Otaku F*cks Them All

Chapter 202: Konan [2]

Konan’s head remained on his shoulder while she kept talking, voice low and tired. The words came slower now, less structured, as if saying them out loud had drained some of the pressure. Kael listened. His hand found hers on the table and rested over it, thumb moving once across her knuckles in a quiet, steady motion. She did not pull away.

He already knew the history she had never told this world’s Naruto. The rain, the hunger, the graves, the way the three of them had clung to one another when nothing else in the world held. In another timeline that bond had twisted into something that leveled villages. Pain had stood on the ruins of Konoha and demanded an answer no one could give. Kael had no intention of letting that future take root here. He was not the original Naruto. He could not talk his way through a fight like that and win. One wrong step with these three and he might create the very disaster he wanted to avoid. That knowledge sat cold and clear beneath the warmth of her body against his side.

When her words finally thinned into silence, he spoke.

"What if you don’t choose either of them?"

Konan lifted her head just enough to look at him. Her face stayed close; her breath touched the side of his neck, warm and uneven.

"What do you mean?"

"What if you choose someone else entirely."

Her brows drew together. "And who would that be?"

Kael turned toward her. The distance between them shrank to almost nothing. He kissed her.

It was slow at first, deliberate, giving her every chance to pull back. Konan went still. For a heartbeat she simply received it, eyes open, mind clearly scrambling to catch up. Then something in her gave. Her lips parted under his. Kael guided one of her hands up to his cheek, then the other, letting her feel the shape of his face while he kissed her more deeply. His other hand stayed at her waist, light but present. When he tilted his head and breathed against the side of her neck before returning to her mouth, a small, startled sound escaped her.

The second kiss lasted longer. Konan’s tongue met his—tentative, then surer, as if some long-denied curiosity had finally been allowed to move. She had never kissed anyone before. The realization settled in Kael’s mind while he tasted her, while her fingers curled slightly against his jaw. Years of restraint and loyalty and careful distance had left her starved for uncomplicated contact, and the safe third option he had offered was slipping past her defenses faster than either of them had expected.

They kissed for a full minute, maybe more. The paper on the table and the cooling tea ceased to exist. Konan’s breathing grew uneven. A thin thread of saliva connected their mouths when she finally drew back, eyes wide and dazed. The sight of his face—Naruto’s face—seemed to slam the reality back into her all at once.

She shoved away hard, nearly tipping the table.

"You should leave."

Her voice was sharp with shock and embarrassment. Color burned high across her cheeks. Kael looked at her for a long second, then nodded once.

"All right."

He stood, collected nothing, and walked to the door. He did not argue or push. The soft click of the latch behind him sounded final.

Konan locked it with trembling fingers, then slid down the wood until she sat on the floor. Her fingertips rose to her lips and stayed there. The phantom pressure of the kiss lingered. Her heart hammered so loudly she could hear it in her ears.

So that was what a kiss felt like.

Night settled over the village. Konan tried to sleep and failed. Every time she closed her eyes she felt the heat of his mouth again, the way her own had opened without permission, the confusing rush that had nothing to do with Yahiko or Nagato and everything to do with the boy she had called a little brother only hours earlier. She pressed her face into the pillow and demanded an answer from herself that would not come. Why hadn’t she pulled away sooner? Why had she kissed him back?

The knock at her door was soft but unmistakable.

She rose, heart already racing, and opened it a narrow crack. Kael stood in the dim light of the street, expression unreadable.

"Naruto, why are you—"

He stepped forward and kissed her again.

Konan froze. The same shock from the afternoon slammed through her. For a second she remained rigid, hands half-raised between them. Then the starved part of her—the part that had spent years watching other people touch and choose and burn—answered for her. Her fingers curled into the front of his shirt. She kissed him back.

This time there was less hesitation. Kael’s hand slid to the back of her neck, steadying her, tilting her head so the angle deepened. Konan made a quiet, helpless sound into his mouth. The doorframe pressed against her spine as he stepped fully inside and nudged the door shut with his foot. The click of the latch felt louder than it should have.

He kissed her like he had all the time in the world and none of it at once—slow pulls of his lips, the light scrape of teeth, the heat of his tongue sliding against hers. Konan’s knees weakened. She gripped his shoulders for balance. Every careful principle she had lived by—loyalty, restraint, the refusal to want anything for herself—frayed under the simple, devastating fact that someone was kissing her as if she were the only choice that mattered.

When they finally broke apart for air, her lips felt swollen and sensitive. Kael rested his forehead against hers. Their breathing mixed in the small space between them.

"I shouldn’t be doing this," she whispered.

"I know."

"You’re supposed to be—"

"I know that too."

He kissed her again, softer, and she let him. Outside, the village remained quiet and unaware. Inside the neat little house that had never held another person, Konan stopped trying to decide between the two men who loved her and started losing herself in the one who had simply taken the decision out of her hands.
