Chapter 236: 236: Complete The Task

Nyx scoffed as he panicked. "Shameless. That’s different, so..." He struggled to hide the flush on his face as he looked away, moving his body lower into the water.

Ayra smiled. "It’s not really so different. Let’s just share the stream. At least that would be faster for both of us."

Zay spoke up. "Mama, don’t agree. He’s a bad cat," he insisted.

Nyx cleared his throat as he stared at the cub. He slowly turned away from Ayra and said, "Take your shameless words somewhere else... I’m too busy for that now."

Ayra smiled. "Then I’ll step in and take my bath too. I’m not shy about it, so why should you be? It’s not like I want to see anything. We’ll just share."

She made her way into the stream. The fox slowly stepped into the water as her whole body was consumed by the gentle current.

Zay remained at the edge of the water. "Mama... don’t go in..."

Ayra smiled at him. "Don’t worry, I’ll be fine," she said as she moved further into the water.

Nyx had his back turned toward her, struggling to hide himself beneath the water. But he didn’t think that would work for long, so he decided to escape.

"Shameless..." he simply muttered as he turned and began leaving the water.

Ayra stared at him. "Where are you going? I thought we’d be sharing?"

"You can have it."

He had already reached the edge of the water and grabbed his piece of clothing from where it was sitting.

Ayra blinked. She needed him around for help if she wanted to return to normal and have a proper bath! And this stubborn cat didn’t seem to be helping matters at all.

She had to think of something fast. Something that would get him back into the water.

And so, she instantly began plotting.

Her plan was simple: pretend as if she had hurt herself in the water. That way, Nyx would be forced to come running back to save her. Ayra had already realized that he wasn’t as bad or cold as he pretended to be.

But just as Ayra was about to execute her plan, something else happened.

Nyx had stepped out of the water and was now properly covering himself with the loincloth around his waist.

Just then, Zay, who had been keeping an eye on his mother, caught sight of something.

He panicked.

"Mama! Watch out!"

Immediately, Nyx turned toward Ayra, only to see the body of a green snake moving through the water.

It didn’t look like an ordinary snake at all. Rather, it looked huge and dangerous.

Without a second thought, Nyx abandoned everything he was doing and dived straight back into the water, his loincloth falling from his waist.

He was completely naked in the water as he swam straight toward Ayra, who was still trying to understand what was happening around her.

Before she had time to process it all, Nyx reached the scene and swung his foot toward the snake near Ayra.

His kick was strong enough to slam against the snake’s body and push it away. The snake immediately turned around.

Surprisingly, it didn’t even fight back. It simply turned and dived straight into the water.

Before long, it was out of sight.

They couldn’t see it anymore, even though Nyx immediately dived into the water to search for the strange snake.

But it was gone.

Ayra remained in the water, staring in shock. She couldn’t believe what might have happened to her if Nyx hadn’t been quick enough to save her.

She couldn’t even imagine it.

Zay was already in the water, swimming close to Ayra to check on her.

"Are you okay, Mama?" he asked worriedly.

Ayra smiled and nodded. "Don’t worry, Mama is okay. You should go back to land..."

"But Mama was almost attacked..." Zay still looked worried.

But Ayra smiled. "Don’t worry. I’m okay."

At that moment, Nyx, who had gone into the water to search for the snake, came out without finding any sign of it.

He swam straight toward the little dragon and picked him up without asking for permission.

"Hey! Let me go! Let me..." Zay struggled and kicked for his freedom, but Nyx didn’t bother listening. He carried him out of the water and placed the little one safely on land.

"Stay here. It’s safer," he casually said to Zay before turning and heading back toward Ayra.

"Hey..." he said to the fox. "Are you going to stay there waiting for the snake to come back for you, or are you going to leave for the land?"

Ayra wanted to leave.

But she didn’t know when she would get another opportunity to complete this task! She couldn’t stay in this form for too long for no reason, so she had to at least find a way to return to her human form.

"Wait..." Ayra said. "I... I think I hurt my foot. I can’t move at all..."

She leaned backward as if she were injured, pretending in the hope that it would work.

"Mama is hurt! Go and help Mama!" Zay insisted firmly, without caring about anything else.

Nyx stared at Ayra for a while before slowly making his way toward her. He was skeptical, especially since he was still naked, with only the water covering his lower body.

He still didn’t know how to approach Ayra in this state.

But he supposed saving her was more important.

So he slowly approached her and stretched out his hand. "You really aren’t going to return to your human state? Why are you still flaunting your beast form in this situation?"

Ayra blinked. She didn’t know how to tell him that it was completely out of her control. She found it rather embarrassing, so she instead said, "Ah... because I hurt myself. I think I can’t transform now..."

Nyx raised an eyebrow. "Huh? How?"

Ayra smiled.

She had found the perfect excuse to get the task done!
