Chapter 524: Website

The scenery shifted, and their foot found solid ground. When they opened their eyes, they were back inside the elevator. With the Ding, the door opened. They were no longer at the hospital but at the office. Jiang Cheng remembered that once they turned the corner, they’d reach Nan Huaili’s office. They had returned.

Kui Yi turned around to reveal a sad smile. “I didn’t think we’d survive.”

Jiang Cheng’s attention was pulled to Lin Wan ‘Er’s wrist. There were two obvious holes. As she moved her arm, blood leaked out. Her wound didn’t disappear.

He reached into his pocket to take out his phone. He had many unanswered calls and messages. The phone showed that it had been three days since they entered the strange hospital. They didn’t enter it through a dream. The wounds they received didn’t heal, and the time didn’t reset. Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes. The rules of the nightmare changed. They became more akin to the real world. Jiang Cheng sensed that when he encountered the ghost-driven taxi, a power was slowly eroding the line between the nightmare and the real world. The appearance of the ghost hospital verified that.

The middle-aged man clearly knew more than Kui Yi, but Jiang Cheng would have a hard time getting information from him. After all, he was a brother to Kui Yi.

After Lin Wan ‘Er left, Jiang Cheng curled his arm around Kui Yi’s shoulders. “Brother Kui Yi, you don’t mind inviting me to your home, right?”

“Of course not.” They got into Kui Yi’s car and arrived at a neighbourhood. The neighbourhood’s amenities looked old.

“You live here?!” Jiang Cheng exited the car. Kui Yi didn’t look like he lacked money. He drove a nice car. Jiang Cheng thought he’d be welcomed by a seaside villa and girls in bikinis.

Kui Yi parked the car. “This is my parents’ place. After they moved away, I live here alone.”

Jiang Cheng was annoyed. “What about the seaside villa and the girls you mentioned? Did you lie to me?”

“Of course not!” Kui Yi widened his eyes. “However, I don’t live there normally. I go there occasionally.” Then, he whispered, “As you know, people in our line of business have many enemies. It’s better to keep a low profile. No one would have guessed I’d be hiding in the middle of the city.” Kui Yi chuckled. “Every time I come back, I’d change inside the car. Even my parents wouldn’t be able to recognise him.”

Jiang Cheng looked at Kui Yi in his sunglasses and cap. He thought the man was crazy. He drove a black BMW and dressed so strangely in an old neighbourhood… Jiang Cheng suspected the man had no enemy, so no one had sought him out yet. How could the man who appeared so clever in the nightmare become so dumb in real life?

Kui Yi scratched his head awkwardly. “Actually, it’s not that scary. After all, the guild manages everything. Normally, everyone follows the rules. We are not crazy… elites like Deep Red who are self-efficient.” Kui Yi quickly corrected himself.

“Don’t be nervous.” Jiang Cheng shrugged. “Speak your mind. Deep Red is not unreasonable.”

“Really?” Kui Yi was anxious.

“That’s right. Dealing with uncooperative people, we’ll at most tie you up and mail you home.” Jiang Cheng looked at Kui Yi with kind eyes. “In separate mails. We’ll start with your limbs and finally your torso. The head is an individual package. We even have a tutorial video on it.” Jiang Cheng introduced patiently. “When your family receives all the packages, the funeral can be conducted.”

Kui Yi’s legs wobbled, and he almost fell. “Brother Jiang, let’s change the subject. Please come in!” Kui Yi’s home was in the last third building. It was very old. It had an ink-green door. The buttons had fallen. The place had no elevator. It had six floors. Kui Yi’s home was on the sixth floor, Unit 602. He explained that everyone else on his floor had moved away.

Kui Yi’s place was not big. It looked like a rental. There were many empty beer cans. However, there were no cigarettes.

“I don’t smoke.” Kui Yi invited Jiang Cheng to sit. “I enjoy some beers here and there. However, my alcohol tolerance is bad.”

Jiang Cheng looked around. There was nothing valuable. Kui Yi’s life was simple, other than the laptop on his bedroom table. The laptop looked expensive. It didn’t fit the environment.

Kui Yi noticed this and added, “We normally accept cases through the guild website. The general is a general term. It is actually a website where people can announce cases to be taken. Of course, the cases are all related to those things.”

Jiang Cheng nodded.

“The website welcomes all kinds of people. They are people like us, but also people with deep backgrounds. Everyone’s goal is to deal with those mysterious cases. The website is just a platform.” Kui Yi lowered his voice. “The real terror is the force controlling the website. It is connected to them.”

“The government,” Jiang Cheng uttered. This was obvious. It was impossible for the government not to get involved. Without its permission, such a guild wouldn’t exist. After all, door-holders were still humans.

“Did you accept the latest case from this website?” Jiang Cheng asked.

“Yes.”

Jiang Cheng thought about it. “Show me the information about the case. I want to see.”

Soon, the files appeared on the computer screen.

“Code: Chuang Rong Building Ghost Face Incident.

“Supernatural Event Level: Level C

“Threat Level: 2 stars.”
