Chapter 1304: Chapter 1304: A Last-Ditch Strike

Liu Xuanji certainly wouldn’t die in such a humiliating way as being trampled by spirit beasts. He seemed to advance in a chaotic manner, yet cleverly avoided the encirclement and trampling of several spirit beasts casting spells. Then, he grabbed a branch blasted apart by the battle in the valley, which flew into his palm. Liu Xuanji wielded the charred, rain-soaked stick like a child, occasionally swinging it wildly or tapping the limbs of spirit beasts about to tread upon him.

In Pei Yan’s perception, this seemingly random behavior transformed into a different picture. Each time Liu Xuanji raised the stick, the source energy within the mountain stream converged toward him, and when he swung it down, this energy turned into sword qi that attacked each spirit beast.

One, two, three strikes — Pei Yan silently counted the times each spirit beast’s same spot suffered sword qi strikes. He realized no spirit beast could withstand three strikes of spiritual qi in the same location. Watching the enormous wounds explode as if slashed by a blade, Pei Yan scrutinized the detailed scene of Liu Xuanji’s moves. Data analysis showed that each successive attack by Liu Xuanji increased damage exponentially, and when the third sword qi struck, it dealt hundreds of times the damage of the first sword qi, even breaking the sturdy defenses of Hulü and Ba Xia — their tough shells cracked, exposing flesh, and with a sorrowful shout, they fell heavily.

Thus, the two brothers walked leisurely through the enemy formation. Unbeknownst to them, the elders of the Beast Taming Institute and their spirit beasts lay scattered on the ground.

Impressive! It’s indeed the pinnacle of combat power in a realm. Such casual displays could take half a year to comprehend. Mo Baiqi’s techniques aren’t my style, but if I could understand Liu Xuanji’s moves, it would greatly benefit me.

"Ignorant youngsters! Usually, recognizing who my brother and I are would deter you from attacking. For this, I should claim your lives!" Crossing the enemy formation, Mo Baiqi turned, flicked his sleeves, and sneered disdainfully at the shabby state of the Beast Taming Institute’s people.

The backlash from continuously using secret techniques and the trauma to the lifebound spirit beasts inflicted by Mo Baiqi left these elders severely injured, barely able to stay on the backs of the spirit beasts. As people slipped one after another like dumplings, they fell from heights — their spirit beasts were several stories tall. Pei Yan feared they might get hurt, so he quickly maneuvered into the crowd, controlling the source energy to catch and lay them steadily on the ground.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!" Leng Shuyi spat out several mouthfuls of blood and stared venomously at the approaching Pei Yan, weakly asking, "How do you know our secrets?"

Pei Yan didn’t answer, simply smiling at him, then pulled out the confinement ring intending to put it on him. At this moment, Leng Shuyi suddenly realized something and struggled, saying, "You are just guessing! You don’t truly know who we are! Tonight is merely your probe!"

The opponent still didn’t speak, but Leng Shuyi realized he had guessed correctly! Why would the opponent complete the space lock yet leave us a path to life? Why attack us batch by batch, according to strength from low to high? All his previous doubts were suddenly clear! Pei Yan really had no irrefutable evidence against them and was forcing them to act! The final outcome would be death, and if not for being deceived in battle, preferring to be surrounded and killed, he wouldn’t have used secret techniques, leaving no handle for the opponent. The sect might then challenge the violence Pei Yan perpetrated through this incident. Now everything is exposed, the sect will be implicated by his actions.

But, honestly, facing a chance to live while in a desperate situation, how many can calmly sacrifice themselves heroically? It’s not that he couldn’t think of it or was stupid, but because Pei Yan was too ruthless! Better to kill mistakenly than to let go!

Thinking this, Leng Shuyi’s eyes filled with hatred and despair. He glanced at his fellow brothers, sensing the same feelings from their eyes, and then they closed their eyes.

"Want to die? It’s not that easy!" Pei Yan had seen through their thoughts long ago, stepped forward, and restrained their source energy to prevent any extra actions!

"Pfft, pfft, pfft!" Leng Shuyi, held by the chin to prevent poison consumption, looked at Pei Yan trying to curse but couldn’t utter a complete sentence, finally spitting in Pei Yan’s face out of frustration.

As the victor obtaining the desired information, Pei Yan displayed a bit of gentlemanly tolerance for the spitting provocation, not angered by Leng Shuyi’s behavior. He cheerfully proceeded to bind him entirely in restrictions, when suddenly a voice came from the sky.

"Brother! Don’t blame your junior for being ruthless! See you in the next life!"

"Pei Yan! Grab those prisoners and flee quickly!"

The first caller was Elder Han of the Beast Taming Institute. At this moment, he alone was left responsible for rear defense. Battered like a mad tiger, he staggered urgently toward them.

The second caller was Jin He Xuan, who had come down to inspect conditions seeing the situation calm. Startled by Elder Han’s actions, he cried out loudly.

Pei Yan didn’t think Elder Han could harm him now, but worried about the condition of these important witnesses. Listening to the warning, he immediately grabbed one elder, used source energy to drag another, swiftly darting outwards from the valley.

Pei Yan heard the rush of air behind him and realized Liu and Mo took the same action as him. This was truly backing oneself into a corner; to prevent the Beast Taming Institute from escaping, layers of space locks were placed over the entire valley, preventing spatial jumps. Forced to rely on body techniques and drag these three troublesome captives yearning for death, his progress slowed immensely.

After dragging the three out, Pei Yan heard a heartrending wail from behind, followed by a tremendous roar echoing in the valley. The earth shook violently, and Pei Yan could feel an energy wave sweeping from behind.

At the same time, four shadows rushed past Pei Yan’s front, blocking that relentless energy wave, which exploded violently, causing the terrain to quiver, cliffs swaying wildly, trees and rocks tumbling down. Pei Yan sheltered the three captives, scrambling left and right, barely avoiding harm.

Finally, fleeing out of the valley and beyond the explosion’s range, Pei Yan looked at the three captives he held. Leng Shuyi, protected most tightly, wasn’t affected, but one was squeezed unconscious, the other hit on the head by falling debris, face bloody and life uncertain.
