in a tight, blinding arc toward Evren’s chest, while her left dagger thrust straight at his shoulder.
Evren’s eyes tracked both hands easily with Kinetic Flow.
His bare palms moved like lightning, catching both wooden wrists right at the joint before the blades could make contact. The impact was clean, solid, and completely painless for Zephyra.
Her shoulders didn’t tense, her conduits didn’t burn, and her grip on both wooden hilts stayed as solid as forged iron.
A bright, genuine grin broke across Zephyra’s face.
"Not bad, Z," Evren chuckled, holding her wrists in place. "That hand speed is lethal. I actually had to pay attention."
"That’s because my hands finally listen to me," Zephyra teased, her violet eyes flashing with competitive fire. "I haven’t felt this fast since before the ambush."
She dropped her weight instantly, pulling her right wrist free and sweeping her left leg low across the sand to take his footing. At the same time, she snapped her left dagger downward in a lightning feint toward his knee.
Evren hopped lightly over the sweep, stepping forward into her guard. He caught her right wrist again, twisting his hips to redirect her momentum.
Zephyra twisted in mid-air to break the hold, but the soft sand gave way beneath her toes.
THUD.
The two of them tumbled together onto the warm white sand, rolling twice before coming to a stop near the edge of the lapping ocean tide.
Zephyra ended up on her back, breathless and laughing, with Evren pinned gently over her, his hands planted firmly in the sand on either side of her shoulders. Her silver hair was tossed wildly across the white grains, and her chest heaved as she stared up into his eyes.
Her cheeks were flushed a radiant pink, but there was no fear or hesitation in her gaze... only pure, unrestrained happiness.
"Yield?" Evren asked with a teasing smirk.
Zephyra let the wooden daggers slip from her fingers, resting her palms against his warm chest. "Only because you have more weight than me, Chairman."
A sharp whistle blew from the shade of the cabana thirty feet away.
Amber was lounging comfortably on a wide daybed, wearing oversized designer sunglasses, a breezy cream linen resort set from their boutique haul, and holding a sweating glass pitcher of iced mango lemonade.
She had a referee whistle dangling from her fingers and was laughing so hard her shoulders shook.
"Match point goes to the Chairman by pinfall!" Amber called out, raising a crystal flute in salute. "Though I give our Chief Shadow Guardian a ten out of ten for style! Come get some lemonade before you two melt in the sun!"
Evren chuckled and stood up, extending a hand down to Zephyra.
Zephyra took it without hesitation. Her grip was tight and firm as Evren effortlessly pulled her to her feet, brushing a few stray grains of sand from her cheek.
"Your arms felt completely loose," Evren said, studying her face. "Any stiffness? Any throbbing in the conduits?"
Zephyra slowly rolled both shoulders, rotating her wrists in full circles. A look of quiet wonder passed over her features.
"None," she whispered. "Before now, every time I held a hilt, my fingers cramped into knots. Now... it feels like the cuts were never there."
"Told you we’d get your arms back," Evren smiled, draping an arm over her shoulder as they walked toward the cabana.
They stepped into the cool shade of the pavilion. Amber handed each of them a tall glass of chilled mango lemonade, leaning back against the plush cushions with a happy sigh.
"If every morning on vacation was like this, I’d never want to leave," Amber smiled, sipping her drink. "Sun, sand, zero paperwork, and no annoying guild elders breathing down our necks."
"Don’t get too comfortable, Vice-Chairman," Evren said with a soft laugh, taking a long sip of the sweet, icy lemonade. "We still have a metropolis to run once we get back."
"Let a girl dream for five more minutes," Amber groaned playfully, tossing a soft cushion at his chest.
Zephyra sat between them, tucking her legs beneath her as she held her cold glass with both hands. The quiet ocean breeze rustled the sheer white curtains of the cabana, and the rhythmic sound of crashing waves created a peaceful, idyllic silence.
For the first time in as long as any of them could remember, the world felt completely calm.
Then, the ground began to shake.
RUMBLE...
At first, it was subtle... like a faint vibration running through the soles of their bare feet that caused the lemonade in their flutes to ripple.
Evren stopped mid-sip, his eyes narrowing instantly.
"Evren?" Amber asked, lowering her glass as the wooden floorboards of the cabana began to rattle. "Is that an offshore earthquake?"
"No," Zephyra said, her voice turning completely rigid. She set her glass on the low teak table, her assassin instincts flaring to life. "The mana density in the air just spiked. Sharply."
BOOOOOOM!
A violent tectonic crack tore through the bedrock beneath the coastline, loud enough to rattle the villa’s high glass windows.
Down along the shoreline, the ocean water suddenly receded by twenty yards, revealing the slick, exposed rocks of the shallow reefs.
WAAAAAIL! WAAAAAIL! WAAAAAIL!
High-pitched coastal emergency sirens began screaming from the watchtowers of the Sapphire Coast resort strip half a mile down the beach.
Evren vaulted over the railing of the cabana, landing on the sand with Amber and Zephyra right behind him.
"Look at the sky!" Amber gasped, pointing south toward the public resort beach.
Half a mile down the shoreline, the bright morning sky seemed to shatter like brittle glass.
A jagged, fifty-foot dimensional tear ripped open in the air above the water’s edge. Pulsing with violent purple-and-black mana, the rift spat clouds of dark, sulfurous vapor across the resort beach.
Dozens of terrified screams echoed down the coast as hundreds of tourists and beachgoers scrambled away from the water in panic.
SCREEECH!
A guttural, wet shriek echoed from the tear as the first wave of rift beasts began clawing their way through the dimensional threshold, dropping onto the sand like bloated, armored spiders.
Amber’s expression turned dead serious, all traces of vacation relaxation vanishing in an instant. "A wild Dimensional Rift! Right on the tourist coastline!"
Zephyra stepped forward, fixing her eyes on the expanding tear as a fierce spark ignited in her gaze. "Evren... Let me go."
Evren looked down at her, seeing no fear, lingering trauma, or hesitation... only a warrior ready to reclaim her battlefield.
His lips curved into a smile. "We go together."
