"If you’re sick, you should rest well. It’s the natural order of things." Su Yuqing moved behind Chen Mo and began rubbing his temples, saying with a smile, "Even the strongest people can afford to be a little pampered when they’re sick."

"You need someone to pamper you to be pampered," Chen Mo sighed.

Su Yuqing’s fingers paused for a moment, then a slight smile appeared on her face as she continued her work.

Suddenly, as if remembering something, Chen Mo caught Su Yuqing’s small hand. "I almost forgot to tell you something. Come sit back down."

Su Yuqing gave Chen Mo a surprised look. ’What could he possibly have to talk about this late at night?’

She sat back down on the sofa, her curiosity piqued.

Chen Mo then took her small hand, pulled a thousand yuan from his pocket, and placed it in her palm.

"What’s this for?" Su Yuqing didn’t understand.

"I ran into your mom at the hospital. She said you left in a hurry and she forgot to give you spending money. She asked me to give you this thousand yuan and told you to spend it without worry."

Chen Mo said, patting the money in Su Yuqing’s hand.

"Mom?"

Su Yuqing stared at the money, dazed for a moment.

Then, Chen Mo watched as she slowly clenched her hand around the money and put it in her pocket.

"You said you saw my mom at the hospital. Is she okay?" Su Yuqing suddenly seemed to realize something and asked nervously.

"No, she’s fine. It looked like she was there to pick up your father from the hospital."

Although Chen Mo knew about Li Gang’s injury, Su Yuqing hadn’t mentioned it herself, so Chen Mo naturally pretended not to know.

He just needed to gently guide the conversation, and Su Yuqing would understand what was happening.

And just as he expected, as soon as Chen Mo said this, Su Yuqing understood.

"How are my mom’s spirits now?" she asked, suddenly changing the subject.

"Her complexion looked much better than before, so I imagine her spirits are pretty good," Chen Mo said with a smile.

"Then it seems I did the right thing by moving out." Su Yuqing was also well aware of the effect her presence had on her mother’s mental state.

Seeing the somewhat bleak look on her face, Chen Mo reached out and held her small hand. "It’s okay. All bad things eventually pass, and the sky will clear after the rain. Just like your name."

Su Yuqing’s beautiful eyes shimmered as she looked at Chen Mo and nodded lightly.

"Alright, it’s getting late, time for bed. You only napped at the desk earlier, so you probably didn’t get much rest. Go on and get some sleep." Chen Mo coaxed the slightly haggard-looking Su Yuqing back to her bedroom.

After taking his own medicine, he also fell straight into bed and went to sleep.

Although he had slept a lot on and off during the day, being sick meant he hadn’t really regained much energy. Now, after taking the medicine, he was even drowsier.

Before long, Chen Mo drifted off into dreamland.

The next day, when Chen Mo woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.

He was feeling a bit better today than yesterday.

But only a little.

The first thing he did upon waking was grab his phone to take a look.

He saw that it was already past nine in the morning.

He threw off the covers, jumped out of bed, and opened his bedroom door.

He saw a note on the dining table.

[Chen Mo, you were still asleep, so I didn’t want to disturb you. I’m heading to school. I made some porridge this morning, it’s in the rice cooker, and there are some side dishes in the food warmer. Remember to eat.]

Chen Mo looked at the note, written in Su Yuqing’s elegant handwriting.

His heart skipped a beat.

Su Yuqing had gone out by herself. He quickly opened his phone and found Blade’s contact.

He wanted to ask if Blade had followed her to school to protect her.

But instead, he saw that Blade had also left a message for him.

[Uncle Blade]: I’ve checked the surveillance footage from that residence. It only keeps seven days of recordings, so last Friday night’s footage is already gone. If we want to track this person, we’ll have to trace their route further back and find a camera with a longer retention period. I’ll contact some friends and help you look into it.

After reading Blade’s message, Chen Mo’s heart sank.

’Looks like this matter isn’t so simple after all.’

But seeing the content of Blade’s message, Chen Mo was still very moved.

He could have refused to do these things, but not only did he agree, he was even prepared to investigate it to the very end.

[Chen Mo]: Thank you, Uncle Blade. I’ll have to trouble you with this, then.

[Uncle Blade]: Don’t mention it. Your business is your parents’ business. And I would die to complete their business.

Looking at the man’s words, Chen Mo felt that this kind of person was someone you’d only see in a TV drama.

It was rare to find someone in the world who took a life-saving debt so seriously.

Most people, when saved, are just grateful for a short time.

At best, they might try to help you out a bit, and then that would be that.

But not Blade. Blade was going all out to repay his debt of gratitude.

By accepting this commission from Chen Mo’s parents, he would have to watch over Chen Mo in secret for at least this entire year.

Only someone like Chen Mo, who had been a criminal police officer and had done long-term stakeouts, could understand the sheer boredom involved.

This wasn’t a job where you could just scroll through your phone when you were bored, because you could never predict when something unusual might happen.

You had to be watching intently, every single moment.

Your range of movement was also strictly limited.

It was a truly torturous situation.

Staking someone out for a day or two was manageable.

But doing it for a whole year... most people would find it unbearable.

Not only was Blade capable of doing this, but he was also doing his utmost to help with the additional tasks Chen Mo had requested, which was truly remarkable.

After discussing the surveillance footage, Chen Mo immediately switched the topic to Su Yuqing.

[Chen Mo]: Uncle Blade, the girl staying at my place left by herself this morning. Did you see her get to school?

[Uncle Blade]: Don’t worry. You gave me a heads-up last night. I saw her leave alone this morning and followed her secretly to the school. She got inside the campus safely, no problems.

[Chen Mo]: That’s a relief.

’Having Blade around is really reassuring.’

Chen Mo couldn’t help but marvel at how well his parents had arranged things for him.

The person they found was so reliable.

After confirming that Su Yuqing was safe for the time being, Chen Mo quickly took out the breakfast she had made and started to eat.

Although it had been in the food warmer, it had been over two hours since Su Yuqing made it, so the food had cooled down a bit.

But it still tasted quite good.

After blissfully enjoying his breakfast, he went back to the living room to watch some TV and let his food digest for a while, then took his medicine again.

The doctor had said he needed to get an IV drip again today, but he decided to go to the hospital in the evening so he could look after Su Yuqing during the day.

When it was almost time for school to let out for lunch, Chen Mo went straight to the school gate.

He wanted to be there to pick Su Yuqing up the moment school was out.
