A few moments later, Long Chen saw a small tribe somewhere in the distant mountain range. The buildings there were very primitive, and some of them had just collapsed due to Long Chen’s raging aura.

Amongst the wreckage were a group of humanoid warriors. They wore animal furs, and were holding bone spears and clubs. They looked ready for a fight, and to Long Chen’s surprise, they emitted the aura of the outsider Dao. In other words, they did not belong to the nine heavens.

He had never expected to suddenly enter a territory of the outsider devils, let alone accidentally interrupt one of their internal struggles. But the truly strange thing was that these cavemen-looking humanoids didn’t give him a sense of disgust, despite clearly possessing the aura of outsiders.

Meanwhile, those humanoids were also looking at Long Chen in shock.

“Human! Who are you?! Why are you interfering in our affairs?!” shouted an outsider devil elder behind Long Chen.

Long Chen clasped his hands behind him and looked at these lifeforms calling themselves Earth Barbarians. He calmly asked, “I am from the nine heavens, and you are invaders. How do you know that I won’t just kill you next?”

The elder remained on one knee as he said, “Our ancestors invaded the nine heavens. It was a terrible sin that cannot be erased. Even if you kill us, we understand that a blood debt must be paid with blood. At the very least, someone like you wouldn’t torture us before killing us. Those people would have made us suffer a life worse than death. We were already prepared to fight to the last. We would have rather all died fighting than be their slaves!”

Long Chen looked over the crowd. There really were even children holding clubs, as well as women with babies strapped to their backs and weapons in their hands. He saw no fear in their eyes. Despite all his experiences, this sight still moved him. He didn’t say anything, but just as he turned to leave, that elder spoke up once more.

“Friend, our ancestors once killed your people. Do you not wish to take revenge on their behalf?”

Long Chen was startled. He turned back slowly. Did this old man have a death wish?

“What are you trying to say?”

The elder took a deep breath. “Our ancestors were forced to join the invading army. After the primal chaos war, the sins they had committed weighed on them like a mountain, and even now, whenever we think of these foul deeds, we feel as if we are swarmed by fire ants. Our ancestors’ only wish was for us, their descendants, to do whatever it takes to compensate for those sins. Even if you killed all of us, we would die with no regrets!”

Long Chen looked at him, and then at the so-called Earth Barbarians, who were trembling under the pressure of his aura. He was well aware that they could not even muster the courage to lie in front of him, and their faces showed nothing but the utmost sincerity.

Concealing his emotions, he coldly said, “This is an immense blood debt, and it was set between our ancestors. I am only one of their descendants. I cannot forgive this debt.”

It seemed that the ancestors of these people had placed great hopes on their descendants. But this kind of hope was more like a curse than a blessing. If they could not achieve this aspiration, then their entire race would forever be constrained by this curse.

Although these people’s courage was admirable, it did not change the fact that their race had once slaughtered the people of the nine heavens. Whether they did it willingly or not, facts were facts, and Long Chen was no saint. This sincerity would not push him to forgive them, not to mention that he was not qualified to forgive them on behalf of the nine heavens.

“Friend, if you are willing, we can become your loyal servants! We will be the vanguard against the outsider devils! We will be loyal to you until death!” swore the elder.

This bout of pain lasted for an incense stick’s worth of time; when they got back up, they were all pale and panting.

The elder took a deep breath and said, “Hero of the human race, if you really hate us, you can let us be cursed like this for every generation until we all inevitably perish. But if you feel like we can still do something for the human race to make up for the sins of our ancestors, then please accept us. We will fight for you to the last man, woman, and child!”

The elder got on both knees and kowtowed, and the other Earth Barbarians followed suit to kowtow to Long Chen.
