Chapter 2275: Chapter 1138: Border Great Wall (Part 2)
Therefore, the Twilight Realm is actually considered the novice trial ground for Armed Witches. It’s the best place for them to hone their skills before heading to the real battlefield.
Generally speaking, once a Great Witch reaches a certain level, they can attempt to enter the Twilight Realm for training. If someday you successfully traverse the Twilight Realm and reach the end, standing at the World Barrier frontier looking into the endless dark chaos void, it means you have officially graduated and become a qualified Armed Witch.
Well, if everything develops normally and Dorothy is motivated to not become a civil engineering witch, but to genuinely aim to become an Armed Witch, she would complete the twenty-year course at the Witch Academy, graduate smoothly, and then find some classmates to form a team to challenge the Twilight Realm together.
She will gradually bond and develop rapport with her teammates amidst the trials of the Twilight Realm, growing together, shedding their student inexperience through repeated battles, and eventually, through blood and fire, mature into a true Armed Witch, finally heading to the frontline and writing a legendary saga on the battlefield of another world. (Damn, actually this is what I originally wanted to write, but as I was writing, I deviated, alas.)
It’s a pity that Dorothy is not the kind of typical witch who follows the routine, so the youthful development outlined earlier has nothing to do with her. As for the novice village of the Twilight Realm, she now directly crushes through it with a large fleet.
Skip the plot, skip.
"Tsk, I feel like I’ve missed something."
This is what Dorothy was thinking.
Moreover, the powerful Spirit World Transition engine of the warship has already finished this transition, so fast that she barely felt anything.
The transition was naturally smooth, with such a massive fleet moving through, Spiritual Realm Creatures didn’t even try to attack, but instead fled at the sight.
Anyway, in the blink of an eye, the beautiful World Flower had shrunk to a pixel-sized dot, and darkness lay ahead of the fleet, along with the Border Great Wall that the homebody witch had longed for.
Though it’s called a Great Wall, it’s not an actual wall because constructing one so massive as to encompass the whole Witch World inside would be less feasible than maintaining the World Barrier.
Therefore, this so-called Border Great Wall is actually a "wall of people."
It’s formed by numerous temporary bases of Witch Battle Groups, creating a so-called "defensive line."
But in reality, this naturally doesn’t serve as any "defensive line," as stated before, there’s simply no one who would irrationally attack the Witch World where The Third King resides; thus, it requires no protection, after all, anyone who comes dies.
Hence, the Border Great Wall never existed for defending against external enemies; on the contrary, it’s for faster and better offense.
Previously, when Dorothy got the Whale Hunting Contract for the Mechanical Wilderness, she had already gained some understanding of the Western Universe’s Law.
The law here follows the Dark Sea Law.
The entire Western Universe is a vast dark sea, with worlds existing as ships navigating the darkness, always on the move, unlike the stationary celestial bodies in a typical starry world.
But the surrounding darkness severely limits the ships’ visibility, forcing them to navigate blindly, encountering unforeseen events, possibly adventures, possibly dangers.
Among those dangers, the Four Great Catastrophes are the most terrifying and despair-inducing.
The Witch World is the storm on this sea, and the witches are the fearsome pirates riding the storm.
The Witch Battle Groups stationed at the world’s edges aim to rush forward and claim everything upon discovering prey.
After all, everything nowadays is competitive, even world conquest; truly, it’s a case of too many wolves and too little meat, especially with ’private hunting’ prohibited, necessitating a Whale Hunting Contract for legal hunting.
However, Whale Hunting Contracts are costly and scarce; waiting foolishly for distribution from the Whaling Institution would starve the battle groups. Thus, most groups rush to the world’s edge to find prey using their own methods.
According to the Whaling Institution, the discoverer of a new world can enjoy priority hunting rights if the difficulty of conquest level is similar.
Over time, this supposedly barren and dark world boundary has become crowded with numerous battle groups, with Armed Witches akin to gold diggers in a gold rush, continually advancing to the front, forming a grand ’wall of people’ like a great wall.
Of course, rather than gold diggers, they’re more akin to fishermen.
Indeed, searching for traces of new worlds within the boundless chaos and darkness outside the boundary is like fishing, dependent on luck, with empty military missions as the norm.
"Missy, want to go down for a look?"
Dorothy technically possesses the Nine-Star Golden Contract for the Mechanical Wilderness, so she doesn’t need to stop at the Border Great Wall, and can directly exit to start "whale hunting."
But noticing her lady’s and a few sisters’ curious gazes towards the Border Great Wall, Sophia proposed it.
Well, the Pure White Witch had been to the Border Great Wall many times already; she had traveled everywhere with her teacher since young. But it’s the first time for Missy and the others, and the atmosphere unlike the Inner World feels quite novel to them.
"Oh, can we really go down for a look?"
The homebody witch’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, but recalling the tight schedule and heavy tasks, she felt she shouldn’t let personal desires affect the fleet’s efficiency.
"Well, actually, we need to handle the exit procedures anyway, you can accompany if you want."
Sophia smiled, providing her Lord a convenient excuse.
"Alright, great, ahem, it’s that the place is mixed with fish and dragons, and a bit chaotic. It’s too dangerous for Sophia to go alone, so we’ll act as her guards."
As Dorothy was about to cheer, she realized she’s now the fleet’s General and must maintain dignity, not act childish, so she immediately coughed a few times and stated the reason sternly.
Audrey and Alice nodded immediately, faces full of agreement.
Even the always composed Madeline and Mia were quite tempted.
Pure White Witch: "..."
Regarding Missy’s pretense, Sophia looked at her disdainfully.
Thus, after the fleet slowed and stabilized, the sisters eagerly followed the Pure White Witch to broaden their horizons.
But soon, the members of their strolling squad increased again.
"Lady Dorothy, where are you heading?"
In the warship’s corridor, Wendy and Mordred, the newcomers, curiously watched them and asked.
Well, the Wendigo girl eventually joined Stars Industry smoothly, which Dorothy initially didn’t want to accept. After all, if anything happened to Her Royal Highness, she couldn’t afford the compensation.
But when Wendy mentioned she acted under orders from the Devil King, the homebody witch had to comply.
Thinking the Mechanical Wilderness is a trap set by the Devil King and now sending his young daughter might mean overseeing, accepting Wendy indeed increased a sense of security, as Athena wouldn’t truly gamble her daughter’s safety; if things turned dire, everyone could flee behind Her Royal Highness for guaranteed safety.
As for Mordred.....
Alas, strictly speaking, she seems to be one’s own offspring; what else could be done, can’t truly abandon it.
Dorothy felt quite helpless.
Though this offspring was far stronger than her so-called father, determining who’s really taking care of whom was uncertain.
Upon hearing Dorothy and others going for procedures (street shady), the Demon Princess and Weapon Girl exchanged a glance, silently following along.
"It’s too dangerous here, please let us accompany as guards."
The two said so.
Thus, the newbie Armed Witches finally reached the frontline.
....Witches roaming around....
