Chapter 1732: Lychee, Sweet Wine, Time to Call Me Brother
She’s not being pursued by anyone, whereas someone else is being chased by a group, yet he still doesn’t fancy them—it’s the dry dying of drought while the others drown in floods.
Thinking this in her heart, combined with the unstable sandy beach, she twisted her foot and almost fell...
Yan Chi frowned, his eyes swift and hands faster, wanting to grab her small arm, to steady her. But Jiang Ruan’s reaction was quick too; just as his hand reached out, she caught hold of it...
The result—
Before Yan Chi’s fingers could grasp her, she had tightly grabbed his hand!
Clutching tight.
Unlike the handshake yesterday, today his hand was slightly cool, while hers was scorching hot...
Jiang Ruan instinctively wanted to hold onto something to steady herself, not intentionally to grab his hand; it just happened that his hand extended over, everything was just right.
Just as she was thinking whether she should let go, Yan Chi suddenly applied some strength.
Holding her back—
The slightly cool touch seemed to dissipate the heat in her palm.
He was so tall, with long arms and legs, with just a bit of force, Jiang Ruan’s body felt light, and she stumbled a step towards him, the only remaining distance between them a mere breath, as if their breaths suddenly collided.
Litchi, sweet wine, leaving an endless sweetness behind.
"Still standing there, did no sand get into your shoes?" Yan Chi said in a low voice.
Jiang Ruan had just twisted her foot, and half her shoe was buried in the sand. She was wearing little white shoes today, which easily let in fine sand, so he had pulled her back.
"Seems not," Jiang Ruan nodded quietly.
Earlier when she caught hold of Yan Chi, at this moment their fingers were intertwined, as if his palm had absorbed her heat, feeling as though the temperature was slightly higher than hers.
With the light behind, his tall figure cast a shadow over her.
Making her breath suddenly feel constrained.
"Thank you, Uncle..." Jiang Ruan thanked him, loosening her fingers, thinking she could smoothly withdraw them from his hand, but unexpectedly...
She loosened!
But—
Yan Chi held her, not easing his grip in the slightest.
His grip wasn’t heavy, just firmly wrapping around her hand, their palms exchanging heat, as if their warmth had merged into one.
"Yan..." Her wrist applied a bit more strength, trying to draw her hand back.
"Uncle Yan? I remember when you were little... you didn’t call me that."
"Actually..." His voice was low.
"Calling me brother wouldn’t be too much."
Brother?
This instantly reminded Jiang Ruan of that dream, her face blushing slightly, appearing more tender and enticing than a ripe litchi.
The waves crashed, just like his voice, one stirred the ears, the other shook the soul.
As soon as Yan Chi finished speaking, he let go of her hand. The warmth from his hand departed as the sea breeze blew, yet the heat on her body didn’t diminish but rose instead. Even after getting in the car, Jiang Ruan still felt the warmth lingering in her palm.
...
Entering the car on a hot day, before the air conditioning could kick in, it was naturally stuffy and hot, especially after Jiang Ruan had had some litchi wine, making her feel even more restless even as the air conditioning blew.
This litchi wine, perhaps its after-effects were too strong.
She glanced sidelong at Yan Chi, who seemed to have just rolled down his sleeves, slowly and elegantly folding them back up. On his right wrist, there was a noticeable red mark, possibly because she had grabbed too hard earlier, leaving a mark on him.
The beach was too dark, and without much pain, Yan Chi only noticed the red mark around his wrist after getting in the car and chuckled softly:
"Yesterday you left a water stain on my clothes, today..."
"You’ve left a mark on me."
What a thing to say, what does he mean by leaving a mark on him!
With his expression so serious, it made Jiang Ruan feel like she was overthinking it.
Her face flushed, both warm and hot...
The faint scent of litchi lingered in the car, while the heat on her face remained unabated!
Drinking didn’t turn her face red, yet one sentence from him made her blush furiously.
