As Preston Vance finished speaking, the car pulled to a stop by the curb outside the milk tea shop where Annie York worked. Noticing they had arrived, Annie York took a deep breath. "Thank you for the ride, Mr. Vance. I’ll be going now."

She hurriedly opened the door and rushed back to her workstation without looking back. Even her coworker noticed how absentminded and pale she looked.

"Ann, what’s wrong?" her coworker asked, looking puzzled.

Annie York shook her head. "N-nothing."

The coworker glanced outside, but the Bentley parked on the street was already gone. A look of envy crossed her face. "I saw everything, you know. Did you get yourself a rich boyfriend? Dropping you off at work in a Bentley... If you ask me, since you’re dating someone that wealthy, why are you still working at a milk tea shop? Wouldn’t it be better to just kick back and enjoy the life of a wealthy wife?"

Hearing this, Annie York immediately put on a serious expression. "Don’t talk nonsense. He’s just a friend of a friend. He was merely dropping me off on his way. We aren’t close at all."

Her coworker, however, flashed a knowing smile. "Ah... a friend of a friend? What a coincidence. Oh, come on, don’t deny it. Look, you’re blushing."

"It’s really not like that," Annie York struggled to explain. "Actually, I already have someone I like."

The coworker’s interest was instantly piqued. "Really? Who is it? Tell me! Do I know him?"

Annie York looked away and put on her apron, busying herself as she spoke. "You don’t know him, and it’s impossible between us anyway."

A melancholic expression surfaced on her face, quickly followed by deep disappointment. She thought about how Walker Grant treated her—so cold and distant.

Mr. Grant’s heart belonged only to Chloe. If she really went through with it, he would definitely hate her, wouldn’t he?

But she didn’t want him to hate her. Every time she saw Mr. Grant looking at Chloe with such deep devotion, she felt incredibly envious. She wanted to be looked at with that kind of infatuation, too.

Noticing the downcast look on her face, the coworker said, "Why would you say that? Have you even tried? Did you go after him? Have you confessed your feelings to the person you like? You haven’t done anything, so how can you be so sure it’s impossible? What if he likes you too? Ann, you’re pretty, and you have such a sweet personality. You’re actually very lovable. I’ll let you in on a secret—our manager actually has a crush on you too."

Annie York hurriedly said, "Stop talking nonsense and get back to work."

The coworker chuckled. "You still don’t believe me, but why would I lie to you? Sigh... why doesn’t the manager like me? If he did, I wouldn’t be working as a server anymore. Who doesn’t want to live a good life?"

Ignoring her rambling, Annie York headed straight to the storeroom to keep herself busy. She wanted to use the heavy workload to banish the chaotic thoughts swirling in her mind.

But no matter how hard she tried, Preston Vance’s words kept ringing in her ears: they should all fight for their own happiness.

She tightened her grip on the bag in her hands, the struggle in her eyes becoming increasingly apparent.

Biting her lip, she made a decision. She would test Chloe Reed’s attitude one more time. If Chloe was really going to divorce Mr. Grant, then she...

"Ann, come out quickly! We’re short-handed out front!"

Her coworker’s shout shattered her train of thought. Not daring to let her imagination run wild any longer, she quickly replied and hurried back out.
