Chapter 2288: Chapter 1144: I’m Hungry for Your Body
Shirin’s little face flushed, and for a moment she didn’t quite know what to do.
Seriously speaking, she wasn’t that young anymore, already past thirty; back home in Senhai World, at her age she’d already be a grandma, so she really shouldn’t be so green that one compliment makes her blush and her heart race.
And she wasn’t some silly-sweet airhead type either; on the contrary, she was more the intellectual High Level Mature Lady kind. Self-taught, yes, but her learning was good enough to earn her multiple Doctor degrees from the Ape neighbors next door.
So in that mutated brain of hers, she should’ve instantly recognized that anyone who likes to praise people’s looks is either a crook or a thief; smooth talkers are the least trustworthy kind.
But there was nothing she could do about it. She understood all the logic, yet she was just...happy. Uncontrollably happy. The joy in her heart was about to erupt like a volcano and spray out with full force, completely impossible to stop.
After all, a casual "you’re very pretty" might be a dispensable bit of flattery to other people, but to a girl who grew up as a Clown, it’s something she wouldn’t even dare dream of.
Especially since this wasn’t just social politeness, but genuine admiration from the heart.
Not good, she totally couldn’t handle it; that love-brain of hers was about to flare up.
Shirin was finding it hard to rein in her heart.
As a member of the Taizi Tribe, she was naturally on the more love-brain side; it ran in the Clan. After all, a love-brain makes it easier to find a mate, which in turn makes reproduction more convenient.
All that former coldness and self-reliance of Shirin’s had been forced out of her by circumstances; it wasn’t that she wanted to stay single. It was simply that even when she proactively offered herself for free, people still rejected her for being ugly. When you’ve been turned down enough times, even the strongest love-brain gradually cools into a lump of ice.
Abandon love, sever romance, lock the heart and seal away affection. What romance? Better to study hard for the Ascension of the Clan.
The bug girl...well, fine, she couldn’t really be called a girl anymore; this Insect woman Mature Lady had thought she’d stay single and rational like this for the rest of her life, but now her heart had almost been thawed in an instant by a single sentence.
Heh, she really was an incredibly easy-to-please woman.
Fortunately, Shirin had just sacrificed the entire world, so her love-brain ultimately failed to fully ignite. The Insect woman forced her rationality to suppress that genetic instinct that craved a partner, and let herself regain her cool.
"Thank you for the compliment, Lady Dorothy."
She replied to the Miss Witch in front of her with twelve-fold gratitude, but once the thanks were said, her gaze still slid toward the fleet route map floating beside her in midair.
As mentioned, even though Shirin was an Insect People, she was different from those stupid insect compatriots. She was a rare High Level intellectual among the Insect People, and having long been acquainted with technology, she could more or less guess her current situation.
She seemed to be inside a Warship right now.
Only, a Warship of this kind would count as pure sci-fi back in Senhai World. The Apes of Senhai simply didn’t have the technological level yet to build fleets capable of roaming space; otherwise they wouldn’t have been stuck fighting the Insect People for so many years. They’d have long been shouting "Our goal is the sea of stars!" and started exploring outer space.
The highest Combat technology the Apes possessed was just various Mechanical Power Armor, Mechanical Prosthetics, and Genetic Enhancement modifications and the like.
Of course, in Shirin’s eyes, the most precious thing she had learned from the Apes was never the specific technological level itself, but the way of thinking called science.
It was an awakening of the cognitive level, an Evolution of the mind. Science had allowed her to break away from the ignorance of the Insect Clan and embrace civilization.
Anyway, the technology she’d learned from the Apes clearly wasn’t enough to even get her on stage in front of these Witches, but the scientific mindset meant that even when faced with Warships—these high-tech products that had only ever existed in sci-fi novels and movies for her—she wouldn’t worship them like Deities just because she couldn’t understand them.
Hmm, they were nothing more than higher-level technological products. I don’t understand them now, but one day in the future I’ll definitely master the techniques to build them.
That was what Shirin thought to herself.
She didn’t see this as Pride, just confidence in her own brain. Sooner or later, she’d learn the knowledge of Witches—this higher civilization—the same way she had mastered Ape technology.
So, when it came to all the things in the Warship that currently lay beyond her understanding, she was merely curious and maintained a degree of awe, but it didn’t rise to the level of worship.
Then she looked at those compatriots who had been bought in the same cage as her earlier. That bunch of stupid Insect People had long since knelt devoutly in the cage and started worshipping; they seemed to have taken the Witches as the Deities who had come to save them.
Heh, Deities.
Seeing the ignorance of these compatriots made Shirin want to laugh. How could there possibly be Deities in this world? If Deities really existed, why hadn’t any shown up to save Senhai World when it was destroyed by that terrifying Demon?
In the eyes of the Insect woman Mature Lady, so-called Deities were nothing more than spiritual comfort for cowards. Their fragile hearts couldn’t bear failure and anxiety, so they had to fabricate an Omniscient and Omnipotent god to pin their hopes on and gain some fake sense of security.
There should be no gods in this world; just thinking about something Omniscient and Omnipotent is enough to know it can’t exist.
The Deities people talk about are actually just beings so powerful they exceed their understanding—nothing more. For example, if Shirin could ever return to Senhai World, with her research results that could freely alter genes, she’d probably be worshipped as a Deity by those foolish kin of hers as well.
