Chapter 1221: Changes Amid Departure
Chapter 1221: Chapter 1221: Changes Amid Departure
The matter of the Divine Artifact resolved, Feng Tianhe’s anomaly became the most worrisome issue in Pei Yan’s heart. With their duties for their Spirit Lords and Supreme Beings completed, the Mechanical Masters and Alchemists found no reason to linger here. They, having briefed Pei Yan on all matters related to the Divine Artifacts and modifications, left the Divine Artifact Space under Pei Yan’s respect. Feng Tianhe was the last to leave, taking the sun dial Divine Artifact into his sleeve. He glanced at Pei Yan as if wanting to say something, but ultimately kept silent, sighing deeply before returning to report to the sect with the artifact and news of their success.
"Now tell me! What exactly happened here?" Pei Yan asked, eyebrows furrowing as he turned to Gu Shenghui, who had been waiting outside.
"Let’s talk while we walk! First, let’s escort Engineer Li back to the Foundation Plane; it’s too dangerous here, and the time flow disparity isn’t fair to those who are non-cultivators. The space passage is set up, so let’s get them out."
Pei Yan didn’t refuse Gu Shenghui’s suggestion, agreeing before joining him in escorting the equipment department staff who had just finished their work towards the space passage opened outside the city.
"What exactly happened?"
"Elder Cen is gone. Given the current complex situation, someone more knowledgeable about epics of combat is needed to take charge. Therefore, Old Yu replaced the newly appointed Old Li and became the head of headquarters."
"Is that it?" The news of Elder Cen’s passing was not unexpected for Pei Yan, but Yu Zhongmin’s ascension caught him by surprise. Still, considering the need for someone both an epic wielder and skilled manager to replace Elder Cen, with Gu Shenghui often on the frontlines being unsuitable, Yu Zhongmin’s smooth demeanor made him the obvious choice—such a decision was sensible.
Understanding this, Pei Yan sneered dismissively: "Well, he got what he wished for. All right! Your internal matters don’t concern me! Our internal personnel changes aren’t enough to make an elder from the Mo Sect treat it like a major event, Yu Zhongmin doesn’t have that capability!"
Sitting on the flying boat, Gu Shenghui glanced at Engineer Li, who was eavesdropping, and when Engineer Li noticed him looking, he awkwardly smiled but showed no intent of sitting back. Seeing him like this, Gu Shenghui didn’t reprimand him, instead pulling two boxes of cigars from his pocket and handing them to Pei Yan, saying: "I heard from Mei Simiao that you ran out of cigars before heading to the Dragon Realm, take these!"
"You~!" Pei Yan pointed at Gu Shenghui, the words on his lips swallowed back, as he took the cigars and stuffed them into his arms, puffing sullenly. He knew Gu Shenghui didn’t want to speak; no matter how much he asked, it would be useless. Anyway, once he sent Engineer Li back, he could return to Yirong Pavilion and ask others to learn what had happened.
"The two groups you brought back have been very effective for the hall. We received news and immediately sent people to negotiate with the two clans in the Dragon Realm. The clans promised that the first wave of cooperating contract signers has reached the Foundation Plane and signed contracts with old agents from the hall. Our strength has greatly increased! The hall is very satisfied with your performance in the Dragon Realm and has decided to reward you."
"Hmm!" Pei Yan responded absentmindedly.
"You should not have a grudge against Old Yu. He may lack strength and battle experience, but he’s smooth in handling internal and external affairs. This time, he personally went to negotiate in the Dragon Realm, leveraged Lin Junzhao’s support, and engaged the current Dragon King. The Dragon King has already expressed a willingness to dispatch higher combat strength from the Beast Race to assist us in battle because of our leadership. Reportedly, the Dao, Magic, and Hell Planes are also inclined in this regard, all requesting the Dragon Realm for assistance." Gu Shenghui continued to babble about how Pei Yan’s actions brought changes across various realms.
"I don’t have a problem with him!" Pei Yan rolled his eyes and replied boringly.
"Delacuri has sent us a request for negotiation; we can decide the time and place. His envoy is currently at the hall and will report back once they receive the definite news."
"Oh!" After listening for so long, finally, a piece of information aroused Pei Yan’s interest. He raised an eyebrow, happy: "The old guy finally capitulated, it’s time to resolve this major threat, how is Du Guangyuan’s preparation going?"
Gu Shenghui shook his head regretfully: "Not very smoothly. Initially, he was very confident in his refined blood poison, but after hearing about Delacuri’s performance in the Dragon Realm battle, he felt Delacuri’s strength surpassed his expectations. Thus, to better meet your requirements, he needs to improve the blood poison, and it will take some time."
"Then let’s wait! Cool him down first and act when the opportunity matures." Pei Yan, hearing this, felt helpless. But considering the troublesome nature of the Blood Race, to solve it once and for all, he must ensure when he strikes, it is a decisive, fatal blow, or else endless troubles will arise.
"Oh, by the way! I forgot to tell you, you’re now the head of the training brigade in the hall as a reward for your outstanding performance in the Dragon Realm."
"Enough! Gu Chu! Uncle Gu! Gu Ancestor! Stop circling around with me! If you don’t want to talk, then don’t. I’ll go back and ask them myself!" Pei Yan was finally driven to frustration by Gu Shenghui’s evasive, circular reasoning as the flying boat reached the space passage. No longer needed for the escort work, he leapt off the boat to walk back.
"Go find Mei Simiao! He’ll tell you everything you want to know. Remember to handle it calmly! The hall respects your decision but also consider our relationship with the Immortal Palace." Gu Shenghui loudly warned, watching Pei Yan’s retreating figure.
"Old Gu, why don’t you just tell the kid directly? Pei Yan has grown up now and isn’t unreasonable. Why bother? He’ll learn everything once he returns anyway," Engineer Li asked, puzzled by Gu Shenghui’s strange actions throughout.
"Ah! Old Li, I wasn’t stalling Pei Yan for him, but for Elder Feng, whom you’ve worked alongside for so long." Gu Shenghui glanced at Engineer Li, sighing helplessly.
"For Elder Feng."
"Yes! With Pei Yan’s temper, if he gets confirmation from me, he’ll explode. The Immortal Palace worked so long for him, would you immediately turn around to make trouble for them? Logically, shouldn’t you give Mr. Feng time to relay the message?"
"Uh...!" Engineer Li was momentarily speechless upon hearing this, staring blankly in the direction Pei Yan disappeared until Gu Shenghui half-dragged, half-convinced him into the space passage.
"Is this why Gu Chu was just stalling for time?" Filled with questions, Pei Yan sped back to the Immortal Palace. Breaking through three barriers to reach the new locale of the investigation group, he looked at Wang Wenze, sitting in a wheelchair with his left leg and right arm wrapped in bandages. His facial muscles twitched as he growled in inquiry.
"Pei Yan, calm down; it’s not as simple as it looks!"
