Chapter 1249: Immortal Palace Guard Office
Chapter 1249: Chapter 1249: Immortal Palace Guard Office
"Look! Here it comes!" After listening to the report from the Fenrir Elder, Pei Yan smiled at the two and replied, "These Divine Martial Guards are working for us tonight. We can’t cool their hearts. Let’s meet the Divine Martial Guards first. As for those four elders, let them wait outside."
"Yes!" Receiving the instructions, the Fenrir Elder hurriedly withdrew. Shortly after, under his guidance, a Divine Martial Guard soldier with a helmet askew and loose armor strode into the courtyard. Seeing Pei Yan, he immediately knelt on one knee and reported, "Right Divine Martial Guard Deputy Qian Younuo, under the order of Grand General Shi, greets Mr. Pei."
Pei Yan used his Divine Sense to scrutinize this person. The distance from outside the courtyard to inside was not too short, yet enough for him to tidy up his appearance. Presenting himself in such a state indicated his dissatisfaction with what he had encountered outside the gate, indirectly voicing his grievance to Pei Yan. Pei Yan did not point it out but nodded at him and asked, "Stand up! What does your Grand General order you to come to me for?"
"Thank you, sir, in response!" Qian Younuo thanked, stood up from the ground, and continued to report, "Now the Left and Right Divine Martial Guards are pressing into the palace, the troops are somewhat insufficient, Lord Shi ordered me to ask Mr. Pei whether we should wait for reinforcements before continuing to search, or if the Divine Martial Guards should send people back to camp to continue deploying troops."
"Hahahahaha!" Pei Yan laughed heartily, slapping the chair’s armrest and taunting, "I just asked your Grand General, are three thousand troops enough? He said sealing off the Immortal Palace is more than enough. How come it’s not even an hour and already reporting manpower shortage?"
"Uh...!" Facing Pei Yan’s mockery, Qian Younuo was a bit embarrassed but still replied honestly, "To answer Mr. Pei, it is indeed more than enough to just seal off the major streets of the Immortal Palace with these troops. But I didn’t expect these Immortal Palace Patrols to dare defy the orders of the Spirit Lord. Occasional conflicts happen on the streets, not to mention the message has been relayed back to the Immortal Palace Guard. Now that there is movement there, if the Forbidden Guard Office mobilizes, our manpower is certainly insufficient to deal with them."
"Immortal Palace Guard! Ah!" Pei Yan knew this place. In terms of the Immortal Palace’s structure, besides the Heavenly Guardian Pavilion recording the Daoist Realm’s past events within the Secret Realm Space, and various unknown small secret realms, the main outward structures are mostly the Six Immortal Palace Mansions and Taichu Palace where Lin Ruxue resides. These respective Immortal Mansion Villas mostly accommodate elders responsible for guarding the Immortal Palace along with their direct disciples. However, there are many affairs in the Immortal Palace that require someone to manage and these personnel do not have the rank to reside in the inner villas, thus the Forbidden Guard Office was established.
The Forbidden Guard Office is home to mid and low-tier disciples responsible for guarding, cleaning, and handling various day-to-day operations of the Immortal Palace. Each mansion sends approximately two thousand disciples to stay on duty, and these disciples do not serve permanently; every hundred years, after receiving sect rewards, they return to their clans for further cultivation, to be replaced by the next wave of sect disciples.
One mansion sends over two thousand; now with six mansions remaining five, there are still over ten thousand people. If they indeed conflict, these three thousand Divine Martial Guards will certainly be unable to stop them.
"So? They’re not listening to orders anymore?" Pei Yan lightly rubbed his forehead, feeling somewhat troubled.
"Not really! A Mo Sect disciple just took an Elder Order from his sect and went to the Forbidden Guard Office. After receiving the order, the Mo Sect disciples obeyed and stayed within the Guard Office, not moving. This action slightly eased the tension inside and outside the Forbidden Guard Office, but other sect disciples are still very dissatisfied and refuse to compliantly return for rest and wait for arrangements. Some demand they will only obey orders received via their Sect Elder Token. When subordinate arrived, the Divine Martial Guards and they were still confronting each other at the Forbidden Guard Office gate; the situation is quite tense, unknown whether an incident might occur now." Qian Younuo dared not exaggerate this aspect, reporting sincerely.
"Uh...!" Pei Yan was about to speak but suddenly felt a mild headache, as two voices simultaneously transmitted messages to him from afar. With his brow furrowed, he listened to both messages separately, and his tightly knitted brow relaxed, unable to hold back a chuckle. Then he looked at Qian Younuo, who gazed at him with bewildered eyes, and instructed, "Go back and tell your Grand General there’s no need to deploy more troops. Since this situation arose from us, we can’t expect you to shoulder all the burden. Tell him my two teams have already opened the Space Tunnel and are now gathering outside Luocheng. Have your Grand General quickly send someone to guide them here!"
"Yes!"
"And it won’t be long before the Spirit Lord’s orders reach your Grand General. Tell him to communicate with those disciples at the Immortal Palace Guard, letting them know this is an order from the Spirit Lord! Command them to swiftly return to their station to await subsequent instructions. Listen, from now on, any disciple attempting to enter the Immortal Palace Guard with their Sect Elder Token shall be stopped and barred entry. Anyone forcibly trespassing shall be slain! Your Spirit Lord wants to see whether her order is more effective or these sect’s own orders."
Upon hearing this, Qian Younuo’s eyes brightened. It seems the attitude of only knowing sects and ignoring the Spirit Lord at the Immortal Palace has sparked dissatisfaction from the Spirit Lord. Should his side take advantage of the situation and add insult to injury? Taking this opportunity to tidy up those Immortal Palace disciples who are usually high and mighty would indeed be delightful.
But this thought was completely dispelled when he saw Pei Yan’s half-smiling expression looking at him. He had just reported this matter to Pei Yan, and the Spirit Lord’s response was delivered through Pei Yan’s mouth. This indicated that everything happening tonight was well within the Spirit Lord’s sights. Doing things honestly is the way to avoid getting implicated. As for the lives of Immortal Palace disciples, it depends on whether they are sensible enough to find their own blessings.
Afterward, having received Pei Yan’s orders again, Qian Younuo turned to leave, only to be stopped by Pei Yan once more. He heard Pei Yan ask, "When you came here, did you encounter the elders of the Four Mansions of the Immortal Palace? Did they trouble you?"
"Uh...! It’s not quite troubling. It’s just that the elders have some criticisms about what our Divine Martial Guards did tonight. During their speech, there was a bit of conflict. Given my lowly rank and weak strength, I dare not contend with these elders, so I can only let them reprimand me." Regarding the incident that occurred earlier outside the gate, Qian Younuo naturally harbored resentment; otherwise, he would not have appeared before Pei Yan in such a disheveled manner. Seeing Pei Yan ask, he simply conveyed his dissatisfaction in a subtle way.
"Alright, this isn’t going to take long while you work. I’m Pei Yan; I haven’t degraded to the extent of letting people working for me be ordered around casually." Saying this, Pei Yan glanced at the guards standing under the corridor and ordered, "Go! Invite the four elders waiting outside to come in."
"Understood!" The Fenrir Elder obeyed the command and exited the courtyard once again. Upon his return, four disgruntled elders followed behind him. After entering the courtyard, they exchanged a glance with Qian Younuo. The latter consciously lowered his head, saluted them, and voluntarily stepped aside.
