Official Career Storm
Chapter 1859
Chapter 1859: Chapter 1859
"Brother Song, am I disturbing your rest?"
In the middle of the night, Song Guanchao was dreaming when Jiang Wangshan’s phone call woke him up.
He sat up from his bed, rubbed his face, regained some energy, and said, "What’s up?"
Jiang Wangshan could tell from his voice that he had woken him up and laughed, "We’ve caught him and interrogated him. But the situation might be different from what you thought."
Upon hearing this, Song Guanchao immediately became alert: "What did he say?"
Jiang Wangshan said, "This reporter received a tip-off call, learned that Fengliang Company’s rice was added with fragrance, went to investigate undercover, and indeed found that fragrance was added."
"No one instigated him?"
"No."
"Alright, I got it. I’ll go over and ask tomorrow."
He didn’t question whether Jiang Wangshan’s interrogation was thorough enough; the man is a cop, and especially considering how seriously he took the matter, working overtime for the interrogation late at night.
Asking such questions would be doubting their professionalism.
Song Guanchao sat on the bed for a while, relieved himself, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, he took Zhou Xingjian straight to Fengliang Company.
"Li Zhengyi has already been arrested," Song Guanchao said.
President Huang widened his eyes, gaping in amazement; the efficiency was too high!
"Thank you, Director Song!"
"Don’t rush to thank me," Song Guanchao stared into his eyes and said sternly, "I’m asking you, did your company actually add fragrance or not?"
"Absolutely not!"
"Li Zhengyi mentioned that he went to investigate upon receiving a tip-off call, which implies no one was behind it."
Song Guanchao said, "One side claims a tip-off call led the investigation, and your side says no fragrance was added. Clearly, one of you is lying."
President Huang also realized the issue at hand but felt explaining wouldn’t help as the facts stood stark.
"Let the Health Bureau investigate," Song Guanchao suggested while observing his reaction.
President Huang wasn’t panicked; instead, he seemed relieved: "Okay."
Song Guanchao wasn’t just saying it; he really contacted the Health Bureau.
After the call, while waiting, Song Guanchao remarked, "If your company has no issues, and Li Zhengyi did find fragrance, then the problem lies within your staff internally."
It’s not rocket science; with a handful of possible scenarios, going through each would reveal the truth.
President Huang had also narrowed it down, his face grim and silent.
Those capable of tampering with the production line were internal members from a single department.
He already had a good guess as to who it might be.
"Director Song, let’s call the police," President Huang suddenly said. "Let the police come and we’ll pull the surveillance footage."
Song Guanchao asked, "Got any guesses?"
"Yes."
"Alright, then call the police."
As long as it’s not a company issue.
He didn’t bother Liang Jianfeng but called Director Ma instead.
Director Ma received the call and personally came over with his team.
He arrived shortly after the Health Bureau, and after Song Guanchao chatted briefly with the Director of the Health Bureau, President Huang arranged for someone to accompany them for sampling and inspection.
While Song Guanchao and a few others accompanied Director Ma to retrieve surveillance in the monitoring room.
Meanwhile, in Beijing.
Chen Bolli received a call from Jiang Wangshan in the morning, learning that the person had been arrested and that Li Zhengyi extorted Fengliang Company for a million under the guise of anti-counterfeiting.
"Xiao Yan, prepare the car, we’re going to CCTV," Chen Bolli picked up his phone and left.
At 11 AM, Chen Bolli arrived at the Central Business District located on East Third Ring Road; the CCTV headquarters building is here.
Chen Bolli didn’t contact the director of the 315 program beforehand, and directly went to the floor where the program’s office was located.
"This is a workspace, you can’t enter," a staff member, seeing both Chen Bolli and his secretary unfamiliar, stopped him.
Xiao Yan said, "This is Mayor Chen."
The staff member was mildly surprised, Xiao Yan continued, "Mayor Chen is here to see Director Yu."
"Director Yu is busy, you...Mayor Chen, please wait a moment."
The staff member was just shocked at the identity, not overly deferential or terrified.
This is CCTV, where leaders are abundant.
As media workers, they’ve interacted with countless leaders, some with higher ranks than Chen Bolli.
There’s no groveling and panicking like those who’ve never been exposed to such grandeur and rush to ingratiate when seeing a Mayor.
...
Yu Jing is the general director of this year’s 315 Gala, previously working behind the scenes planning scripts and programs.
He occasionally took on roles as assistant director, quite familiar with the role.
Moreover, his upright character made him ideal for directing anti-counterfeiting programs; after all, he feared no one.
Since the program planning at the beginning of the year, leaders have occasionally extended invites for meals, all rejected by him.
Yu Jing felt he should have taken charge of this program long ago; across CCTV, no one suited the anti-counterfeiting program better than him.
Thinking about those unscrupulous merchants spending money to have leaders plead on their behalf only to face his rejection fueled an unspoken sense of pleasure in Yu Jing.
Some people seek pleasure in romantic pursuits, others find it in different ways; Yu Jing was certainly unique.
Rejecting the powerful, watching them falter, was his source of joy.
Knock knock.
"Come in." Yu Jing, with a cigarette in his mouth, reviewing the list of names set to appear on the program two days later, didn’t look up.
The staff member opened the door softly and barely stepped inside, speaking even softer than footsteps, "Director Yu, Mayor Chen is here to see you."
"Which Mayor Chen?"
"Our city’s Mayor Chen."
"Not seeing him."
"Uh...Mayor Chen is already here."
"Even if he’s here, not seeing him. Tell him I’m busy, very busy, no time."
The staff member hesitated to speak but feared being reprimanded by Director Yu, reluctantly muttered a sound, and silently left the office.
He approached Chen Bolli, saying, "Director Yu is a bit busy, Mayor Chen, perhaps you should schedule an appointment with Director Yu next time?"
Chen Bolli didn’t get angry and said, "Please tell Director Yu that your program’s reporter extorted local businesses under the guise of anti-counterfeiting. If he doesn’t want to meet, then so be it."
"Mayor Chen, please wait!" The staff member was frightened and hurried back.
He even forgot to knock this time and pushed the door open abruptly.
The sudden noise clearly displeased Yu Jing.
With a stern face, he looked up: "What’s the matter?"
"Director Yu, Mayor Chen..."
"Didn’t I say I’m busy? Didn’t you understand, or didn’t he understand?"
"Director Yu, let me finish, Mayor Chen mentioned your program’s reporter extorted local enterprises under the guise of anti-counterfeiting."
"Hmm?" Yu Jing’s left eyebrow twitched, he put down the document and said, "Invite him in."
Regardless of the truth in Chen Bolli’s words, he wanted to meet.
After all, if it’s true?
This was his first time overseeing such a nationwide program, especially one with high popularity; he wouldn’t risk messing it up.
