Chapter 1722: Yan Family Uncle? Clueless "Junior Schoolmate"?
Jiang Ruan couldn’t pry open Jiang Mutang’s mouth, and as she set out to return to school, she was still feeling disheartened. Jiang Chengsi noticed his daughter wasn’t too happy and specially had a heart-to-heart with her, asking if something was wrong.
"Nothing much, just thinking about going back to school, a bit reluctant to leave home."
"That’s why you shouldn’t have gone so far away for college. Now, do you see how much better home is?"
Although Jiang Chengsi said this, he was quite pleased inside, thinking his daughter couldn’t bear to leave him. He even decided to give her a bit more living allowance.
Si Qingxiao was somewhat speechless; how could he believe whatever his daughter said? This girl was never anything but excited when school started; only he would buy the unwilling-to-leave story.
Jiang Chengsi even thought about sending her off to school, but Jiang Ruan quickly rejected the idea. She chose a school so far away just to avoid interference from the family.
Not being able to hear the gossip about her cousin was undoubtedly a pity, but upon returning to school, reuniting with her long-separated dorm-mates, eating out and shopping together, gossiping, life naturally becomes fulfilling.
That day, without classes, some of the others in the dorm were browsing the school forum.
"There’s a really handsome guy in the freshman Science Department this year."
"Science Department? Isn’t that in the old campus? Otherwise, we could go check him out."
"Just how handsome is he? More handsome than Senior Yan Chi?"
...
Hearing Yan Chi’s name, Jiang Ruan’s fingers paused as she was looking down playing on her phone.
Speaking of Yan Chi, Jiang Ruan should have met him at some point, but he didn’t leave much of an impression. Yet, she often heard her grandfather mention him.
Her grandfather’s relationship with Yan Chi’s father was probably very good, but since the Si family moved back to Beijing, the entire work focus shifted to Beijing as well. With grandchildren being born and everyone busy with their own lives, coupled with reduced business interactions, even the closest relationships can fade.
This is how human relationships are; without long-term maintenance, they inevitably become distant. And besides, the Mr. Yan from Nanjiang is said to be a cold and indifferent person.
At least in Jiang Ruan’s memory, she has no impression of the Yan family.
It’s just that when she applied here, Si Yushan said:
"That Yan Chi seems to be at the school Ruan Ruan applied to."
You Yunzhi even said at the time, "That’s great, we could let him help look after her."
The Si family even had this thought; Si Yushan even called the Yan family, but Jiang Ruan wasn’t privy to their conversation details. Just later, Si Yushan told her:
"Your brother Yan Chi said that if you have any matters, you can find him anytime."
"Brother?" Si Qingxiao, sitting on one side, couldn’t help laughing, "Dad, isn’t the seniority a bit off here? Yan Chi should be my generation."
"Then he’s Uncle Yan Chi."
Jiang Ruan: "..."
Uncle?
What is that supposed to mean?
"Speaking of which, do you remember the time when I took you to Nanjiang and he almost lost you while playing?" Si Yushan chuckled.
Jiang Ruan couldn’t remember at all; at that moment, she was still dwelling on the ’uncle’ issue internally.
Jiang Ruan went to school for the first time by herself. Her family wanted to send her, but she disagreed, feeling she was a college student now and could handle things on her own.
"So when you get to Nanjiang, if anything comes up, you can find Yan Chi." Jiang Chengsi also gave her a few words of advice.
When Jiang Ruan arrived in Nanjiang, the Yan family called her several times to invite her over for a meal, which she tactfully refused. She wasn’t familiar with the Yan family, so how could she brazenly take advantage of her grandfather’s name to bother them?
They were being polite because of her grandfather’s friendship and face, but she couldn’t be oblivious to the social cues and truly impose.
Moreover...
Once she went, she would inexplicably have an extra uncle, and she certainly didn’t want to call someone only slightly older than her ’uncle.’
She already had a little uncle and aunt in Beijing at the Huo family, so coming to Nanjiang...
Wouldn’t want to add another uncle.
It was only after arriving at school that she realized just how famous Yan Chi was.
Alongside his fame was his notorious bad temper and unwelcoming demeanor towards strangers.
This resulted in him being so handsome, yet very few girls dared to approach.
The first day Jiang Ruan entered school, she was warned by a senior:
"In our school, besides rules like no cheating, no fighting, there’s one other thing you mustn’t collide with, and that’s Yan Chi!"
"Don’t feel tempted by his family’s wealth or his looks to get close to him."
"You’ll definitely end up hurt, cherish your life, stay away from Yan Chi."
Jiang Ruan hadn’t planned on provoking him anyway, especially since they weren’t even on the same campus. Her campus was newly built, on an island with a bridge connecting to the city, shuttle bus services, and ferries, convenient to get to the city, plus the environment was nice.
