One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1349 - 1346: Integration
Just before Igor and his team took action, the other main character of the whole incident, the Shadow Ghost, also took a short break.
This break was a forced one; it was an appropriate choice at an appropriate time. Over the years, no one had ever pushed him to this extent.
To him, it's a shame, an unacceptable event. But whether or not he accepts it now, he has to, because his current body wouldn't allow him to continue to fight to the death with those people.
It seemed like everything there was mistaken and everything had a different experience.
This was an experience he didn't want, but he couldn't figure out where exactly the mistake occurred.
This current body had become very weak, which he found quite amusing, after all, the former owner of this body had boasted to him. He remembered well how arrogant this guy named Kuyi Tulan was when he spoke.
But now? This guy has completely collapsed, no different from a meltdown.
In this world, there are originally many who don't recognize their own condition, many who overestimate their own strength. They never notice others' forbearance, nor are they aware of others' patience. They only see the facade before them, just like this wandering Spirit now.
In this short break, the humiliation he suffered was slowly expanding, and this expansion made him very uncomfortable.
In principle, his experiences shouldn't be influenced by his emotions regularly. However, ultimately, he wasn't human; his emotions differed greatly from others. Although he had lived many years, in terms of controlling his emotions, he was still a child. In the past, his other half, the original consciousness of his body, would share the burden, but now everything he faced was new. Kuyi Tulan would never help him share the emotional fluctuations.
"Ambition higher than the heavens, life thinner than paper. These words are addressed to you." The Shadow Ghost said slowly, filled with sarcasm towards Kuyi Tulan.
Kuyi Tulan's body was severely injured, covered in scars, with no part of him unscathed. His appearance now could be described as very miserable, completely bloodstained, making it hard to distinguish his facial features, covered entirely by congealed blood, which was both his and others'.
In the face of this ridicule from the Shadow Ghost, Kuyi Tulan did not offer much rebuttal because he knew it wasn't the time to unleash his Fighting Aura.
Although he thought of replacing the Shadow Ghost, currently he didn't have the strength yet. He had to endure for now, so regardless of what the Shadow Ghost said, he wouldn't retort.
The Shadow Ghost retreated to a secluded place, a Boundary Zone, the realm of the teleportation portals between two worlds, where plenty of energy could be utilized.
He wasn't too worried about the physical injuries. He was a wandering Spirit possessing the memories of many. Over the years, he had devoured so many spirits that he had incorporated all their skills into his body. From the very beginning, the skills on him were no longer just his.
He was familiar with all major professions. He knew the characteristics of each occupation clearly, and he mastered the enviable skills of each profession proficiently…
The Shadow Ghost, while mocking Kuyi Tulan, used his Wizard skills to heal the chief of the Alchemy Workshop. The Spirit Power's healing made Kuyi Tulan's numerous wounds suddenly start to mend, so quickly that it was astounding.
"You will never be able to achieve this, even though your ambition is that great and your words that arrogant, yet you still cannot accomplish what I am doing now."
"This is the limitation; people like you can only grasp that level of power and cannot command higher powers. I mentioned this before, but your pride always makes you feel superior."
"Now, you should know what the real gap is, right?"
The Spirit's ridicule suddenly turned into a kind of nagging, as if he still valued Kuyi Tulan considerably.
Kuyi Tulan also understood that there was mutual dependence between him and the Shadow Ghost. Temporarily, neither could do without the other. The Shadow Ghost could not lose his body, and he could not lose the Shadow Ghost's strength. That is the reality.
Having seen reality clearly, Kuyi Tulan changed his strategy.
Suddenly, he felt that things weren't as he imagined; conquest wasn't solely dependent on force. There are other ways as well.
Now Kuyi Tulan felt the key was to heal his injuries, otherwise, he couldn't move freely.
However, Kuyi Tulan did not expect his injuries to heal so quickly. This healing speed was somewhat beyond common reason; even the broken bones in his body had regrown. It was truly a surprising thing.
"What on earth is going on?" The newly aware Kuyi Tulan had put away his earlier aggressiveness; he no longer had that overbearing attitude as before.
"This is power, the power you worship. As long as it's properly used, you can quickly recover to your former self; these injuries are really nothing!" The Shadow Ghost had also changed his attitude toward Kuyi Tulan, and this transformation was mutual.
For by that moment, they both realized that neither could do without the other.
The battle brought these two once conflicting individuals gradually together; it was an inevitable process. Such divergences disappear automatically when danger arises, but they will return at an appropriate time.
This is something very easy to comprehend, not something everyone can understand.
"Don't be amazed, because this is just the tip of the iceberg," the Shadow Ghost continued.
"If it's the tip of the iceberg, why did you lose your advantage in the earlier battle and retreat?" Kuyi Tulan actually knew what was going on, but he still wanted to ask because he wasn't satisfied with the previous battle; he felt they shouldn't have been defeated...
"If we hadn't retreated, you and I would have both disappeared. We have just undergone integration, and some issues need resolving, which is why our power couldn't fully unfold."
Kuyi Tulan remained silent; he understood these things, but he still wasn't content.
"Integration takes time. You and I need time to understand each other. If we continue as before, it will only prove counterproductive." The Shadow Ghost also dropped his pretension.
Kuyi Tulan continued to remain silent, knowing that anything he said was useless. Both he and the Shadow Ghost now had to compromise.
"After integration, you are the Shadow Ghost, as well as Kuyi Tulan. We should be one," the Shadow Ghost said calmly, his compromise evident.
Kuyi Tulan looked at his rapidly healing wounds and closed his eyes. Integration was indeed an urgent matter.
