Chapter 291: That Is Not Da Long; It Just Treats Me As Prey
At noon, Lin Chu and Bai Yuanche both returned, and Ning Fei turned off the live stream.
Lin Chu had bought plenty of meat and vegetables for the upcoming New Year. It was clear that she had been in high spirits ever since Ning Fei arrived, preparing a lavish feast for every meal.
After eating, Ning Fei sought out Bai Yuanche for a chat.
Seeing Ning Fei's expression, Bai Yuanche knew exactly what he was going to say and spoke first:
"What, you want to make another trip up the mountain before the New Year, but you're afraid of making your master's wife angry?"
Ning Fei nodded at his master's words.
With New Year's Eve just five or six days away, Ning Fei wanted to visit the Valley of Death one more time. As his elder, Lin Chu naturally wouldn't approve of something so dangerous, and Ning Fei was worried about disappointing her.
"Did you uncover the secret of King Mu of Zhou?" Bai Yuanche asked.
"I'm mostly sure, but I can't guarantee it."
"It's fine, go ahead. I'll talk to your master's wife," Bai Yuanche said. He was very open-minded; he knew exactly what uncovering a heaven-shaking secret during one's travels meant to a member of Qingfeng Temple."Thank you, Master." Ning Fei smiled.
It was better to leave shouldering the pressure to his master.
"Today is Dust Sweeping Day. Dedicate tonight to chanting your scriptures and clearing the dust." On the surface, Bai Yuanche looked perfectly calm, though he knew he was probably in for a scolding later that night.
That evening, Ning Fei first called Bai Yi over to help bathe all the little ones.
After all, they were animals of Qingfeng Temple, so naturally, they had to observe Dust Sweeping Day too.
Once he finished his own bath, Ning Fei changed into the Taichi Sun and Moon robe that had been perfumed with incense all day.
He laid out a meditation cushion in his room and sat upon it with a devout expression.
Chanting scriptures and sweeping the dust simply meant meditating quietly for an hour to clear away distracting thoughts.
Ning Fei sat on the cushion.
Seeing Ning Fei like this, the little ones were all incredibly curious.
Little Dog barked at Ning Fei, then looked at Little Fox, as if asking, "What's wrong with Master?"
Little Fox lay in her bed, looking at Ning Fei, and let out a soft whine, as if answering Little Dog, "I don't know."
Normally at this time, Ning Fei would already be playing with them.
But today, he was unusually quiet.
The little ones gradually grew restless.
Ning Fei could feel one of the Xiao Heijiu scaling his clothes. It reached his shoulder, gave a strong leap, and settled squarely on top of his head.
Little Dog also tried lightly tugging on Ning Fei's sleeve with his teeth.
But Ning Fei still didn't move.
Seeing that Ning Fei had no reaction, the little ones gradually settled down.
Only the little kitten perched on his head found the spot incredibly comfortable and simply fell asleep right there.
During quiet meditation, with the mind completely emptied, time passed quickly.
Before long, Ning Fei opened his eyes. He checked the time; exactly an hour had passed.
Ning Fei looked around. The little ones were asleep all over the floor, and two of the Xiao Heijiu were sprawled across his thighs, one on each.
There was also one on top of his head, resting its chin on his hair, sleeping soundly.
It really was necessary to move around from time to time; otherwise, one could easily start growing cats.
Ning Fei placed all the little ones back into their beds and did a quick cleanup. The rest of the night passed in quiet peace.
The next day, Bai Yuanche and Bai Yi drove Ning Fei to the Valley of Death.
"Brother, you're really going again? You ran into an avalanche last time," Bai Yi said with concern.
"The few days immediately after an avalanche are actually the safest. Don't worry, there won't be any problems," Ning Fei said with a smile, rubbing Bai Yi's hair.
Upon arriving at the Valley of Death, Ning Fei strapped on his hiking bag and stepped out of the car.
Before he left, Bai Yuanche told him, "Remember what I said to you last night."
Hearing this, Ning Fei's gaze shifted slightly, and he immediately replied, "Don't worry, Master."
The night before, Bai Yuanche and Ning Fei had shared a private conversation.
"If you find that gemstone, don't show it on stream, and don't turn it over to the state. Hide it away for yourself." Bai Yuanche had voiced this out of concern that his disciple might be a bit too righteous.
"Alright." Ning Fei nodded without hesitation.
The Huaxia Cultural Relics Protection Law stipulated that if ruins, tombs, or similar sites were discovered in the wild, the discoverer was not allowed to secretly pocket the items inside.
Bai Yuanche hadn't wanted to burden Ning Fei's conscience, so he added, "That gemstone shouldn't be something from Huaxia, which means it isn't a Huaxia cultural relic. Therefore, the law doesn't apply to it."
"Not from Huaxia?" A confused expression appeared between Ning Fei's brows.
"In this world, there might be things that come from unknown places. Such existences might have been around since ancient times," Bai Yuanche explained quietly.
"It's best not to let people know about this kind of thing."
Bai Yuanche seemed to be reminding Ning Fei of something.
Ning Fei carefully pondered Bai Yuanche's words.
Things from unknown places.
He had many of those.
Such as Xiao Feng, Flat Peaches, and Immortal beans.
These were all items drawn from the System, and they did not exist in this world.
Some things should not be made known to the world.
If someone discovered the existence of these things, the entire world might descend into madness.
Standing in the Valley of Death, Ning Fei recalled Bai Yuanche's words and nodded.
Then, Bai Yuanche drove off into the distance, and Ning Fei turned on his live stream as usual.
"The stream is on! The stream is on!"
"First!"
"Such a familiar environment. Did Temple Master Ning come to the Valley of Death again?"
"Don't tell me he faced an avalanche last time and is here to challenge it again?"
"What guts!"
"That's Temple Master Ning for you!"
As soon as the live stream opened, viewers enthusiastically flooded in.
At this moment, Ning Fei was dressed the same as before, carrying a hiking bag with Snowboards and ski poles strapped to the back.
He spoke to the viewers:
"Hello, everyone!"
"As you can see, I've returned to the Valley of Death."
"Today, I want to go up the mountain to take another look."
The viewers watched the stream, their screens filled with vast stretches of pristine white snow that looked exceptionally pure and holy.
Walking through this icy wasteland, Ning Fei looked like he was wandering the Northern Depths Snow Realm of a fantasy world.
Ning Fei looked around.
The night before, he had read the stars and found that the heavens offered absolutely no clues regarding the secret Kunlun treasure.
If that pearl truly possessed miraculous effects, the astrology should have shown some sort of guidance or shift.
Since there was nothing, it meant one of two things: either the pearl was a fake, or some special reason prevented Huaxia's karmic providence from sensing it.
Ning Fei's destination this time remained the highest peak.
He had a premonition that King Mu of Zhou's ritual might have taken place right on top of that peak.
Because of the avalanche last time, he hadn't made the ascent. This time, no matter what, he had to climb up to the glacier at the summit to take a look.
Ning Fei continued walking forward.
While he was still at the foot of the mountain, the rocks were all grayish-black. Because of the perennial cold, their surfaces looked as if they were encased in a layer of frost.
The further up he went, the larger the expanses of white became.
Ning Fei walked for about two hours, until only white snow remained beneath his feet.
Right at this moment, the viewers saw something moving up ahead.
"Look over there, everyone!"
A viewer exclaimed.
"It looks like something is running."
"It's a snow leopard! It's Da Long!"
"Hahaha, to think Da Long came out to welcome Temple Master Ning!"
"I really envy a bond like that."
"Look how fast Da Long is running; he must be thrilled."
"We get to see this cute snow leopard again."
A massive wave of bullet comments drifted across the screen. They all felt that such a scene was tranquil and beautiful.
Returning to the wild and having a wild animal that had lived with you run toward you... that feeling had to be wonderful.
However, when Ning Fei saw the snow leopard bounding toward him.
He could only smile helplessly.
"You're all mistaken."
"That is not Da Long; it's another snow leopard. It's running so fast because it's treating me as prey!"
Hearing Ning Fei's words, the viewers were all stunned.
"What?!"
