Chapter 195: 195/The Cold Reality of the Basement
Chapter 195
Stephanie’s point of view
He casually raised his massive hand, wrapping his fingers around my wrist to pull my hand away without applying unnecessary pressure or hurting me. He rasped in a freezing, ice-cold baritone: "And why exactly would I take your children away from you, Stephanie?"
I exploded into a violent fit of weeping, my screams cutting through the air as the hot tears completely blinded my vision: "Because you are obsessed with me! Because you love me! Because you are haphazards and burning with jealousy toward your brother Cedric because the twins belong to him!"
His blue eyes instantly locked into a terrifyingly rigid glare, the space between his brows tightening with a sharp hardness. He questioned me in a piercing, direct tone that completely lacked a single shred of human emotion: "And how exactly did you know that I love you, Stephanie?"
I released his collar in pure horror as if I had just touched a burning ember, taking a rapid step back while my limbs systematically turned to stone from the sheer magnitude of the shock.
My entire body shivered as I whispered in absolute bewilderment: "Are you going to deny that you love me?!"
He shook his head in a flat, absolute denial entirely devoid of emotion, delivering cruel words that completely shattered the remaining fragments of my consciousness: "I do not love you, Stephanie... return to your sanity."
The blinding white walls began to spin around me in a frantic, hyper-accelerated distortion... I felt as if my mind were exploding... he was explicitly driving me over the edge... he was truly forcing me into madness! I spun my body around in pure terror, desperately searching for an exit from this living nightmare, and lunged with ragged, breathless strides toward the large wooden door, my heart hammering like a drum against my ribs.
I clamped my fingers around the metal handle and began to shake it with a violent, frantic urgency, throwing my entire weight against it but it didn’t budge a single inch. It was securely, tightly locked with a heavy, solid metal padlock from the outside.
I stared with dilated, wide eyes at the walls with absolute madness; there were no windows, no openings, and no cracks to grant me a single sliver of light or indicate where the hell I was.
I slammed both of my palms with brutal force against the solid wood, producing a roaring echo through the space as I shrieked hysterically, begging out loud: "Open this cursed door!"
His sober, resonant baritone traveled from directly behind my back without a single shred of a tremor: "I cannot open it."
I spun around to face him, my features flushed with rage, my eyes wide with pure terror and a sweeping fury: "Alex! Do not dare anger me... open the door!"
He made a slight gesture with his hand toward the narrow bed, stating in a flat, expressionless tone: "Come sit down so we can talk."
I recoiled from him with terrified steps as if I were facing a predatory beast, screaming at the absolute top of my lungs until my rigid jaw violently shook: "I will never sit with you, you cursed monster! You killed my babies!"
He fired back with that exact same frozen, ice-cold composure, his gray eyes piercing right through my frame without a single movement: "I did not kill your babies, Stephanie... because you are not pregnant."
My trembling hands shot up to the strands of my hair, violently gripping them and pulling upward with a savage force, desperately trying to wake myself up from this madness as I roared in blind rage: "Are you insane?! Are you mentally deranged?!"
He answered with a completely stone face and a flat tone: "No... I am not."
I touched my forehead, which was completely slicked in a thick, freezing rush of cold sweat pouring from my skin. I forced out in desperate urgency, dry-heaves choking my respiratory tract: "Call Keira... I want Keira to come here right now!"
"Keira is at her home," he answered with a flat, clinical brevity.
I shrieked with every single ounce of strength left in my throat, the tears burning my eyes: "Call her right now! I want her to come!"
He anchored his sharp focus onto me, stating with absolute finality: "I cannot."
I advanced toward him with entirely defeated steps, the tears completely blinding my eyes as a deep, crushing brokenness filled every single line of my face. I whispered in total despair: "What is wrong with you? Tell me what is wrong with you?!"
"Nothing," he delivered in a rock-hard, brief rasp, completely averting his face from me.
My hot tears flowed fiercely as my body convulsed in total abandonment. I shouted in a desperate plea, entirely lost: "Why are you acting like this?! What happened, Alex... come on, open the door for me!"
He securely anchored his cruel gray eyes into my tear-stained pupils, stating in a flat, freezing tone: "I will not open this door."
In that exact, catastrophic second, the remaining fragments of my shattered nerves completely snapped, and I entirely lost control over my actions. I began to unleash a continuous, hysterical shriek that echoed violently between the narrow white walls of the room. I lunged toward the small iron bed in a state of blind madness, my hands frantically clamping onto the pillows and sheets, violently ripping them off and hurling them ruthlessly across the floor. I tore at the covers with my trembling fingers in pure terror, fluttering in a lost panic like a slaughtered bird.
I had barely sustained that violent explosion for a few fleeting seconds before I felt Alexander lunging toward me like a massive, dominant shadow. With a lightning-fast, brutal movement that lacked a single shred of mercy, he entirely enclosed my frame within his long arms and his powerful, muscular grip completely freezing my movements. He forcefully pinned both of my arms tight against my chest, entirely disregarding my violent twisting and my ragged, hysterical attempts to break free from his iron trap.
*Click!*
The sharp, harsh sound of a heavy metal key violently turning in the padlock traveled from the outside, and the solid white door slowly pushed open. My pupils dilated in pure, existential dread, and my entire being froze to ice as I watched the cursed maid step inside the room with slow, measured strides. Her features were completely devoid of a single ounce of human pity or empathy... she was the exact same maid who had threatened to expose my secret relationship with Cedric if I didn’t steal a golden key from Alexander! She advanced toward us with an eerie, dominant poise and cold eyes, holding a long, terrifyingly sharp medical needle between her fingers that glistened with pure evil beneath the dim light of the room.
My screams exploded in a terrified, defeated panic, my body violently twisting and arching within the cage of Alex’s massive arms as they pinned me down. I shrieked at the top of my lungs, my tears choking me: "Are you locking me in the basement?! Am I in the basement?!"
The maid didn’t cast a single glance toward my agony or my loud pleas; instead, she advanced with an ice-cold stability until she reached us. With a highly expert, lightning-fast motion, she callously drove the sharp needle deep into the exposed skin of my arm, systematically emptying the heavy sedative fluid directly into my veins.
My entire frame violently shuddered from a catastrophic pain as a sudden, heavy numbness rapidly traveled through my limbs.
A shattered, agonizing scream tore from my throat, gradually dissolving between the white walls of the room. I twisted my head with an immense, heavy effort toward the panting maid, shrieking between my broken dry-heaves: "You bitch! You are the one who demanded the key to the basement... you are the one who commanded me to steal the key from Alexander!"
My tear-blinded eyes shifted in total, absolute destruction and scattered focus toward Alexander’s face as he held me. I began to plead with him in a faint, suffocating, and broken whisper that was rapidly disappearing into the silence: "This... this cursed maid is the one who was inciting me against you... I swear to you, I did absolutely nothing, Alex... I swear to you!"
He lowered his ice-cold blue eyes down toward my deathly pale face, not a single line of his features moving an inch. He delivered in his deep, gravelly baritone with a freezing composure as he tightly secured my limp body within his arms: "Yes, Stephanie... I know."
In that exact, devastating split second, my eyelids began to grow terrifyingly heavy, far beyond my capacity to endure. His stone, wall-like features began to melt away from before my vision in a thick, blurry distortion, while a pitch-black, absolute darkness rapidly expanded in a sudden flash completely swallowing my consciousness and ruthlessly crushing my final screams inside its dark abyss.
